Player Watch Brayden Maynard

Made some sense for the AFL to test the rules with their pending legal action, however it would have been much less sensible for them to appeal. Glad they didn’t appeal, now we can concentrate on the prelim

They were never going to. Their case was already proven to be incredibly flimsy, no need to embarrass themselves further just to try and prove they’re doing their duty of care.

If you were out to dinner and you heard the news, would you not have acted the same way? I certainly would have. And don't forget, Eddie is only a supporter now.
Absolutely not.

I would have been quietly pleased with the outcome, but sensitive of the fact that a player is still recovering from concussion and that we wish him well.

The way Wrighty presented himself to the media was excellent. Class personified.

Eddie’s antics are just embarrassing nowadays despite all the good he did particularly in the early years of his presidency. Thank goodness we’ve moved on and we have smart operators who are not interested in drawing unwanted attention to themselves.

Agree with this 100%. I love Ed and what he did for our club when it was on its knees, but he’s never been able to restrain himself in regards to cringeworthy behaviour on sensitive issues.
If he was still president that celebration last night would have been a monumental embarrassment for the club. Instead he just embarrassed himself as an individual while the club kept its head low and wished all the best to Angus in his recovery.
100%. Ed is now just a famous Pies nuffie with no association with the club. Fair chance he’ll crow about it on FC tonight. (Hoping he doesn’t personally)

I don't know what the issue is. Most people knew from day one Maynard was going to be cleared. Even Kane Cornes, who is the biggest Collingwood hater in the media, was adamant Maynard is innocent and should be cleared. You can't get a bigger endorsement than that.
Really? Kane Cornes has the best bullshitometer in the league and as a result he calls it as he sees it. The only time he’s got it clearly wrong because of bias was the lack of criticism toward the JHF long term deal.

I think we’re much more likely to see an apology for his behaviour than him crowing about it.

Now Shaun Smith is calling Maynard “thug” and the verdict “disgusting”

I’m getting tired of the constant digs on either the player or the club and it’s becoming fast distasteful and disrespectful.

Time people like Smith, Schofield and H. Brayshaw etc started pulling what’s left of their heads in.
if we play them again in the GF, I can guarantee they will be after Maynard with no regard for the consequences, given any suspension will be in the following season.
And it will get ugly - but if they start anything, they better be prepared for for strident retaliation, because unlike Melb we have at least half dozen blokes more than happy to mix it up.

Has he admitted he was wrong?
Does he need to say it specifically? For me, accepting the tribunals outcome as the correct decision after he’s heard the evidence is enough. Sorry if it’s not for you.

What we're seeing at the moment is multiple layers of dishonesty.

People are dishonest about the nature of Maynard's actions, but they're also refusing to grapple with the fundamental nature of the game.

We've sped the game up, made it more athletic, put more players at every contest, and yet we think that head injuries can be eliminated from the game? That they should only be a thing of the past?

There seems to be a view that the game should now perfectly reflect our modern sensibilities. We hate head injuries, and so we should be able to reconstruct the game to reflect that abhorrence.

It is a terrible conceit and a horribly misguided notion.

That doesn't mean we give up on trying to make the game safer, but we also acknowledge in ourselves that the game we love is inherently dangerous and will always have a capacity to harm.
It’s a dangerous and tough time for the game as this discussion that is occurring and will continue and rightly so will have future impacts to the younger generations and Parents decision about if they are comfortable with their kids playing football compared to say soccer.

Might have offered up a little fist pump but highly unlikely I’d be dancing on the table. By the same token, I’m not sitting in judgement on how others respond. To each their own.

Perfect. Bruzzy can look after himself just fine. Meanwhile we'll bang 9 goals on the board and the flags ours. Theres zero chance they get further than a prelim anyway. They've deflected nicely this week about how totally shithouse their forward set up is

And you forget Eddie’s ego is so unbelievably inflated that he would obviously do something as cringeworthy as they

Going after Maynard would be like Essendon targeting Jonathan Brown in the 2001 grand final. Would be stupid wouldn't it?

The behaviour of Melbourne FC is consistent with a club which is hugely disappointed with its own performance. Another flag is slipping away, despite their talented list, and in desperation they are hitting out. If it wasn’t Bruzzy and Brayshaw, it would be something else. I don’t recall a coach commenting in this depth on a reported incident before, and Goodwin did it more than once and not just in the emotional aftermath of a loss where such behaviour is at least understandable.
Goodwin should get a please explain from the AFL for trying to prejudice a tribunal case, but the AFL haven't got the guts.

Nothing to worry about, given they won't last that long

Although clearly not the view of all supporters, however Already saw a few comments from Melbourne Board saying this exact thing. They want someone to go and take out bruzzy and it doesn’t matter as it’s GF and the penalty will be well worth it. I thought it was pretty cute they thought that anyone of their piss weak players could even get close to him!

You (i assume) and i are not media personalities, where every move is recorded and is posted on sites because it is of interest to people. It is because of his position that he should know better that to bait and make stupid comments. He has form unfortunately, It doesn't serve him well. Even lesss for Collingwood, because he is still considered a representative of CFC by all, regardless if we keep claiming he has nothing to do with CFC and he is just a supporter

If you or i did that, nobody would see it, let alone care. Even if you did post it, it probably wouldn't go further than an anonymous BF poster being cringe-worthy.

If Koshy did this in similar circumstances, what would you think?
If Koshy did the same, it wouldn't worry me in the slightest. In fact, I probably wouldn't know about it anyway, because the media coverage would be sparse at a guess.

JDG was pilloried by many for his Bali 'act' with the girl but there were many more frustrated that it was video'd (by someone he knew) and ended up on Instagram (social media).

Same applies here for Eduardo. Expect the first part of it but heavens to betsy, why in the heck would you allow it to be recorded (d.thomas?) and put up on social media.

Are you saying Bruzzy wouldn't be terrified at the thought of Bayely Fritch or Alex Neale Bullen giving him a gentle slap on the arm and an angry stare?
