But didn't you say this

Yes I said I'm not sure we can win the premiership with Perrie and McGregor as the key forwards. But that doesn't mean getting rid of McGregor will help the cause. We've got to improve by putting better players in the forward line, along side them, not by getting rid of one of our best talls and hoping that that magically somehow makes us a better team.

Where is he going to play if we cannot go far with him as a forward

This is where you are misreading what I've said to suit your crazy agenda. I never said we can't win with McGregor playing up forward. We've come a fair way with him doing just that. I suggested we need more than just McGregor (and Perrie) to help go the extra step.

So where does he play? Ruck or midfield ?

Forward or back. He's proven himself at both ends.

KR's recipe for success:

I suggest we handcuff Stevo to the weights machine, whilst subsequently legcuffing him to the treadmill. This way, he will not be knocked out of position, and will be also able to hunt down anybody. I still (only recently stumbled upon this, after Round 8 or so) see a tremendous future for Scotty, one which could see him play a couple of hundred games for the club. Next year I want another 7 kgs of muscle on him, a bit of improvement in his skills, and he'll go a long way. This allows Bock to permanently go forward. He can go back if ever needed, but we need to have him up the front whilst Henny is out.

"dominant CHB" since when was Bock ever a "dominant" CHB. he played a few enourcaging games down back but the way some people talk it's as though he was pushing AA selection. If we are to be a chance in 2007, Bock must play forward.
IIRC, he was in the running for the All Australian team last year??

Stevens has been in the system for years and despite best efforts from both Adelaide and Sydney to get him to put on weight, that plan has failed. Paul Roos even said the only reason he traded Stevens was because he couldn't put on weight to hold down KP.

Stevens' body shape just doesn't allow him to put on muscle. Very similar to Ryan Fitzgerald and Daniel Schell. All of them can spend as much time in the gym as they like but they will not turn into these robust KPP that people hope for.

I don’t subscribe to the theory that a player should be kept around a football club simply for insurance purposes. If he is not good enough to be a first picked player at the Adelaide Football Club we may as well try and trade him to a club that can use him and we can also get some benefit out of it, if we keep him around and he play the season in the SANFL he become a useless commodity.

If he stays at the AFC he must be moved back to CHB and Bock is played as our primary key forward.

You idiot. Based on your logic (dare I call it that) we'd only have 22 players on our list. After all, if they're not good enough to be a first picked player we may as well try and trade him (your words - not mine).

Ken McGregor is extremely valuable to our club and we made a massive selection error in not playing him on Saturday.

Do you understand the principals of TRADING? You have to give something of worth wide value to receive something worth wide in return. We are not going to trade someone like Hayden Skipworth and get a first round pick in return just like we will not trade Andrew Mcleod and accept a 4th round pick.

To gain a first round pick you have to give something of comparison value, Ken McGregor is of comparison value to a mid range first round pick.

Ken McGregor doesn’t fit into my desired forward line structure but he would fit into a Brisbane or Western Bulldogs forward line. My first preference would be to play Nathan Bock at CHF and Scott Stevens at CHB we are not going to gain a first round pick for Scott Steven or Ian Perrie so trading them is not going to be ****ing worth it for us. Scott Stevens and Ian Perrie would be worth more to us than trading them for a 4th round pick.

He is a valuable player and his trade commodity would gain a good return if offered for trade.

And that the key. He doesn't fit into YOUR structure but luckily for us he fits into Craig's structure.

Going by some of the rubbish posted here in the last 48 hours half our side is not good enough and should be traded. One could be forgiven for thinking were are wooden spooners not a side that was a kick away from playing in a GF

Exactly and isn’t that what Internet forums are all about.

Uneducated (football wise) and irrationally making sense of a situation simply to give us an outlet to vent frustration.

But tell me this – at this present moment what is the difference between us and Carlton? Round 1 next year we are both going to be on zero wins and zero losses. So being 1 point away from a grand final appearance mean zilch

The big difference between us and Carlton is that we have a much better list and will be in the finals again (all things being equal) while Carlton is so far off its not even funny.

I know which situation I would rather be in and guess what, all the players that get bagged here regularly would be walk up starts into the Carlton side.

Can you guarantee that?

Get Stevens in the gym, even if he struggles to put on muscle, get him in there working his guts out anyway.

Kenny at CHB with Bass, Rutten & Stevens around him will do the job.

Bocky at CHF.

Our backline is good enough and has enough run without playing Bocky down there, but our forward isn't good enough to allow us to have Perrie at CHF.

Could do with 2 of Bocky couldn't we.

His little brother Tyson is playing 19's for the Eagles...injured for alot of the season (played a Ressies game early in the year but got injured)... very much like Nathan....probably abit bigger in the body than Nathan was at that age. Worth a look maybe?

Personally I like Nathan as a forward after his games this year especially with Trent out for the season. Impressive come back from a serious injury this year.

Looked great up foward, maybe he is our answer to CHF position? Sure hope so.

The guy isn't exactly old or that experienced

having a look at his games this year they are rather impressive stats

hopefully (and I say hopefully) he can only get better :thumbsu:

Which I think is why we should be trading pretty solidly this October. We have a number of players that are AFL quality but won't be of much use to us next year. We should be trying to get some draft picks or players for these guys.

If we offered McGregor (or Perrie) at trade week what's the best we could realistically hope for given his age and output?

A 2nd rounder, possibly a 3rd rounder? Or, maybe a like for like player in the mould of the Downsborough/Chalmers trade?

So you'd be willing to give up a player who while not necessarily a bonafide member of our first eighteen at the moment, is a proven player with the body and experience required to play whenever he's called upon - for a shot in the dark at pick #30-50, who won't be ready to play CHF/CHB in the manner Kenny or Ian does for at least 12-24 months, if at all? (See Ashley Fernee, Fergus Watts, Chad Gibson, Ben Finnin).

That's the benefit KMac and Ian Perrie bring to the table.

We can use them when we need them now, and although they do suffer some shockers when match-fitness and/or confidence is low, they are both well and truly capable of solid performances.

Well, if you believe this article in today's Ragvertiser there are a couple of teams supposedly interested in gaining the services if KMac. Richmond and Geelong are specifically named.

Given that Richmond have topped up already and are looking for a mature body to work with the kids, their first draft selection may be on the table? They're certainly not in the same situation as Carlton, Essendon and North.

I wonder if we did snag Richmond or Geelongs DP, whether we could trade it and pick 14 to Carlton or Essendon for pick 1 or 2.

I wouldn't call myself anit- Kenny, he should've played ahead of Sarge easily last weekend, but not many players are untouchable if the right offer comes along.

Yeah and there is more chance of me winning X lotto than of that offer coming along.

People should start dealing with reality rather than fantasy ;)

Ken McGregor will NOT be traded. Its just wishful thinking from the anti-Kenny posters of this board.

Suggesting Kenny could be a worthwhile trade does not make one anti-Kenny, it just means he is not untouchable. In a way it is a backhanded compliment, because it recognises that he does have plenty of value. You have to trade with quality to get quality...its just that different clubs may see different qualities in different players (what i would be hoping in a Kenny trade) or need players of similar quality who play in different positions.

This is different to some (i really cannot recall who) who scream out wanting to acquire a top-line forward in the off-season but then throw up names like Jericho and Skipworth for trades to get that standard of player. Other clubs are not that stupid!

Anyway, it's all theoretical. Kenny, and probably no other top 22 player, will be traded. We do have a very good team that does not need wholesale changes, so all is not lost. If our midfield improves, our forward line will probably be adequate.

Personally, I have been quite impressed by his form in the forward line since returning. Given how much we *still* need a tall forward with good hands, Bock should be playing there, even though he's not the most talented footballer going around.

I agree that his kicking for goal does need work. I cringe nearly everytime he is about to kick.
