The 18-year-old was already highly rated at Geelong, with Cats recruiting boss Stephen Wells making a habit of panning for gold in the Top End.

Wells, considered one of the best in his business, also oversaw the drafting of dual premiership-winning star Mathew Stokes and Nathan Djerrkura, whose careers began in Darwin.

Parfitt became the latest footballer Wells plucked from the NT – via Nightcliff in the NTFL, then North Adelaide in the SANFL – when he called out his name at pick 26 in last year's NAB AFL Draft.

The teenager, nicknamed 'Boo' for his quiet nature but entrusted with Brownlow medallist Jimmy Bartel's No.3, hasn't missed a beat since.

He was a strong performer in his first AFL pre-season and broke into Geelong's round one line-up before a 23-disposal, five-tackle effort in a winning Cats cause over Melbourne on Saturday.

Two rewards came Parfitt's way: coach Chris Scott wrapped his arm around him in the immediate aftermath and now he is the round three NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.

"It's a pretty cool feeling after all the hard work over the summer, so it's good to see it pay off," Parfitt told AFL.com.au.

"It was definitely an easy adjustment to already know two blokes (Motlop and Cockatoo), but I've made some really good mates and I'm staying with a great host family.
Well deserved, great to see another future star running around in the No.3 for the hoops.

Very well deserved.
He just simply knows how to play the game, gets to the right spots, goes when he needs to, good vision and use by hand.
His kicking needs sharpening up but that will no doubt be getting worked on.

Going to be a gem

Yes Parfitt! I was also thinking that he'd be out last week but then he went and played a binder.

A sign of things to come.

Absolutely deserves it.
Its only been a few rounds but what are the chances of him having a shot at it at the end?

After missing round 2 this bloke has really impressed me.

Sam PP is getting the hype for being a ready made player physically but this bloke isn't far behind. Look's as strong as an Ox through the core and Hammies.
I think that video of him beating Selwood in a one-on-one marking duel in pre-season showed just how strong he is for a kid. Seems like a great pick up so far.

That tackle in the highlights on the app where he just slammed into the bloke who hit the deck and he didn't budge. Low to the ground, fleet footed and good footy brain. Will be a much better player then caddy ever will be

Well done, and much deserved after his efforts on Saturday. It felt that over the first couple of rounds he was drifting out of the game in the second half, but his 3rd quarter on Saturday was brilliant.

I picked him to win the Rising Star award this year, regretting not putting some coin on him before the season started.
