The booing of Goodes at every opportunity has become tedious - and very childish ( ie kids at the ground love to do it ). Hawks fans seem to spend all their energy spotting up Goodes .. and when he's playing well ( like yesterday ) it just highlights how many possessions he's getting. Try explaining it to my overseas visitors ( other that that he is politically outspoken and that he is indigenous ). It clearly does not affect him .. I'm sure he's put up with worse in his life. What is the logic ? Hawks fans - please explain. It's starting to look quite ugly and reflects badly on you.

Maybe if he stops sniping people be won't get booed.

People who boo him because of the AOTY thing or for him speaking up about racism and things like that are flogs, yes. But there's plenty of reasons to boo him besides that.

I totally agree it's tedious and that he was damn good yesterday. He does have a history with Hawthorn (taking out Rioli and Gibson with soccer type tackles and not going to the tribunal) so that may explain some of the behaviour.

He has unfortunately developed a reputation in his latter years that is drawing criticism or attention from the crowd.

Crowd pays admission. So long as it's not anything untoward they can boo or cheer whoever they like.

People don't boo Goodes because he 'snipes' because he doesn't. They replay incidents from 5 years ago and go SNIPER SNIPER. ManWithNoName, you only need to look in your own house to see far worse 'sniper' players, especially one who kicked a few hundred goals.

People boo him because of the tall poppy syndrome. Football is one of the last few forums where racism is somewhat accepted and part of the culture. Collingwood fans hate him because he called out a racist. Hawthorn supporters don't like him because of 2012. People don't like him in general because he's a black Australian of the year. Some people are just scumbags and boo him because they can.

Oh, and did I forget to mention he's Aboriginal? People generally hate that too.

:drunk:

How do you link 'racism' to Hawthorn fans booing him because of 2012? Deliberate attempt to make Hawks fans look bad?

All players who get a lot of free kicks get boo'd. Funnily enough, some of those players are ones who get them through 'dubious' methods. Thomas, Selwood, and yes, Goodes. It's not racist.

Nathan Buckley was booed basically his whole career, funny there was never a thread about that.

I've got no doubt there are people who boo him for being outspoken or for being Aboriginal. And I think that's disgraceful. But I also think he has a history of sniping players and has racked up a bad rep as a result of that.

Goodes has had a slightly dirty/protected by the umpires and tribunal reputation for as long as I can remember. The booing seems relatively recent (past two years or so) to me. Sort of seems like people decided to start booing him and figured out justifications for doing so later.

If you watched last night, every time there was a potential free kick, Goodes looked straight at the umpire expecting the whistle to be blown. Not a good look. I reckon he did it on at least 5 occasions last night. And then clapping in Gibson's face after Sam Reid marked over him, another trait that doesn't endear him to opposition fans.

That is why he gets booed. It has nothing to do with his AOTY award and the circumstances surrounding that.

Looks like he kicked the ball before Gibbo got contact.

Kicking in danger maybe, no where near a snipe.

Aker was boooed by the entire country too. So what.

People booed Goodes before that Collingwood game too, they don't like the way he plays football these days, and fair enough too. If you are looking for reasons why people don't like the way he plays, watch his game against Richmond last year.

That's why we boo Jetta when we play you too. Cos we're all racist dogs. Oh and we boo Buddy cos he's indigenous too. Not because of the circumstances surrounding how he left our club. Not at all.

Sometimes you need to take the rose coloured glasses off and look past the easy target of race to see what people have done in the past, and how that shapes opposition fans reactions to them. Goodes has sniped, and has gotten away with. He also whinges frequently, and gets away with it. That's why I hate him, and why I'll continue to boo him.
