thought it might be interesting to nail some colours to the mast.

of those highly contentious players on the fringes, it is certain that one or two will surprise. who they are, is a little harder to predict.

who is the player you think will establish themselves, that no one else thinks has a chance? the really unpopular pick, that your gut says will make it?
For me. Hayden Skipworth

and in turn who is the guy you think will have a played a couple of games and still be on the list next year, despite what everyone says?

For me. Matthew Smith

now the thing is there is no point saying Bock, as he played 18 games. he qualifies if we asked this question last year.

who is it, who is your controversial picks.

Ps. I think Mattner will be a regular this year ;)

1. Hayden Skipworth - adds more value than some suggest especially as a small crumbing forward. He always look busy and I like that.
2. Jacob Schuback - Had no pre-season to speak of and I expect him to get a handful of games towards the end of the year and stay on the list :)

I'll go along with Skippy - he;s half a chance to make it IMO. He's shown something.

As for the retained dud, I'll be majorly annoyed if Smith survives unless there's a sharp improvement this year over previous years.

Mattner should consolidate a spot this year as should Hudson.

Skippy, ever since his few good games last year I've been a pretty big fan.
As for the second one, no idea here.

1. Ladhams (this dude has huge potential, time to reach it)
2. S. Stevens (a handy, tall player but behind too many others to get many games, but still handy enough to retain for 06)

note: if M.Smith isnt #1. (the big improver), he should be ineligable for #2 (retained), in other words flicked.

1. Mattner- i've been a big fan of his since hi debut
2. Massie- I think he has still alot to offer if he gets his opportunities, he hasn't been that bad.

1. Fergal Sharkey. Despite injury and a 'softly, softly' approach, I expect him to have a big impact in rounds 12-22 this year. Will surprise many.

2. Josh Kreuger. Probably won't play a game this year but something tells me that they will keep him around without any justifiable reason.

3. Surprise delisting - Jason Torney. I reckon he will play good footy this year and still get the a$$.

not sure who qualifies for the 2 categories but:

Cat 1. Biglands/Skippy

Cat 2. Schuback/Krueger

(i would hope Freddy retains his listing for 2006 anyway because players of his size & talent dont come around too often - and in AFC's case extremely rarely :D )

Ladhams and Schuback

....when in doubt I've gone for the 2 guys who I think have the most raw talent. I'm a big Marty Man...although I think good judgement is being replaced by hope ATM. I'll stay on the Marty Mattner bandwagon for 1 more year.

I really hope Shirley can do something. He has some good second tier qualities that others don't....

Hudson hasn't been a surprise for me, i saw what he could do at North last year.
Interesting to see the early predictions after the halfway mark, Skippy was mentioned a fair bit and hes played most games (if not all?)

dont know if skippy can qualify, he will make it now, if he hasnt already. NC loves him, like doughty. The problem will be when Roo and Co retire that guys like skippy will just be players and wont be able to fill the role that our champs leave. But in terms of the medium to short term, i'd say hes fairly comfortable with his spot. Better off playing knights and VB with far more scope imo, but NC is the coach ;)

this may sound stupid and like jack is bragging, but at the start of the yr i had little doubt that hudson would be our number 1. I think i may have even said it in a thread or two. You can tell some players have got it and when he was willing to get down and dirty from day 1 you thought that biglands was going to struggle to get his spot back. The day that did it for me, if anyone remembers, was against the hawks last yr at the MCG and i think biglands was out and it was clarke and huddo against spider. Anyway clarkey got first crack and we were getting smashed, and hudson came in and started pushing him around and not letting him get his body in front and he actually beat him. We then won the clearances and it really turned the game for us, we ended up smashing them.
