Agree and sounds like it wasn’t raised correctly. IMO, they would have been asking why has it taken CFC 31 years to be successful, when other clubs have had multiple runs in these decades?

Why is a democracy necessarily a good thing when it comes to who leads the club? Have you met the average supporter?

What is stopping people nominating and the members voting for board members though?

Personally, I don’t believe board members should be onboarded without members voting.
I also think presidents should be voted by the board. That’s my personal opinion.
I do however disagree with potting ‘average supporters’. Very disrespectful.

IMO, the biggest and most important question that needs to be answered by the board is, why members no longer vote for board members/presidents. A very undemocratic process.

Any carlton member can run for the board if there is a vacancy and applications have been called for.

There is an independent committee that reviews all nominations- in theory to ensure that applicants have the "correct " skillset and to weed out the likes of Starchamber.

From memory the last board election was in 2020 when five candidates ran for the three positions. The retiring three board members (including Chris Judd) were re-elected.

Pretty sure that there were 2 board members who had finished their terms re-elected last night (Williams & Kinnersley) unopposed. This meant that nobody had done through the process to challenge them.

Clearly the board like to "cherry pick" candidates with skillsets that are advantageous to running a multi multi million dollar business and wherever they can they will try and ensure that the sitting incumbent remains.

However every year board members terms will expire. From memory all it takes is an application form from an eligible member co-signed by three other members to start the ball rolling.

I agree with this as a concept, but there's no reason to lock rank and file members out of the process entirely. You effectively have a board going unchecked at the moment.

The "professional" component of this statement is pretty critical to integrity of the process.This is true when you consider the previous president is an accused corporate criminal who has been replaced by another who turned on his co-conspirators in exchange for immunity in another white-collar crime.

If the process delivered the quality of candidates required, then it is warranted. It is very hard to argue that the expunging of democracy has been beneficial to Carlton. It is as if incumbent board would be threatened if the members through any of the following types into the mix Andy Maher, Terry Degani, Sam Pang, Paul Bastiani. It is somewhat hypocritical that a board which preaches diversity, denies the use of the process that best provides it- Democracy

I reckon he is a big part of the problem. Shocking leadership firstly to do what he did and then even worse the way he ran and hid from the scrutiny. What sort of example is that to the players? Then just to rub salt in the wounds the Board effectively recruits his replacement.

The board IMO may be our biggest problem. The Carlton board of the past were run by factions and self interest too but at least prior to last ten years it was with a view to winning. Now it’s a just a platform for self promotion.

This current crew are all about themselves. Sayers stepped up to garner public support during the PWC saga. Priestley is also engaging in some reputation washing. Kinnersley has done nothing more than use the privilege as a platform for her equality crusade.
