I don’t subscribe to the theory that a player should be kept around a football club simply for insurance purposes. If he is not good enough to be a first picked player at the Adelaide Football Club we may as well try and trade him to a club that can use him and we can also get some benefit out of it, if we keep him around and he play the season in the SANFL he become a useless commodity.

If he stays at the AFC he must be moved back to CHB and Bock is played as our primary key forward.

One of the main strengths we have is the depth of our list, this means a balance between high quality first team players, fringe players who will provide good backup and quality youngsters being developed. Without all three you cannot win flags.

It's not about having insurance, if a player like McGregor plays a whole season in the SANFL it means that we had a great year with few injuries. It also means that we have good competition for spots in the team.

Where would we have been this year if we didn't have cover in the early part of the season for Bock and the later part for Sarge, Hentschel, Roo etc. We certainly wouldn't have been playing off in the 2nd last weekend of the season.

Well, if you believe this article in today's Ragvertiser there are a couple of teams supposedly interested in gaining the services if KMac. Richmond and Geelong are specifically named.

Given that Richmond have topped up already and are looking for a mature body to work with the kids, their first draft selection may be on the table? They're certainly not in the same situation as Carlton, Essendon and North.

Fanciful thinking....McGregor won't be traded.....hell we don't have any KPP as it is.

I would however trade McGregor for Shultz....but I sincerley doubt Richmond would entertain that ......and that's why so few trades will be done....clubs only want to trade if they win on the deal NOT break even.

Personally, I have been quite impressed by his form in the forward line since returning. Given how much we *still* need a tall forward with good hands, Bock should be playing there, even though he's not the most talented footballer going around.

I agree that his kicking for goal does need work. I cringe nearly everytime he is about to kick.

You must have missed the finals series Bock was as good as anything I've seen from AFC at CHF besides Hentschel. He took strong grabs and kicked some good goals.

Don't disagree...had a very good finals...just wishing his prelim field kicking was a touch better.

But IMO the way he moves he appears to be better suited to running in a straight line than turning to goal as a forward.

I know someone said he had a good turning circle but I have my doubts .....he has been caught a few times on the turn

I just think he's worth keeping at CHF until Hentschel comes back, I don't disagree that he's probably our best CHB as well but Stevens has done a good job in that position and it's probably worth persevering with Bock at CHF.

So who would be your option at CHF then? Who was the best performing tall forward in the final series in your eyes?

To me he seems the best option we have. Has a strong body and doesn't get pushed around. Seems to be able to pull a bit of magic out around goals. Most importantly seems to me he holds more grabs than any of our other talls. If you mark it in the fifty you dont need a fantastic turning circle (not saying I agree or disagree on this point) If he drops it the crumbers around him will have the good turning circle.

He needs to improve his distance kicking abilities but I really think he shows signs of being a genuine CHF if we persist with him.

May I ask why you rate Schulz so highly? He’s really only had 1 good game in his career, when he kicked 6 goals against the Lions at the Gabba. Ever since then he’s been talked about pretty highly, especially by you, but he’s never delivered on the hype. He’s suffered quite a few injuries already, and has been in and out of the Tigers side up until last this year where he finally strung a few games together. He’ll probably be a decent player, but I don’t see him becoming anything too special.

No arguments but if you watch his last half dozen games for the Tigers this year he really started to look very very good.

Appears to be gaining some self confidence and IMO still has more improvement left in him......07 could be his defining year.

WW, some of the inconsistencies in your pronouncements really confuse sometimes.

On the one hand, you've repeatedly denounced and are ready to trade Ken McGregor - a proven, solid KPP who can play either end - for what amounts to a half-eaten pie in Jay Schulz (or rather, one that is incredibly undercooked); but on the other hand, you scald anyone who suggests that Luke Jericho - pound for pound the least valuable commodity on our list in terms of ability and potential - should be delisted?

Bock will be a good dreamteam pickup next season if he stays forward! Averaging 82 points a game this year. Up from 50 last year. Should improve with an uninterupted preseason too.
To be honest I'd be tempted to leave him there if it were my decision. I was calling for him to replace Steveo at CHB only a few weeks ago, but bloody hell he's looked impressive in our last few games. Kicked a couple of ripsnorters from tight angles. Would have been the only forward we had that stood up in the pressure of both finals. I don't know how justified this turning circle argument is either. Watch through his last few games and you'll see he's not bad at losing his opponent in situations where he has to turn to face our goal quickly. Seems to throw out a good dummy now and then, giving him plenty of time to steady and kick it forward. He's no Hentschel, but I'd be satisfied if he played forward next year and was given a chance to show the kind of form he's been displaying over the last few weeks.

I haven't said that DT.....if you read my posts carefully you'll see that in terms of attributes he is worth perservering with as he is an ideal mix of height and speed ideally suited to the modern AFL game.


But I have also said that should he not respond to a terrible 2006 season, that he should be delisted after being placed on a "last chance" 12 month contract.

C'mon thats overly harsh to suggest that McGregor is our ONLY proven KPP

but I am not convinced about Jay Shultz - saying that we don;t know how much game time Mcgregor is going to get next year - so haveing a younger guy in the wings could be better ?
