Brent Macaffer out in the cold

I would hate to lose Macaffer, (IMO one of the best overhead marks in the league for his size) surely if it is a cap issue, we can delist some players. For example the other Mac and Dick. This would free up some money.
I don't want another Heath Scotland situation.

Mate, it's fantasy land if you think we are taking Graham- even if you pay his contact for a lifetime.

IMO, we will most likely resign and retain Macaffer.

Oh Graham is not the same as Wood- Wood is much better.

Graham is ordinary but still beat Wood in the ruck when they played against each other.

I'd say they'd both be on similar money to what Macaffer is now considering where all 3 have come from. That'd leave us still under pressure that a draft pick wouldn't.

I guess I see it like this. With how the cap is currently going we're probably around a 60% chance of signing everyone next year (that we're desperate to keep). If we lose Macaffer for nothing or a draft pick that would probably leave us at a 75-80% chance (losing Tooves as well would make it around 90%) of keeping everyone. Because its basically another $200,000-250,000 to share amongst Reid, Cloke, Pendles, O'Brien and co next year.

So the question is, would you prefer Currie/ Lane or a much improved chance at keeping everyone next year? I'd personally go the latter.

Note: In and of themselves I'd consider Lane or Currie ok replacements for Caff if it did happen to go that way.

Were the Pies been Intrested in Currie before?

An early Round 2 selection is a minimum for Macaffer.
We will be lucky to get an early 3rd round selection for him.

Like I said in the other thread, Collingwood supporters tend to over rate the worth of our players where as the rest of the completion generally rate them with their true value

Why has Currie's name been thrown up here every year since 2007? I mean, I get that he's tall and all that, but does he have something special that only the Collingwood board on BigFooty can see? It doesn't seem like he's really beating the door down for selection, and yet people keep trying to think up a trade for him. Is his form that brilliant in the Sydney league?

Whatever anyone thinks of the ability of our ruckmen, we should have 4 of them on our list next year, and that is ample for the senior list.

The way he's going that guy will be eligible for the Swans veteran list before he even gets a game.

The thing with Currie is, Mumford will one day be the best ruckman in the comp, his chances are always going to be limited.

He played exceptionally well in the NEAFL, actually won the comps BF

BJ, that is the same for every single club and if BF is any guide, our players are severely underrated and draft picks, whatever pick, are the greatest things around.

Have a look through some of the history on the drafts and trading board.

To a degree BP I think you are right and perhaps I went a little too far by restricting my comments to Collingwood supports, although I genuinely think we rate our fringe players far higher than most.
With JMac, Tooves and Caff none of them will attract a second round pick, although I would be ecstatic if we got that for anyone of them.
I think if we bundled them all together a 2nd round pick is certainly do-able

Currie has shown he could a Good KPF

When has he done this in the zero AFL games that he's played after having spent 5 seasons on Sydney's list (drafted 06)? As I said he'd be an OK replacement for Macaffer. I may have a different view of what ok is to everyone else, but I'd view it as being a fair way off what I'd consider a good result.

TBH the only reason its ok is because he's tall and for some reason a tall of unknown ability is worth more in the AFL than a medium who's ability is quantifiable!

Agree, the Swans in recent years have been looking for key forwards and this guy still doesn't get a game.

Mumford may be in the top 5 or 10 ruckman but will never be ahead of Cox (when he is still playing), Nic Nat, Goldstein, Sandi.

I take it you didn't watch the him after he returned from injury in round 16 this season? Mumford was far and away the best ruckman in the league in that time. For proof just have a look at the absolute demolition job's he did of Geelong, St Kilda and the Bulldogs.

In the match against the Cats he went one out against Ottens and West yet managed to come out the other end with 22 possessions (15 of them contested), 4 marks (2 of them contested), 7 tackles, 9 clearances, 3 inside 50's and 39 hit-outs!

If I was given the choice at the start of trade week of any player in the league for Collingwood to get for free it would have been Mumford. He is exactly the type of player we haven't had since Monkhurst and if I could choose one player for Witts to model his game off of it would be him!

Everyclub makes mistakes and we have just made a big one. Just hope it doesnt affect us winning the flag next year. Dont know why we would wanna keep a bloke that shopped himself around. Shattard!
