I'm starting to agree with others he'd be better off a wing. He's starting to get some possession numbers to justify it. His short kicks are less dangerous if they don't work out; and more profitable when they do. He does have the guts to try and nail a tricky pass! His hardness would be really valueable there too. Wing seems to fit his attributes a bit better.
I'm not sure if he is suited to keeping his spacing to be used as an outlet, like you want from a wingman. Likes the contest too much. For me, he's a defender until he can push someone out of the midfield.

I hate bumping Maynards thread when I'm his biggest fanboy but he deserves praise for how he is developing. :straining::straining::straining:

He hits hard:

Can roost it long his left:

Kicks lace out with his right:

and most of all, loves a cheeky goal:

and the best part of all is that he is only 21 with 61 games to his name.

Bruzzy was the bloke I stood up for last year. I couldn’t understand how everyone couldn’t see the tools he has, just needed some time. It’s a shame he’s missed a few games this year but I reckon the time off has matured him even more. Kid is so reliable.

Half the reason why I took a liking to him was because of the abuse he copped on here when he was still young and raw with under 20 games. He just looked like a footballer though. It was obvious he wasn't going anywhere, and was going to turn into a lock for best 22. I don't think we will see his true potential for another 2-3 seasons though. Between 100-200 games is when we will see just how good he can be. He has so much upside!

My main takeaway from this post is really a question of how the actual f*ck did the umpire call play-on there.......................................

Incorrect disposal/dropping the ball is one area that I just cannot follow at the moment - it seems almost random what gets paid and what doesn't.

In the above example I think that the ruling was that Maynard dislodged the ball rather than it being "incorrectly disposed" by the GC player and therefore play on.

Best part of all that was the right foot kick. It was atrocious in the past, but that kick was quite tidy. This development makes him a significantly better player.

One sided players, particularly in the back half, can get in to real trouble if caught on their wrong side.

I’m pretty sure this tackle was the one that he made before that set shot, and another umpire overruled the play on call.

Can’t believe I had to go back 8 pages to retrieve this thread
Thought he was consistently excellent today, hard as nails, used the ball and defended well
Been an underrated performer but this was his best game for the year
Terrific today.

Most impressive was him holding the whole thing together at the crunch times; lovely kick for distance.
And tough, real tough.

I likes

I likes a lot

Best game for the year. This kid goes seriously under the radar. Does so many jobs for us plus all the team things.

Going into finals you have to have players like Maynard that will have the desperation. He gives it his all for the club when he steps on the field.
