Maloney from melbourne would be a handy pick up if his body is right, and wants out of the dees. Type of bigger bodied player that could protect Judd, cause aint gonna get it from the like of Stevens, Carazzo

Melbourne demanded pick 14 for Travis Johnstone
Therefore a second round draft pick is unacceptable for Melbourne's best player and B&F for 2008.

First round draft pick or no dice.

Tell him he's dreamin  Greens best years are well and truly behind him .
Melbourne are pretty desperate for any quality players so i can understand them wanting above odds for their washed up players .

its all well and good to speculate of course, but lets remember what happened last time we stocked up on olser players to try and land a flag. some people think we should poach Brown, White, Rutten, Fraser and now Green just to name a few. trust the kids to develop.

Maloney is always injured.... he wouldn't have played many games since leaving Geelong.

Given Johnstone was an ex-#1 draft pick, already had a B & F to his name in a year that Melbourne made the 8 & has so much more talent than Green, Green would be worth no more than a pick in the low '20s, at best. Melbourne are already going to have pick 1, 17 & 19 (assuming the Eagles don't win another game), so I can't imagine a team giving them another first round pick, in what is going to be a strong draft, for a player like Green. If Melbourne got a low to mid '20s pick for Green, that would give them 4 picks in the top 25. A strong position in what will be the last uncompromised draft for a couple of years.

So much wrong with that post.
Green is actually having a career best year. You probably haven't seen much of Melbourne this year, but he's clearly been our best player.
And he's adding gutsy marks to his resume.

Brad Green comes from a die hard Carlton supporting family.

It isn't a secret that everytime he comes out of contract - his father throws up the possibillity of sending Brad to Carlton.

In 2005, when our club was at its lowest point - he nominated himself for a trade with Lance Whitnall (who was negotiating his contract with Carlton).

... In Hindsight .. we probably should have done that trade .. we would have had #12 in 2005 :(

Despite what people have said, I still don't see Green as a matchwinner. When Travis Johnstone was BOG, Melbourne won. When Green is piling up stats, it's usually because he's had 14 marks at half back and 22 "effective kicks" and the Dees still aren't close.

Sure, you add him because he's quality if someone's selling him for cheap off the back of a truck. You don't chase him, because 28yo soft players aren't the answer. We already have our one or two of those.

Getting Moloney would be an appalling idea. We already have a solid midfielder who sounds great on paper but never plays a game in Richard Hadley.

Not interested...best seasons behind him, well outside of our recruitment policy, and at 28 I could only imagine he is looking for a big dollar multi year deal to see out his career.

Only Brad I'm interested in from Melbourne is Miller.

if Melbourne are having a crazy run out sale where everythings "just gotta go- Dam cheap!!" I'd take a look. But i dare say they'll want too much for him

No thanks.

Decent player having his best year but he's around the age where he would become unwanted by us.

We're not going to recruit a 28 year old midfielder as, quite simply, that's not the direction in which we want to head as a football club.

We're more in the market for younger players, and if we recruit from other clubs I imagine it would be in the 21-23 age bracket, except for an experienced ruckman who will be 28+

I'd rather continue the development of Grigga instead of recruiting Green who would play a similar role and push Grigg out of the side.

Thats just it you wouldnt recruit him as a midfielder but would be a very handy small marking forward who can kick straight, could be a great secondary lead up option and play like an Ebert from Port with the odd run further up the ground should the team require it.

For $300-400k a year or whatever he'd want, no effin' way.

Brad Green's job is filled by Heath Scotland and Nick Stevens at Carlton. There's just no requirement to put resources into another one.

He has never been a small marking forward, so I would be livid if we recruited a midfielder, aged 28, and played him out of position for a few years.

We want a small marking forward who can kick straight? Look for them in the draft, or recruit them from other clubs if they are younger (eg. McKinley).

Dont recall seeing Scotland or Stevens play that particular forward role of which i was speaking about.:confused:

Probably agree with not paying $400k but at $300k i would consider it, but as i said earlier in the thread ideally he would be great to get and then package up and "on trade" him immediately to either land someone better or improve our draft picks.

Disagree.

Drafting a small marking forward or getting Mckinley would be great but maybe doing a 3 way deal with Melb might help that eventuate, I guess i am only talking from a point of view where what do we do if we cant get a McKinley type???

That's my point. A "very hand small marking forward" isn't Brad Green's job any more. He's a sweeper, HBFer, winger type who gets tons of uncontested ball. Ie. Scotland and Stevens.

Don't bother prying Green out to on-trade... just trade what you'd send to Melbourne for Green.

Gees! Who are they overpaying?

Based on performance I'd say their entire senior list...

Their best performers this season are Wonaeamirri and Valenti who are both elevated Rookies! :D
