Looks pretty bloody obvious to me!!!!

Adelaide 14.10 [94] dftd Geelong [92]

Incidently I never called YOU personally a numpty,it must just be your conscience, but hey, if the cap fits.....
That's actually quite embarrassing for you. That means the numpties are 9-7, our way. Sack the selectors. You may not have personally called me a numptie but considering I've been one of the most critical of the selectors it's not hard to put two and two together who you were having an ill-informed crack at.

As distinct from..
Collingwood 17.9 [111] dftd Adelaide 12.12 [84]

Results from individual games prove less than nothing.

My original comment referred to the posters that suggested all was lost at the selection table even before the Geelong vs Adelaide match was played .

For the record IMO and I stress IMO only, our results this season reflect more on the match day intensity across our collective playing group and to a lesser extent the individual form or moreso the lack thereof by several of our key players i.e. Sam Jacobs......certainly more than individual player selection anyhow.

Haha, the embarassing thing is you actually believe this, talk about an inflated ego....

Perhaps you could bump the posts which claim we would lose because of our selections. I believe we all thought we would lose because Geelong are a top 4 team and we have been struggling.

And I love how you have all bases covered. We lose, it has nothing to do with the selectors but the players intensity.
Crows win, it's not an increase in intensity, the selectors got it right and showed us up.

Actually the embarrassing thing is you don't have an opinion that disagrees with the club. It's called not having a mind of your own, bah bah.

But that's not what I said or was replying to.

I'm querying your claim it was a good deal at the time, and I think that's hard to sustain if we don't know what he's being paid
It's as good a deal today as the day it was signed. Without knowing the $$ on offer, that's the best answer I can give.

Which doesn't mean it was a good deal when it was signed.

Besides players do get injured more often as they get older, that shouldn't totally be disregarded
I doubt age had anything to do with his shoulder injury - and it's not as if he's ever had any other ongoing problems (eg McLeod's knees).

There's nothing to suggest that signing him early was a bad move.

Don't take Bicks too seriously, still waiting for examples of the selectors proving us numpties wrong.

Reilly was worked out before his injury leading to his dropping. He's too slow and not a natural defender if he's not playing loose. What his injury has done is give Hendo an opportunity to play that role and so far so good plus he has pace. If Hendo continues his form Reilly has lost his spot in defence and we are stuck with a 30 year old player for 2 years who has no where else to play.

We signed him too early, would we have given him 2 years after his form slump? You'd hope not.

We gave him 2 years in the middle of the slump, so why not. Surely he's cheap though, we can't be that incompetent. can we?

Except him getting dropped the week before getting injured.

We signed him with memories of AA squad selection fresh instead of the more relevant Sturt FC squad selection.

Assuming he's veteran list eligible, i wonder if that came into it?
Take 100k off whatever he's making and that's 1 list spot in 40 that would be costing relatively little.

It was the right decision then and he won't be traded - his name won't even be mentioned during trade week.

It was the wrong decision when it was made, it's the wrong decision now, and the failure to consider trading him is a mistake as well.

How'd Laird, Lyons, Grigg and Lynch go??

Reilly aside it's bad club culture if you do not re-sign an otherwise required player solely due to injury. Injury is a work-place hazzard for AFL players. Looking after your players is the way you keep them.

Besides, a player can get injured at anytime. What if for instance we signed him in August but he got injured in round 22? Then his injury would have him miss a significant part of next year too. Would that be a premature signing?

Anyway I posted because in the interview it sounded like he had been working with Milburn and the defensive players etc and wondered if anyone heard more because I was interested in this aspect.

I guess that is the thing people are asking themselves, was he really a required player.
Hendo has come in and blitzed it down in Reilly's role after Reilly had been stinkin it up down there.
Jason Torney would love to be playing for us now

Specifically in the case of Rielly, if "almost" AA form is not rewarded with a new contract the following year, what sort of message does it send the olaying group?

It pretty much says "We don't trust you and don't back you in". It's one thing for fans to be saying this, but if a modicum of loyalty and respect is not shown to the players how do we expect them (as a group) to show loyalty back when it comes time to sign players we really really need.

Thats is what I was asking earlier in another thread, if that is the case, why isn't Thommo signed or Porps who are both in the leadership group.
I don't think they have signed yet, but people would say they are some of our most important players ?

That is a question only Porps and Thommo can answer.

I'd imagine we'd want to sign Porps. But early in the year his ulcers were quite debilitating, I wouldn't mind betting the club and he were taking a wait and see approach.

If there is a contract extension clause in Thommo's current contract then I doubt he or the club are concerned. He may well want to see what offers he gets as a FA to top up his super though.....

I wonder what it says to the playing group when your coach says in January he wants to trade into the first and second round?

I'd be thinking, shit, I wonder which players will go?
F
We didn't re-sign Reilly because if we didn't it would send a bad message, we did it because we were seduced by his free willy football.

Surely what a coach offers up for a media sound bite is completely different to how he handles players day in, day out. And surely we are smart enough to be aware of this.

What do you expect a coach to say? "Yep we are screwed in the draft and there isn't much to look forward to. And oh, Trigg's is an idiot for getting us into this mess"

I get not trading Reilly, lad was saved by his near AA season last and that deserves a contract only to show we reward players who do well. I know i have no problem with this and i am equally happy if Reilly never wears the Tri-colours again because that also means he has been replaced.

I mean lets face it, he has nearly no value anyway.

I never had much time for Reilly but it was a smart move in signing him at the time. In hindsight a 1 year extension would have been the best move. I hope Hendo has found his niche and may be able to be part of our back 6 for years to come.
