Player Watch Brayden Maynard

Luke Hodge was tough as nails. I’m surprised he has any issue with this incident.
He didn't have an issue with the verdict; he thought Bruzz should get off from the beginning. He was commenting on Brayshaw deviating to the right after kicking. This was crucial in last night's hearing. Hodge was commenting on somebody else's idea that players lean to the opposite direction after kicking. Hodge suggested a player leans to the opposite direction to the grounded/supporting leg. In this scenario, Brayshaw would always lean slightly to the right.

When the Carlscum supporters carry on about Maynard being cleared, throw the words of their beloved Sam Docherty back at them :

Carlton veteran Sam Docherty was in the Maynard camp. “I think there’s an inherent risk in playing AFL footy that sometimes in football actions people are going to get hurt, whether that’s concussion or other injuries. In my eyes, this was an unfortunate accident,” he said on AFL 360 after the verdict.

“He’s gone up in a game that’s very important to the football club to smother the ball on the way down, you’ve got 0.15 of a second to try and change your body position or get out of the way … the duty of care would’ve been to not jump and smother, but smothering in our game of footy is an integral part.

“I don’t think we’ll find too many situations where this will exactly happen, but there’s risk in playing – and that’s OK, we all go out there knowing that. It’s very unfortunate for Angus to be in the position he’s in, but I’m pleased he (Maynard) has got off.”

Of all the things to come out of this that has made me cringe the most, it has to be that video of Eddie. Utterly embarrasing.
Yes I thought that could’ve been handled with absolute class by Eddie.

He could’ve said something like:

“Great news everybody, Brayden Maynard has been cleared and if free to play. We always believed this would be the correct decision. This was an unfortunate accident and most importantly, our thoughts are with Angus Brayshaw and his family and we all hope Angus recovers quickly.”

Have to say I was not happy seeing McGuire celebrating on that video after Maynard cleared ...after seeing how measured Howe was on 360 and Graham Wright afterwards and how they referenced Brayshaws welfare I suspect the club was very aware not to inflame gloat and possibly goad the AFL into appealing ..Its been so refreshing to have a new president who's very much in the media background and not bringing us unwanted publicity

You can point out to the simpletons on the CarltonBoard that Doherty disagrees with them all. Be prepared for a stint in jail though 🤣

No way am I going anywhere near that board 😆 I much prefer to loathe them from a distance.

He's just a dickhead. While I respect the good he has done for our club, multiple times he has brought great embarrassment to it. Publicly celebrating like that in a restaurant given what had transpired is just a magnet for scorn and I am absolutely done with Eddie McGuire related scorn.

I think you summed up how everyone feels about Ed.

We are very grateful for him saving our club financially. He righted the ship. But the other side of him is what upsets us all.

Just watched the Graham Wright video. Handled with such dignity, humility and grace with a focus on Angus Brayshaw. As it should be. I’m especially happy it’s posted on the Collingwood site for all to see.

our club is in very good hands now ..well coached well managed and a president that avoids the limelight

Really well said.

Huge contrast between the humility displayed by Howe on hearing the verdict versus the buffoonery and grandstanding by Eddie.

“If you all take concussion so seriously, perhaps you should campaign for a higher penalty for van rooyen? An illegal elbow to the head, mcstay was very lucky not to be concussed

I look forward to the Melb football club taking a stance and asking for 4 weeks for him”

I posted this on their board and it wasn’t well received. I made the mistake of reading their comments and I couldn’t help myself call out their hypocrisy, Goodwin included
On van Rooyen was that his 2nd ban this season because was a swinging arm merchant last time.

You are also correct about Pickett there was real intent to hurt an opponent in that report but we were told because he never knocked him out all,s well it does not matter about intent that only matters when someone is concussed.

Speaking of buffoonery............can somebody tell Hamish Brayshaw to just STFU?
He's coming across as a complete imbecile.
Yes, the family is very upset at what happened, but Hamish is spouting ridiculous conspiracy theories about the AFL colluding to win Collingwood a premiership; it's really embarrassing.
As if the AFL would assist Collingwood in any way.

You've got to be a bit more understanding of his situation. Just 2 days ago he was lowering his brother's coffin, yet somehow yesterday he would have been confronted with images of Angus at training!! How confusing would that be for the bloke? Compounded by the fact that he would be struggling for double-digit brain cells

I think it showed why it was as good parting of the ways for the Pies,it is a terrible look imv it seems like gloating. We are all glad Maynard had no case to answer and proved Christian correct in his view and not bias as some have claimed.

These attacks on Bruz are disgusting. Direct quote from Sean Smith:
“Absolutely disgusting .... The AFL is a disgusting organisation ... I wonder who was on the take to clear this thug.”

Calling Bruz a thug 😡😡
