I wonder if the apparent ascendance of Ruscoe in the backline could allow for Bruz moving into the middle...

Would certainly give greater flexibility.

Maynard's problem is that he's been too good in the backline. He's so valuable to us right now in his current position we can't move him.

However, with Moore and Howe in the team it would be a different story and it'd be good to see us plan during the off season to unleash the Bruz as a mid.

There must be a slight question mark over Howe now in regards to durability, if we get a decent offer you may find he is moved on.

We'll need to find an extra defender (maybe McInnes could cut his teeth there) but I'd be interested in both Crisp and Maynard playing as mids. Roughy, Moore, Howe, Ruscoe (if he continues) Noble Quaynor and one more still looks like a strong defence to me.

If Maynard succeeded as a mid, to add to JDG Adams and Crisp, it could turn the short term around really quickly.

I actually think Nick Daicos will begin his AFL career in defence playing a similar role to what Noble currently is.

Hes a defender. Would be an ok midfielder but will always be a defender. I'd prefer him not to be playing undersized all the time but hes a victim of his own success......hes so bloody good he often plays on the best forward regardless of inches and kilograms.

Crisp is more or less there already. If theres room to move anybody else upfield Id rather IQ than Maynard.

Not to mention a greater chance of having a key forward run over him in a marking contest. Let him play midfield / forward where he was brought up to play.

My view is the majority of his career will be as a linking mid, but he probably won't get a huge number of midfield minutes next year. And to me, a running defender role is more similar to his future role than a small forward role is. Wing is the other likely scenario.

Well Maynard will be in the midfield next year. I don’t mind it if it means Crisp is thrown back, but I do think we’d then need to find experienced cover out of the state leagues. Think Tom Highmore.
