Thought that was Goldy?

Yep definitely Goldy.

How can anyone continue to keep the faith with Maynard when he directly costs us goals every week. He's always playing catch up. We're not in a position to be giving up easy goals like he does every week. In fairness he was much better in the second half and that smother was very good but jesus christ he makes me nervous whenever he is around the ball.

Goldsack and Aish only laid one tackle as well and they also both play off half back. It might be a positional thing. Maynard makes the occasional mistakes but he gives us plenty that makes up for his errors and I think he's got a lot of potential too.
I don't see how any running type player should ever return just the 1 tackle per game. Don't understand how that happens without it being an effort\desire thing. We have a gameplan of numbers at the ball.. we aim to out tackle teams but we consistently don't. An issue that seems to have slipped under the radar a bit with all the focus on our ball use/movement. If we were say 5th for tackling rather than 11th.. I reckon we would be 5 and 4 or better. Fixing the tackling is easier than ball use and movement.

Continue the faith because not every player starts out a super star. I would rather see a stupid mistake from Maynard than someone like Smith, Phillips etc because there is something most games that Maynard does that to me just says yep with some more games this kid will just click. Hundreds of players have had it happen to them where the penny has dropped a little later and they have gone on to be very good players. This kid will be one of them.

This, this, this and this.

I thought Maynard had a great game.

He's basically where Marley Williams was in 2015, but a much much better kick.

1 thing that you cannot question Maynard over is effort/desire.
I think you're taking too much out of 1 recorded tackle.

I think he is being played out of position.........I don't think he is a defender.

He was good tonight..........the kid still has brain farts but once he cleans that up he will be a good player.

Yeah Maynard always has a crack but if you are only getting 1 tackle you are doing something wrong. Our tackling is down this year and the players need to be held accountable.

**most of the time
1 out of... say 5-7 is an absolute shocker.
The rest perfect.
Look forward to see his progression.
Don't think he will ever be elite but love the way he goes about it.
Should only get cleaner and better.

Yep, my post was at qtr time and I was livid. He cracked in after qtr time and did pretty well. :thumbsu:

However that doesn't mean his weekly turnovers hurt us any less.

Scharenberg a far better option going forward imo
Yeah I think you're just going to have to accept it's going to happen. But I gaurentee you'll forget about it when he's one of our important players in a couple years time.

There's also players who go the other way from this position. He's definitely a 50/50 for me atm. Has the weapons but also very poor composure and execution sometimes. I want nothing more than for it all to click for him but the jury's still out for me.

Yeah that's fair enough I'm obviously the other side of the coin and I believe he will be ok. To me all it is down to is experience. Like other have said, and I probably agree with, defence won't be this blokes career position. He will end up further up the field but I think it's good for him getting the experience in the backline. He needs to hone in his defensive skills and that's obviously the only way it's going to happen.

Me too, I was ready to jump the fence in the first quarter but at the end all was forgiven.
Think he will come good at least he doesn't seem the type to ever give up.
