Brett Burton.

1 goal 6 behinds.
He could have kicked 7, he didn't.
He got his hands on the ball, because he was used as a target and the ball was kicked to him.

Fair enough a couple of those shots were at tough angles, but the rest were gimmies, Burton has no penetration to his kick, and he is shanking them. He is a forward and his job is to kick goals, if he isn't kicking goals then he is useless. Who cares how many marks of the year he takes or backflips he does. (Another question is why was he being used as a target?)

Now you must all be aware of my disdain for the Burton and the obvious overating of him by the club and fans alike, while being a moderate to good player (over his career), Burton is sometimes spoken about in the same sentence as Mcleod, Goodwin and Edwards, which is quite frankly insulting.

And yes, his total lack of consistency and the fact he has only played maybe 2.5 (.5 due to injury) really good seasons in his entire career.

All of this, all of it, totally, unequivocally pales in comparasion to the total selfish, insipid and disgusting effort at around the 10-11min mark of the 3rd quarter where he marked the ball about 30m out of goal with Patrick Dangerfield jumping, screaming for it all on his own for about 10 seconds in the goal square, while Burton, in true TOC (Turn over controller) fashion totally shanks it with the worst kick ever, killing momentum.

It was the straw that broke the camels back, and summed up the current squad, where some players like Graham Johncock and Patrick Dangerfield play as a team, while others play selfish football.

Goodbye Burton, hope you enjoy being President of the Players Association.

he is better off playing higher up, where Walker is playing. Only problem then is that i gives him the opportunity to **** it up in a more dangerous situation.

Better than players just not getting it though.

I've never been confident with bird man infront of goal, but who comes in. I'd like to see some Smack, Jaensch and even Hendo, but imagine how frustrating it would be to have 3 more players who can't yet execute a game plan.

Fair enough, he got the ball, but that is because it was being kicked to his chest, the other players were leading to good positions but they were being ignored. Burton was obviously being used as the Forward target, he completely failed in this regard as a goal kicker, he also at the same time brought no other player into the game.

Burton is playing ok at the moment except for his terrible kicking but it bemuses me that we are using him as THE MAN that our entire forward line structure is based around.

Surely he needs to be a support act now rather than our No. 1 go to player?

We always crap on about how fit Burton is and how he is always up with van Berlo on all our runs. Well how about we use some of this fitness and let him run around, sort of like Goodes is doing now with the Swans. Basically playing a pseudo-CHF role with a licence to run wherever he wants. Instead we have handed this up-the-ground role to Walker who is in no way comfortable with it.

Straight swap between Walker and Burton from this week onwards please.

Unfortunately it seems you need a PhD in mathematics to grasp the complexities of the game plan (may be an opening on the list for our own Commander)

Get him on the wing or left right out, no idea how to kick for goal from a set shot right now, simply stabs at it.

I agree ....those missed shots were heartbreaking.... if he would just stop jumping around like a ...Jeez ..I don't know what, and worry about taking any mark instead of mark of the year ...I could handle it. But sorry ...I put a fair bit of the blame for todays loss at his feet. Scoreboard pressure ...we haven't had any all year.

I agree with the swapping Tex for Burton. Hell put Burton in the back pocket for all I care, but just get Tex in the ********* forward line!!

Burton has always been one of those players who has the x factor. Can do the unbelievable, but has more games where he doesn't do jack - yet he is often talked about in the same breath as the big four. Why??

Burton has got one thing left AND THAT IS HIS MARK. heis legs are gone. He used to look fit and could run but his legs are shot. His kicking is off and is slow now also. Bring in Henderson to his position. Edwards also has to retire at year ens. Mcleod and Goodwin maybe to go around for one more as they dont look out of place and can retire all four at once.

Doughty , Jacky and Hentschell will also be gone. We need to start drafting mids and really badly and ones that are nippy and have superior leg speed. Every team has ten of these these days. we have about five.

OK Burton's old

what excuse does Tippett have - his misses in the last quarter were killers

and Burton was still our best forward sad to say

tippet's misses will be a learning experience for him. and he will be a better player for it. kurt knows where he needs to be as a footballer and he is working on that very hard at the football club.

but seriously, i held back from signing up to the facebook group "brett burton is probably the worst footballer, but he can take a fair hanger". dont think i can hold back for much longer. his days are numbered... but he'll keep playing as there is no one else.

Are people seriously suggesting playing Burton on a wing again? He has a fair engine still, but his legs won't carry him quick enough these days. He'd get murdered.

Burton is Burton, always has been. You take the good with the bad. But 1.6 is pretty bloody bad.

give me a break - he'll end up with a PhD in **** kicking

If he has tendonitis it could be restricting movement. He certainly didn't seem to kick through the ball today.
Tentative ... ????

I don't know. I don't want to rubbish anyone, really I don't but ...bloody hell.. that was just horrible. :(
