If Bode can play like this each week - he can stay in the team.

This is the type of form he was in before he was injured.

He kicked goals, and got touches.

He used the ball well.

Now he has to do it week in and week out for a few weeks.

A big improvement on his performance over the last three or four weeks.

Small forward is not a week in week out position though. It is very much an opportunistic poition, can be a football graveyard. All the small forwards in the competition tend to be hot and cold - Farmer, Milne, Sampi, Medhurst, Leon Davis...

The small forwards who could be classed as 'consistent' are players like Chapman and Ablett who push into the midfield if there is nothing going up forward. With our midfield, Bode barely gets that opportunity.

What he can offer week in week out though is pressure on their defenders and making sure that he gets to the foot of the marking contests. I'm sure this is what he would be judged on. If we are clean with our ball use and our marking then Bode shouldn't get a possession.

I've always said that Bode's value to the team is not always that he kicks goals, but that he presents them. His continual pressure in the forward 50 is A+, and you cannot deny his persistence and heart.

Bodster and Kenny G were great last night. Its not so much the touches they got but I was more impressed with their work off the ball to set up others. They both played VERY VERY well but no doubt there will be snipers around the corner ;)

Did you hear Craigy talking about McGregor?? He said that he couldn't comprehend the criticism that Kenny cops from some supporters. He went on to say that those supporters have no idea of the important role he plays in our forward structure. :thumbsu:

Our coach is correct. :)

His last 2 weeks without Hentschel have been very important to our forward structure ... but Kenny clearly is not 100% fit. If he hasn't got OP, I'm a poor judge. He lacks power in his kicking (can't currently kick long distances) & in contests & falls over more than normal. Reckon he is playing well under duress. Reckon he will be rested once Sarge returns.

Thats why Neil Craig is coaching the best team in the league and the criticising supporters are posting on internet forums. :thumbsu: :D

I don't think he's injured....his kicking length has been deteriorating over a few seasons not just this one.

I just think the speed of the game is overtaking him....he has excellent endurance, very little 20mtr speed....has great hands but rarely leaps for a ball.

He'll maintain his position this season but he's definately not the indespensible player some here suggest

Of course Craig says that because Kenny takes an opposition tall, gets to a reasonable number of contests and is rarely outmarked.

But that role could be done by Perrie and Biglands (if he wasn't required in the ruck)...in fact Biglands ruckwork currently is very average and he is more mobile than Kenny.

Fact is on our list we're not exactly flushed with options (Watts) so of course he get's a rap from Craig

Mcgregor, Shirley, Bode ................. blah, blah, blah, blah. :thumbsd:

But Jericho's a good player.

Nothing anyone can say will convince me that he doesn't have a mild form of OP. It's not only his kicking, but he has doesn't have his normal strength in a body contest (which is one of his strengths) & is falling over much more than normal. Reckon we have been playing him out of necesity with many of our talls injured.

Well you have certainly identified my list of players to make way for the next generation of players.

You on the other hand continue to support any player in the side....say how good Knights, Douglas, Porplyzia.... are but refuse to make any predictions as to which of the current players will make way for them.

Gee it'll happen like magic...

I'm not sure he ever had a strong body...?

Not at all. The composition of a team is constantly changing and evolving. That's a totally different topic though than judging a players' performance on any given day.

You continue to confuse the 2 constantly by sledging the ones that you think will be replaced down the track, and not giving them due credit for their current performances.

Jericho on the other hand has the WW golden pass.

Just for curiosity, which one of Knights, Douglas, Porplyzia will take over CHF from Kenny?

Although I don't agree with Wayne that the replacement of Bode, Kenny etc should happen today, tomorrow or next week I can understand where he's coming from. I believe this year we put development on the back burner and go for broke, which we are doing. We should maybe even go again next year, although, given the age of our list, this path could be fraught with danger. But I can see a time in the very near future where 2nd tier players such as Bode, McGregor, Massie, Doughty, Thorney, Stevens and Shirley will have to make way for youngsters if we are to develop as a club.

The only YOUNGSTER, since the 2002 draft, that has become a walk up start in our first 22 is Count Van Berlo. That's one player in the last 4 drafts.
IMO we go for broke this year and next year, at the very least, 3 youngsters have to be introduced as permanent starters in our first 22, either Maric or Griffen, and then 2-3 of Douglas, Gibson, Pfeiffer, Vince, Knights, Porp. My money would be on:

Knights,
Douglas,
Porp,
Maric.

Indeed he is! :thumbsu: I could never understand the constant flack he gets in here. IMO he takes a good defender out of the mix every week and if they choose not to man up on him, he has a night out like last night. As we are not privvy to the roles Craigy expects players to play, it is very hard to pass judgement.

Gee saying I sledge Crow players I think is a bit over the top .....I think most of my views on players are reasonably objective but yes I take a hollistic view to that players future and are prepared to make comment on their weaknesses. And yes allo players have weaknesses.

It's very easy to sit on the cattle truck and applaud players one week and castigate them next week but IMO I judge players on talent current and future development.
It's also easy to identify players who will be delisted if they're not in the side and playing SANFL poorly ......

The only players I think you have publicly gone on record and said will make it are Knights and Douglas but you will never say who they will replace in the side....Macca that's classic fence sitting.

Regarding Jericho I have stated the reasons I think he should be perservered with...objective analysis, no cattle truck mentality....that does not mean I have given him a leave pass.

When all of you "bagged" Mattner there was Bigman, myself and a few others that saw threw his current performances and looked at his talent ....
But it also means going out on a limb with your views and some you win some not....but I don't fence sit;)

Kenny's playing because there are no better options ......Watts may have been if he stayed with Hentschell and Perrie.

But here's a question back at you ....If Kenny and Shirley were on the trade market would anyone look to pick them up.......absolutely not!.

We sometimes need to take our rose colored Crows glasses off and be a bit objective ....it doesn;t mean we are any less supporters of the Crows by doing it though
