Well, if that helps you sleep at night, then go for it. Lucas isn't in the same class as Pavlich and to even compare the golden sledge hammer to Fev is an insult. Fev is the leagues best FF and golden sledge is the leagues best diver. Edge Fevola.

Glass is the best FB is the league and Micheal is gone and has no character. It was interesting you bring up Fev's personal life yet failed to bring up the fact that Micheal business activity is completely dishonest. Very very poor individual. Fletcher is old and gone so ill have Bowden.

Edge is every one of those is the AA player, thats why they were AA players and the Essendon boys weren't. Expect the same this year.

You're kidding right? Fevola has had one good season, lets see if he can back it up this year. Lloyd clearly has been the better player over their careers

Fevola was very good last season, but Lloyd is a much better player.

Key word: was.

Career wise Lloyd without argument, but at the moment, Fevola is the regining Coleman medalist in the wooden spoon side. You cannot argue with form. Lloyd's injury in particular will have question marks - such hamstring injuries are hard to recover from and may restrict running, kicking but most importantly, confidence.

Lucas may take the shine off him too, but it takes a while to get back into form from an injury that puts you on the sidelines for most of the year. Well, most of the time anyway.

Does that really mean anything come this year?

Yes, only 1 good year (actually, no, his 2003 and 2004 season weren't that bad) but at the moment he is in better form and coming off a Coleman medal. The positions have changed, unless Lloyd can better Fev this year on the goalkicking table.

It's the moment that matters when comparing potential performance matchups this year.

I was replying to the idiotic statement regarding Lloyd not being fit enough to be mentioned in the same breath as Fevola. We will all see what happens this year, I am confident Lloyd will take back his mantle as the game's #1 FF by Round 22, barring injury.

Everyone has made far too much out of Lloyd's hamstring injury, he has been training since September last year, the only glitch being a niggle in his non-dominant hamstring. Players have come back better or the same from equally as bad injuries, Buckley managed to ressurect his career when it looked finished a few years ago, champions like Lloyd do not lose their skill overnight.

Anyway I've had enough defending Lloyd, his record speaks for itself, 767 goals at 28 years of age - he is a champion, THE best FF since the turn of the millenium last year excluded.

and doesn't the spine require a centreman?

Not sure there's any such thing...it's hard to find a distinction between rovers, ruck rovers and centremen. To me, a team's spine is it's KP players and that's why I've limited my comparision to that.

I don't care what the stats say Lucas wouldn't come close to pav. The only thing Lucas is good for is tying Pav's boot laces.

At least Lucas has never been beaten by Mark Bolton in a final :D

So you have a weakness in the centre ! Will your backs kick over the centre's heads and staright into the fwd line ?

Yes, I believe Fletcher will do that with ease. Don't you?

And with Lloyd, Hird and Johns all in the forward line I'm sure we'll see a lot of Lucas leading up and taking marks in the midfield, probably with Laycock, Bradley and McPhee all floating around the middle as marking link-men too.

The crazy ramifications of naming Bowden as a CHB. If only the selectors knew....

Probably the future of CHB's, since the game is evolving into a faster style.

But agree he shouldnt have been put there, cannot be argued his effectiveness when floating around half back though.

FB: Michael v Glass

In doing this comparison, weighting a player’s exploits from last season will clearly give an edge to AAs. But Lucas and Fletcher were 2 of the unluckiest players to miss selection in last year’s team and Lloyd and Michael have been 2 of the great bookends of the last decade. Edge: Essendon.

all i have to say is that if your impaired judgement was anywhere near being close to right then the ol bombers would have figured closer to the top of the table than battling for the wooden spoon...ya silly old boofhead...start a thread with some semblance of fact next time and you might be on the front foot from the start...:p

i'll have a nibble

Key word in all of Essendon's players is WAS

Michael WAS a good player, but football no longer his number 1 priority

Fletcher WAS a great FB. his best football played closer to goal or as a sweeper, dont think he can go with the J.Brown's, Pavlich's, Riewoldt's etc.

Lucas WAS always the second or third man in line behind lloyd and hird, Pavlich is the go to man. Pav thanx

Lloyd WAS great, still has to come back and prove himself. It has been two years now since Lloyd has kicked more then 60 goals in a year! perhaps he may finds things tougher now that the dons are a struggling team

Essendon is simply living off reputations, past glories and how good the names look on paper......but go dons

You failed to mention one thing that I said that wasn't a fact dipstick :thumbsd:

People and that includes footballers need a balance between their work life and their personal interests. If Mal was no longer interested in playing, he would’ve stayed retired…but he IS playing again, meaning he still has the passion and commitment to succeed.

Fletcher WAS a great FB. his best football played closer to goal or as a sweeper, dont think he can go with the J.Brown's, Pavlich's, Riewoldt's etc.

Bowden would get monstered by many of the AFL CHFs, which is why I suspect he plays quite loose. I agree that Fletch is unproven at CHB, but saying that he “was” a great FB is rubbish. He IS still a great FB and will still spend time playing on the last line of defence from time to time.

Lucas WAS always the second or third man in line behind lloyd and hird, Pavlich is the go to man. Pav thanx

I said the edge was with Pav, but there’s no way in hell he had a better 2006 than Lucas. With our “go to man” out last year, Scotty stepped up as no. 1 and proved how good he IS.

Lloyd WAS great, still has to come back and prove himself. It has been two years now since Lloyd has kicked more then 60 goals in a year! perhaps he may finds things tougher now that the dons are a struggling team

Lloyd has f-all to prove. He’s kicked close to 800 goals. He kicked 59 in 2005 with a broken arm…funny how you chose 60 goals as a milestone to try an prove your point. We were a struggling team last year and he was easily our best player before he got injured. Maybe we won’t struggle as much now that the AFL’s best FF IS back in the side.

Essendon is simply living off reputations, past glories and how good the names look on paper......but go dons

The WAS game is an easy game to play. Glass WAS good last year, no guarantee he’ll repeat the dose. Bowden WAS good last year…but not at CHB. Pavlich WAS good last and has rarely been injured…but that sort of thing can change for anyone at any time (just ask Lloyd). Fevola WAS good last year, but his track record suggests he’s prone to the odd form slump like in 2005…and his extra curricular activities suggest football isn’t his no.1 priority.

CHB: Fletcher v Bowden

Fletch isn’t a CHB, but then again, neither is Bowden. Fletch is however, a genuine key defender, a brilliant rebounder and coming off another terrific season. Bowden is not a key defender and his selection as AA CHB was quite ridiculous. Popular opinion suggests Joel is the cheap stat king of the AFL, although statistically, he was the top rebounder of 2006. Edge: Fletcher

J Bowden > Fletcher

yep agree, need a balnaced life outside football, with football being ur number 1 focus outside of family

he retired because football was getting in the way of setting up his business, wouldn't that mean his business takes priority of his footy??

if a trade came up m.michael for glass, u would do it in a heartbeat

yeah but isn't M.Michael the FB??
U goin to have two FB's and K.Bradley at CHB again???
Fletch isn't really proven at CHB, he is at FB, but that is where M.Michael plays

dont think the trade scenario works in this case as both dont really fit in as gun CHB's

I said the edge was with Pav, but there’s no way in hell he had a better 2006 than Lucas. With our “go to man” out last year, Scotty stepped up as no. 1 and proved how good he IS.

Yeah Lucas did have a good year, but now that Lloyd and Hird are back he will go back to being the 3rd banana and Pav will continue to be Freo's number 1 focus,

if a trade came up Pav for Lucas u would do it in a heart beat

Lloyd has plenty to prove, as does L.Darcy, NG Brown etc.

Yeah we all hope they can get back to their best, but it isn't a gaurantee.

yeah i chose 60, but could have said 84 which is what fev slotted through last year

???

the AA players from last year would start the year full of confidence raring to go

the dons players apart from Lucas all have question marks over them

ur simply listing names and expecting them to produce their best output when it may be past all of them

I'll go chuck a couple of thou on us for the Flag having read the OP, I'm convinced. Not only will we win a flag, we'll end the war in Iraq and defeat terrorism.
Why stop there, we could end world hunger. Ok back to the chair now.

Bowden is so unworthy of AA CHB it's not funny. He's a soft, recieving hack. Never see him go at the hard ball.

Set up one for me while you're at it, I'm done here.
