Brent Macaffer out in the cold

Not many clubs would want him so the club whoch wants him (North) will think they can get him for free in the draft. Wouldnt suprise me if we were to get involved in another trade tommorow, suprise trade that hasnt been spoken about much.

Think Ben Davies from a few years back. North was his preferred destination so we traded him for a pick in the 70 or 90s from memory. Thats the sort of trade I expect to see.

I would be Dissapointed in that but I guess if there is no Other Takers we might as well do it in the last 30 Minutes

lol moments ago you said to delist him, so why would you be disappointed if you a pretty much doing exactly that but doing a token gesture to get him to another club?

Your looking at this the wrong way dave- we are not going to make out like bandits and receive serious compo for J-Mac if he is going.

I get the feeling it'll play out this way as well, however if given the choice I'd prefer a pick upgrade (even if it's as minimal as 3-5 in the second round).

With you there!

I think Essendon would be a good fit for McCarthy, wernt they looking for midfielders. GWS would also be a good fit.

Essendon would be a logical destination for McCarthy. He is exactly the sort of midfielder they need.

so does this mean we lose mccarthey and mccaffer for nothing?

Potentially. It could also mean they have both agreed to stay.

I think the most likely is Caff stays an jMac walks to a club via the draft, either national or pre season.

Is final list lodgement the 31st? We'll find out then who has walked/retired/delist etc. Leroy is a lock, Dick likely then who knows. Hopefully the club announces it soon and puts us (and the players) out of their misery.

Well it seems that there is a good chance McCarthy & Macaffer will walk to the drafts and we will receive nothing for them. On top of Anthony walking last year. Players have to move on to get opportunities.

Losing players for no compensation though is a bitter pill to swallow. Those guys mentioned are not great players but certainly have a fair bit more to offer than some of the guys who were traded for draft picks this trade period. Its not that it will have an immediate impact (other than our depth), but it can have a cumulative effect a couple of years down the track.

It means we fall back on rookie picks rather than draft picks to fill our list. Our rookie strike rate is great but in reality the chances of success are less than the draft.

I think clubs knew they were a good chance to be snapped up for nothing in the drafts so why pay a price? Still we could have arranged some sort of pick upgrade, something, anything rather than nothing.

Perhaps these guys will sign on for less money, but realistically if they are offered oppurtunities elsewhere for more money, you cannot expect them to stay.

I'm hoping for the following:

*Macaffer to re-sign
*McCarthy to be delisted (someone needs to be)
*Stubbs to be delisted
*Farmer to be delisted

With Leigh Brown retiring is three enough list changes?

Realistically if we need one more then I can see one of Sinclair, Rounds or J Thomas being delisted (I would delist one of these guys over McCarthy as well).

I'm really hoping that Dick stays on. I reckon he's one of the more talented young players on our list and much more of a chance to make it as a top twenty two player than the three I mentioned.

or if the rumour regarding leon on the other thread is true, then any cap issues are resolved maybe

Hopefully Caff stays- performance based incentives in his contract should be put into any new contract for him considering we are asking him to take less than his current deal and is a PREMIERSHIP player too!

Would rather delist Farmer and a few other fringe kids to keep the Caff.

I agree with everything you have said. :thumbsu:

I have a gut feeling they will delist Dick and then Rookie list him. They seem to really like him and I think they would love to give him another chance.

Mccarthy was need going to be a trade. Anyone who thinks better players have attracted trades are kidding themselves. He is a player who has shown no improvement in the 4 years at the club. This year he was fully fit and did not step up. GWS might take him because he will be handy in there first couple of years but I cannot see anyone else except maybe the suns considering him.

I wouldn't be suprised if the club still want Mccaffer and just hope he is prepared to stay on the minimum. I thought we could have got something for him but I doubt anyone would have given us anything before pick 50 so I dont think we are losing too much.

Ive said it before and I will say it again. The club have done a remarkable job to keep the list together this year in what is an inflated market for players.

We'll see what insiders truly think about these guys. If they are delisted be interesting to see if any of the glut of ex-pie assistants will be the clubs that pick them up

i hope he can stay with us on whatever we can allow in the cap, and compensate him in 2013 on what he will miss out on next year. given that Leon, Johnson will be retiring soon

in a way i wouldve rather the club play an increase to Maccaffer instead of Toovey. Toovey is more replaceable compare to Maccaffer.

My take is that the guys without contracts were the ones we looked at trading, the offers were either not there or not good enough and now we go back to the table for the ones we want to keep. I suspect McCarthy will be delisted. I am sure Macaffer can be accomodated on a 2 year deal. Ditto Goldsack who I think is still uncontracted. Dick might be in trouble but the suggestion of rookie listing him has a lot of merit IMO. Problem is he might be snapped up by someone else. We probably have to take that risk though.

We have to deist a few and if Hine & co have their eyes on a few players there will e a few under pressure as people have discussed in the various threads. For mine Buckley is the one with experience and therefore salary we can do without. I just don't see a need for the depth he provides with Clark coming onto the list an Toovey re signed. I'd keep Goldsack way ahead of Buckley and we still have Johnson and a few kids pushing through.
