Loved his attack on the footy against Geelong, really put his head over the ball on a number of occassions without any fear of his own safety. I would love him to keep that up, one of the toughest games I've seen him play. Played like an experienced player should with impressionable kids by his side.

Kudos from TD! :thumbsu:

Yeah I agree he has toughend up, but any good he might do is undone by his stupid mistakes, haven't seen a player kick into the man so many times than Stanton, calls for the ball when he shouldn't be, turns it over at critical times of the match and constantly puts his team mates under pressure.

We have pumped over 150 games into this bloke but he still makes the same old mistakes under pressure. I can't believe our young blokes had to show him how it's done when the heat was on in the last quarter vs Cats. He almost cost us the game.

What were your thoughts on Hibberd's game on Saturday night? Hardingham?

Yeah I agree with this mostly but as an experienced leader I would have liked to see him stand up at the end when the game was on the line.

Not having a go at him because he did play a really good game but more so would have loved him to have not messed up with the game on the line for his own confidence and to silence a few people.

There was a moment on the dying stages of the last quarter where Stants attacked a loose ball in our defensive fifty against the flow of play that will sit in my memory for a while. That was standing up when it counts. He was critical to us winning and I'll take his few mistakes for the positives he brings otherwise. Cannot question his commitment to the cause.

Glaring turn overs hasn't tarnish peoples opinions of their game?

I'm not gonna speak for anyone else but I expect young kids in their 10th game to make mistakes. It's all part of the learning curve.

I give them more latitude than experienced senior players making the same sort of mistakes.

I don't get the whole "people have a go at Stanton but won't have a go at Heppell for making the same mistakes", type mentality. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Once again not having a go at Stanton because I think he is a solid footballer but this is just my thoughts on the subject.

I appreciate your point Jimi, but it's just the two who stood out most from Saturday night. A couple of weeks ago, Fletcher and Watson would have been the two, for example.

My point is, some players have every mistake pointed out, others have them overlooked.

Loved the tackle on the wing when he dumped that Geelong player (can't remember who) on the wing, allowing another one of our players (again, can't remember) to get the ball. Good stuff, hope we see more of it.

Duncan, gave it to the Geelong flogs (mates :p ) sitting next to me. They were shitting on on all our players throwing in the now standard even we hate Stants while pumping their youth up before the game, so when he landed it damn I loved it!

Yep! :thumbsu: his brain fade in the dying moments that coughed up a goal not withstanding.

Please allow me to put my view of Stants into perspective: Stants never shirked and played a solid game. He felt really shitty after his last moments gaff and that was clearly shown on TV. BUT everyone makes mistakes - his was in the dying minutes that nearly gave me a heart attack.

He has been good all year minus a couple of games.
People will continue to blow up because he makes 2 or 3 errors but that is just what you get. It is too bad the good stuff which is always more than the bad stuff does not get mentioned.

I used to question him on hardness and defense, he has improved massively in those areas so i no longer have any real issue with him other than the fact that currently he is in our top 8 players when in reality he should be player 15 to 20 on a strong list.

Funny how no one mentions Jetta didn't take the shot on goal either. Kind of proves my point from before.

yep there were plenty of mistakes throughout the game & many had me shaking my head, however only one left me dumbfounded

as a Stants supporter I want & we need him in the side each week, but just imagine the fallout if the Cats had sneaked a win after that brain fade, I hate to think

It appears that he's starting to be pushed down the pecking order though, which is great.

Likewise with Slattery.

Love both players, but we'll be a pretty good side when those guys are no longer so heavily relied on.
We've "found" about 5 or 6 (Crameri, Melksham, Hardie, Hepp, Hibberd, Bellie) this year who could comfortably be in the 22 every week next year.

Pleasingly, a lot of them are in our weaker areas (smaller defenders, midfielders), too.

Plus Jetta & Reimers have kicked on a step as well.
Player wise, very solid year.

I know I am not sticking to the subject here, but Fletcher dropped a couple of glaring clangers, one which directly resulted in a goal. As I said above, everyone makes mistakes, so we won't tie anyone to a stake then light a fire under them. :p

I'm just so chuffed that we beat the top team. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Good to see he got over that form slump from a couple of weeks ago.

I sometimes fantasise about following the Stants knockers around for a week and booing them every time they make a mistake: "You're a grown man and you can't even prepare a bowl of cereal without spilling milk all aver the counter! Get out of the ****ing kitchen!!!"
