Oh, yeah, that. Definitely the worst thing about it. They give you this wax to use though - definitely helps.
It used to slip off easy for me though.

Make the dental wax, Bonjela, a pocket mirror (to check food left behind) and a floss brush your best friends.

in case anyone was curious, my ex had braces, and while i was worried, she reassured me, and it wasn't a problem :thumbsu:

I had braces about 2 years ago, much fun came of that. Not only did 3 teeth bite the dust but I also had to have a screw put into my jaw to anchor a chain or band. The screw is possibly the most painful thing ever to ever go in, apparently my body chose that day to develop an immunity to local anaesthetic.

Still got the metal band behind the front teeth and the screw. Bad side of it all was thta my teeth got badly stained, a lot of it having to do with the cement stuff. Gonna have to get em brightened or cleaned.
$$$$ - bloody dentists laughing all the way to the bank

I got my braces off not long ago. Don't be scared, getting them in doesnt hurt at all. The painful part is not being able to eat solid food until a week or so.

I had the lot. Braces for 4 years including the headbrace at night. I then had a plate for 18months with a band screwed across the inside of my lower jaw. I'm so glad I'm over all that crap.

I had braces from August 2005- November 2006.

I absolutely ****ing hated them. They give you ulcers, and they look like shit.
It ****ing sucks when food gets caught in between them, and having to go to the orthodontist every month to get them tightened.

The worst bit is the 2/3 days after you get them on, being able to eat no food. It absolutely kills. When you get them tightened it hurts for a day or so but then its allright.

I guess it's all worth it now anyway. I barely ever wore my plates after i got my braces removed and my teeth didn't move.

Glad to see that i'm not the only one who completely disregarded what my ortho said. I ate anything I wanted, lollies, coke, chewies, had no problems with them either.

Some girls look extremely hot with braces. I like a girl with braces...

IMO braces make you look cheekier. Braces aren't that bad. Had them on for about 1 & a half years and plates for 2 years. Plates are worse than braces- you always have to take em off when you eat... Braces didn't hurt that much. At the start you couldn't eat anything hard but after that its ok. I didn't have to take any teeth out so yeah...

Got mine off about 6 months ago. Had them for about 2 1/2 years...

- a couple of days after getting them on, it hurts like a bitch. Can't eat many foods, just soup, bread and ***t like that.

- Whenever you get them tightened is probably the worst part IMO. hurts for ages.

- But after all, it defiantly is worth it. I never used to smile that much (with braces on), but since i've gotten them off I smile all the time now.

Good luck

i am 14 but yet to get my 12 year old molars
i have been told i need braces cause i have many gaps cause of my small teeth
i also have a over bite

I've been seeing the same orthodontist since I was 8, I'm 16 now. It feels like I've had every type of orthodontic work, including braces.
I got braces when I was 11 & got them off at 13, so nearly 2 years. My teeth were pretty bad from old habits as a child so if I didn't have braces my teeth would be pretty bad. I was so excited about getting them on for some reason. I had the metal ones. It was fun going along & picking colours. on several occasions I had black & white ones :p.
I found them a real pain to clean & I hated getting food stuck in them. I couldn't eat stuff like redskins (although, I did try.....).
When it was time to get them off, I couldn't wait!

I've had them off for a while now & it is the best feeling. I love smiling now because my teeth look awesome :D

It's definately worth it. :p

My 11yo son was told last week that he needs braces. Does anyone know how much is it going to cost me?:(

It depends.
I think mine were about $4000 :thumbsd:
But a friend asked people in my class who'd had braces and how much it cost, & prices ranged from about $3000 +.
Not a cheap exercise.

Yeah mine is going to be 6k all up I think. I'm sure it'll be better in the long run.
