Free Agency Brad Crouch [joins St Kilda as a RFA for pick 23]

Looking like this thread will hit 300 pages tonight and we may end up with a nil all draw with Crouch accepting the crows matched bid to stay (Probably what he always wanted)

Where is Maurice Blackburn to start a class action against the crows for wasting everybody's time with not having an offer on the table or crouch so every team knows they are just piss farting around
My gut feel is that's not a possibility anymore.

Brad Crouch and his manager played it well. Used the RFA system to advantage them. Got a long term contract he wasn't getting from the Crows initially, and might still end up there.

Well played

So Adelaide are deadset gonna match? Take it to the bank?

That's what Kelly said. And they can't even use, "we thought it would be band 1, damn AFL" as an excuse. He's now quoted as waiting fir AFL to tell us compo and and they'll make the best decision for the club. Which is stepping back from pick 20ish isn't enough, we will match.

Excellent. I await the news with baited breath.

Say you match then what?
- crouch accepts which is unlikely given his comments this week about needing a fresh start and Adelaide position about needing draft compensation rather than retention
- crouch does not accept. What then?

It may well be that the reason the deal was not lodged on Friday was that the Saints were not prepared to go as high as needed for band 1 and have seen what Daniher needed to be paid and then dialed back their offer to a level where they know the crows match - if $600K over 4 years is correct and are ok to walk away and crouch gets to stay in Adelaide. Both sides can move on

What the supporter base will not put up with is now not matching the offer. I would suspect the current CEO and a few others might find their position comes under the blowtorch buy a very very angry supporter base in the main

He tested the market and the highest bidder was the saints.

Which should be a wake up call as to what his value is.

This is it. That's his highest point.

Adelaide if they valued him more would have offered more before he tested the market and then came back asking for a match.

Its also a wake up call if this goes to the PSD. No other club is going to step in here. Hes at his highest point.

If saint offer less in a trade than the compo pick it means they risk losing him for nothing at the PSD given no other club is going to take him.

Except that before he tested the market it was rumoured that they had $900k on his head. If anything, he should be more appreciative of the offer we originally had on the table. I bet it's nit looking as low bally now.

Or there is a follow up trade consisting of your compo pick plus a later pick for Saints first round pick.

Who back flips first?
Adelaide giving him a 5yr deal they didn't want or trading him for a pick they didn't want to as they wanted 2 not saints pick in the teens to 20s
Or
Saints trading for him with there first?

Do you realise Crouch & his manager accepted Saints 4 x 600 offer before the free agency paperwork was lodged. This is no surprise to him nor his management. Crows refused to provide any such offer to his management. Crouch tested the marked, found he could make a nice packet of 2.4 m plus triggers & accepted....at another club.

You have been told that Adelaide will not match

Sounds plausible to me ..however will it be compo pick or pick 20 ?

Why would saints "dial back" there offer?
What do they care if the crows match and hr has to stay in adelaide?
No way they offered 700k but dropped it to 600k because of the kindness in there heart for adelaide

If he accepts he stays if he doesn't he gets traded or goes into a draft if that fails. It's not a state secret or particularly complicated.

I reckon the Crows shot themselves in the foot by threatening to match.

The Saints may have been willing to offer say $750k x 5 if it was as a FA. But, with the Crows threatening to match then the Saints probably thought "well if we have to trade for him (ie if it doesn't hit band 1) then we are only willing to pay $600pa."

In other words, at $600k, I suspect the Saints are happy to trade

you totally missed the point, they are fully aware the crows have threatened to match and have been public in saying so. If St Kilda were originally wanting to pay brad X but had adjusted it up to try and hit the band 1 threshold so that it negated a trade scenario and then found out that th such an offer was still well shy, they might then have decided to cut and run. at $600K per year they would be 100% sure that the crows could match that and if they do it becomes a very convenient reason to say OK, we will go after other targets rather than have to trade a couple of first rounders for Brad

That makes no sense. Why would Brad and his manager agree to a pay cut? A last minute pay cut at that.

It might well be that St Kilda and the crows had agreed a salary dump player for the Saints to have raised their offer - and if that offer was still too low for band 1, they ran the risk of paying brad extra and the crows walking away from taking a player or 2 to help relieve some salary cap. Brad might not have had much choice but to sign on at a lower rate considering he had no other contract offer to date

$600k over 4 years is the price you offered not to use picks. He'll have to take a bath on the contract if you have to trade for him.

But on less money than he is on now or the $750k pa we offered prior to COVID.

Happy to keep Brouch, but he should get a new manager.
