Not sure what will happen, but I will be bitterly disappointed if we sack Bolton, particularly if we do it before the end of the season.

It's a controversial opinion but I'd re-sign him.

I'm not convinced he's the right man for the job going forward, but I'm also not yet convinced he's not. And given the hand he has been dealt, I'm not sure anyone could be right now.
A coaches position is untenable when they lose the players.

Players only meetings and the way Cripps was looking at him suggest exactly that, he no longer has the faith of the players.

He has to go

It's hard, I think generally the prevailing common sense is that he is a good guy, has clearly thrown the kitchen sink at the task at hand, but what we are now seeing is significant cracks opening up around shortfalls in player development game day strategy and cohesion as a confident playing unit. You can have all the best intentions in the world and be the best guy going around but unfortunately those are not negotiables that are only going to be ironed out by what looks like a different approach / coach/es. Don't know who but pretty disappointing it came to this. I think in hindsight he was always going to be up against it with out an experienced support group around him.

People saying that a coach has lost the players is just not right, I doubt they’re that unprofessional.

I hated my last boss, she was a narcissistic, manipulative bully but I still turned up and gave 100% to my students every day. I wasn’t there for her, I was there for my class.

If our players can’t be there for the club or the supporters then what kind of professionals are they?

When you have a player meeting that has coaches kicked out and then go on to serve up the following 2 weeks of garbage (vs Stkilda & Essendon)......its pretty clear what the discussion was within that meeting.

I’ve been a huge fan of Bolton and what he brought to the club from a man-management and cultural perspective, and believe has made a significant positive contribution to the club.

However as with everybody, we all have certain strengths and weaknesses and unfortunately for Bolton it has become abundantly clear, especially in the past few weeks, that he lacks the strategic and or communication nous to be a top level coach.

Our structures have regressed, our players look confused out there and there appears to be little connection and understanding between the players. Sure some can be attributed to our youth, but I also think Bolton (and coaching panel) is accountable for a significant portion of it and the worst part is that it doesn’t look like we are learning from our mistake and that for me is the clincher.

I don't think we lose anything getting rid of him. But if we don't, and it's true re: the player revolt, it's going to make things a lot worse. Getting in a new face, worst case scenario, we continue to play like this and nothing changes. Best case, we get someone tactically competent and the players get back confidence and have a more free reign.

What is the point of keeping him for the rest of the season when he'll be sacked anyway at the end of the year, and he knows it? Sorry, but I think re-signing him is lunacy. I've been sitting on the fence about this issue for a long time now, have been patient but after hearing that press conference, the baffling tactics and decisions, that infamous player meeting, Cripps arguing with Doc about the gameplan, etc I don't think he's the right man for the job. Gave him some leeway despite the W-L record but enough is enough.

That Line sums it up if we keep or not its a no win situation. And why Change is inevitable.

Seems like the decision has been made, just a matter of logistics.
An unfortunate situation all round, but the club will move forward, as it must.

Bolton has been well compensated for his time, there will be no feeling sorry for anyone.
Let’s hope that Barker isn’t given the job!

I really want Bolton to be successful. I still think even if he is gone that the problems in player development, positioning/tactics and having a ruthless hardness to success still exist.

I hope whomever comes in can turn that around. There's oodles of talent.

Amazing that between coaches if Barker care-takes yet again. How many times has the same caretaker been in the driver's seat between coaching appointments at the same club? Possibly none?

In my view the whole thing was about releasing Cripps from the tag. It didnt work. Simple as that.
That doesn't make any sense. Cripps always gets tagged, sometimes having three on him at time. Even when he's down, he works back into the game. You don't "release" a player like that from a tag by using him negatively.

He was up against a 2nd gamer ffs. Against a team that doesn't exactly have a strong, physical midfield... especially with no Shiel and Smith. By all logic, he should've smashed them, even with the lack of support. So that tells me there's something behind the scenes here.

If you're not convinced he's the right man why would you re-sign him? That makes no sense.

He's been given a tough hand no doubt, but i'm 100% sure certain other coaches would have us doing better than 1-10 right now.

Just trying to make some sense of things mate....no need to get annoyed.....yes things are bad. We all can agree on that.

It's very hard to keep making a case for Bolton when you watch Essendons captain run around all game racking up possessions without a player with 5 metres of him ....also seeing players guarding grass..while opposition players mark un opposed in their forward 50 . I have been a Bolton supporter from the very beggining, but after watching his match day tactics for the last couple of games i am starting to believe that he just doesn't have it on match day.

You and most of us i think.

Support for Bolton was still pretty strong after round 6 and after the Collingwood game.
We'd just taken it right up to Collingwood, and recently took it up to Hawthorn and thrashed the dogs.

But the last 3 weeks have been completely listless and our game plan and structures have looked atrocious. This is what's seen things turn against Bolton very quickly.

What is the point of having him coach out the year? The players don't believe in his ideas, motivation techniques or gameplan, it's plain for all to see when you watch us play. They don't respect him anymore.

Need a fresh start ASAP.

Exactly.

It will be interesting to see who coaches the remainder of the season though.

I think Barker is technically second in charge, but we outsiders certainly don't rate him and it will be telling if they give the reins to someone else other than him because he is the logical successor.

Players would hate to go from one coach they don't respect to another.
