If you were out to dinner and you heard the news, would you not have acted the same way? I certainly would have. And don't forget, Eddie is only a supporter now.
No ****ing way. Especially as a public figure! That was crass and was completely out of touch with the sensitivity of the issue.

I think he still does corporate stuff for Collingwood. The funny thing is, his son was embarrassed and told Eddie to sit back down but he was the one who was filming it which suggests the whole thing was planned.

I retract this statement.

Whateley has only shown class and why he is the best caller in the game, since the correct result was made.

Credit to him for absorbing logic and projecting it in a positive light. Hopefully the AFL don’t appeal the decision which is likely to be the case.

Things are happening here people.

Nah, disagree. Whateley is just doing what he always does - flip-flopping. Usually he sits on the fence until a decision is made and then acts as if that was what he thought all along, but this case is different. 24 hours ago he was calling for Maynard to be suspended, now all of a sudden he changes his mind to align with the (correct) outcome.

So you are upset with all the celebrating on here I guess.
No, given I was celebrating both on here and with my mates who I was out for dinner with last night (2 Blues fans & a Swans fan, all of the opinion that Maynard should get off). But I did not bother everyone in the restaurant, nor am I a high-profile ex-rep of the Pies. He could have been a little less of a blowhard for just one time in his life.

Shaun Smith having a sook on social media, but he's been concussed for most of his life so we'll cut him some slack.

But these words are from Peter Jess, a legal type who has some portion of brain matter but would prefer to let hysteria do his talking:

“The tribunal’s decision is flawed in so many aspects that it begs the question whether a complete reset of the process and rules need to be urgently undertaken to firmly enforce safety,” Jess said on Wednesday.

“To allow a player to collide at force to create an event that leaves the victim unconscious and potentially brain damaged is simply unacceptable on all levels.

“Sport cannot be isolated from societal expectations of how you treat your fellow human beings. Maynard’s behaviour outside the football field would be totally unacceptable.

What do these people see when they watch a football game? How much of a football game would be allowed off-field?

Even so, doesn't society and its 'expectations' still allow for notions of mistake and accident?

How do you 'enforce safety' without obliterating the game itself?

----------------------------------------------------------------

These people are shrill and devoid of critical thought.

I can't help but wonder how much of this stupidity is driven by the fact that Maynard looks like an inkless bikie.
What do you mean? I'm always tackling people and jumping on people's backs while flying for imaginary hangers on the street

Seems to me the Eddie bashing still goes on ad nauseum. I hope the hate for Bruzzy does not continue this long.

Now Shaun Smith is calling Maynard “thug” and the verdict “disgusting”

I’m getting tired of the constant digs on either the player or the club and it’s becoming fast distasteful and disrespectful.

Time people like Smith, Schofield and H. Brayshaw etc started pulling what’s left of their heads in.
Defamation proceedings. You can’t go around calling someone a thug.

So you are upset with all the celebrating on here I guess.
People on the main board are struggling to differentiate Pies supporters being happy Maynard was cleared with any other issues on the matter. Apparently were all "victim blamers" now and are happy Brayshaw got knocked out. All these moral highground Helen Lovejoys all off a sudden are putting a bounty on Nicks head going forward which is conflicting information to the "duty of care" lectures they've spruiked all week suddenly. Must be exhausting hating Collingwood so much your belief system changes hourly

If someone intentionally knocks Nick out, Bruz may actually do something suspension worthy....

You (i assume) and i are not media personalities, where every move is recorded and is posted on sites because it is of interest to people. It is because of his position that he should know better that to bait and make stupid comments. He has form unfortunately, It doesn't serve him well. Even lesss for Collingwood, because he is still considered a representative of CFC by all, regardless if we keep claiming he has nothing to do with CFC and he is just a supporter

If you or i did that, nobody would see it, let alone care. Even if you did post it, it probably wouldn't go further than an anonymous BF poster being cringe-worthy.

If Koshy did this in similar circumstances, what would you think?

Defamation proceedings. You can’t go around calling someone a thug.
He also said someone at the tribunal was on the take for letting Maynard off,so that’s defamatory as well. But of course we won’t hear anything about that, because the narrative in the media is Maynard bad,and must be punished.

Anyone that has an issue with this accidental incident happening in a physical 360 degree game, needs to stop watching and go watch lawn bowls. Deliberate decisions to get a player high is a different story, the players know, the media know it and the afl and tribunal have done a great job in trying to stamp it out as much as they can, along with the sling tackle. The introduction of the concussion test, the protocol are all steps forward implemented to help reduce the impact and I don’t think anyone disagrees with these changes to protect the players. However, I would say that a person with half a brain and reasonable consciousness should be able to understand the risks and inherent dangers of playing any sport. Again it has been proven that this incident stands on its on in uniqueness. The only way this specific incident does not occur in the future is if they make smothering illegal or advising players they are not allowed to make a forward pressure attack on the ball. I think the changes that have been made are a great step towards protecting players, but some of these people out here are wanting to change the game completely is scary.

Jess should reason this comment with Boxing. Or kick-boxing. Do those actions in society and let's see where it gets you. But no, we must focus on football.
He shouldtake up the crusade to ban boxing, etc!!

You really think he is a supporter the same as you or I, I think his reaction showed why we needed to part ways with him. I do not think we need our supporters to be as stupid as those on the other side of this debate.

Agree with this 100%. I love Ed and what he did for our club when it was on its knees, but he’s never been able to restrain himself in regards to cringeworthy behaviour on sensitive issues.
If he was still president that celebration last night would have been a monumental embarrassment for the club. Instead he just embarrassed himself as an individual while the club kept its head low and wished all the best to Angus in his recovery.

Made some sense for the AFL to test the rules with their pending legal action, however it would have been much less sensible for them to appeal. Glad they didn’t appeal, now we can concentrate on the prelim

I’d rather media commentators admit they were wrong and change their mind based on clear evidence and facts from hearings like last night than double down and insist that their opinion is right while ignoring any evidence presented to them.

No issue with Whateley changing his mind over these things.

I don't know what the issue is. Most people knew from day one Maynard was going to be cleared. Even Kane Cornes, who is the biggest Collingwood hater in the media, was adamant Maynard is innocent and should be cleared. You can't get a bigger endorsement than that.

Jess has some link to the class actions, so he’s hardly going to say anything different

What we're seeing at the moment is multiple layers of dishonesty.

People are dishonest about the nature of Maynard's actions, but they're also refusing to grapple with the fundamental nature of the game.

We've sped the game up, made it more athletic, put more players at every contest, and yet we think that head injuries can be eliminated from the game? That they should only be a thing of the past?

There seems to be a view that the game should now perfectly reflect our modern sensibilities. We hate head injuries, and so we should be able to reconstruct the game to reflect that abhorrence.

It is a terrible conceit and a horribly misguided notion.

That doesn't mean we give up on trying to make the game safer, but we also acknowledge in ourselves that the game we love is inherently dangerous and will always have a capacity to harm.

Has he admitted he was wrong?
