So it's that time of the year again boys and girls, the most holy of weekly previews, that where we adhere to all things brad scott week related. Random hissy fits, tantrums when you don't get your way, standing on the corner rattling a tin to pay to keep the lights on, being perennially shit, irrelevant and bashing on about something to do with masturbating with shin bones. Let Brad Scott week begin with a win sure to follow, random gifs of some sad campaigner and us all bouncing around with jubilant Masto's.
This fixture has given us some great joy with our come from behind win in the 2015 prelim, strong wins the last two years and going back a bit further in time heroics from our two greatest ruckmen in Dean Cox and Nic Naitanui to save and then win us the game when we really should have lost both.
So what defines and decides the match? A lot i think will come down to the weather. If it plays nice our aerial superiority, overall better skills, marking forwards and rock solid defence will get us over the line. However we've seen it on many occasions before when the weather turns to shit and a team has their back to the wall they drag a superior side down to their level and beat them in a scrap.
North have the weapons to challenge us particularly if the umps give their scragging defenders leeway. Scott Thompson is widely regarded as one of the biggest asshats in the competition and Tarrant is a solid negating defender in defence. Mcmillan could very well cover Lecras as well leaving us needing a good contribution from cripps and the young guys in king willie and venables. In the midfield north are very workman like and particularly in a dour scrap cunnington and ziebell loom large as contested beasts. Watch as higgins provides the class on the outside and someone like Jed Anderson does the oft seen nobody player with a best game of career 4 goals from a flank to make it harder for us. The loss of Jacobs to injury could really hurt north in not being able to shut down at least one of shuey or Yeo.
If the weather stays fine however our strong defence combined with the great footskills of Hurn and Jetta should restrict Norf from scoring enough to beat us. I'm expecting us to out work them and our run and link up to win the game combined with key goals from our forward brigade. Our kicking will need to be first class due to blundstone arena being both shorter and narrower than optus. A fun fact being that its overall size is smaller than that of the SCG.
BOG: Elliot Yeo
Yeo's dynamic playstyle, aggression and agility will tear lolnorf apart with him to have 30 disposals, 2 goals and a couple of truly destructive tackles.
Most goals: Josh Kennedy despite not being completely match fit outclasses and outmarks the dour north defence and kicks 5 goals, all in the second half.
Most important team role: Despite my previous claims watch hutchings go unheralded in keeping the class of higgins from being a defining factor in the game, getting coaches votes and still receiving questions about his usefullness on this board.
Worst moment: Masten loses all sense of game sense and is run down from behind 1 minute after being pinged for holding the ball for failing to fend off a midget.
Result: West Coast by 71 points after north keep it close for 2 and a half quarters before we power away with 12 goals in the last quarter and a half. Brad Scott to blame some obscure free kick just after half time for his team losing by 12 goals and the conspiracy that is West Coast winning the overall free kick count.
West Coast 18.21 129
North Melbourne 7.16 58
