I think he needs to have a week or two off to get fit again. hasn't been his usual self, has spnet a lot of time on the bench and really struggled tonight.

i think we are better off giving a young guy a go like pfeiffer then playing an unfit burton who spends majority of the game on the bench

Yeah i realize, but i think when we are fielding 5 players with less then 10 games we have pretty much given up on the season and i'm not quite ready to do that yet.

I'd rather have a 100% fit youngster running around, than Brett Burton embarrassing himself at an output of 25%

I think when we’re fielding players who can’t even run we’re giving up on the season. What is worse, playing injured players that will take the team nowhere or playing youngsters who are enthusiastic and will run out a game hard?

So do we do a Port Adelaide 2006?

We're in a similar situation. Plenty of senior players either injured or on their last legs - terrific opportunity to blood more of the kids if persisting with half-fit senior players is going to be a bridge too far.

Not so much a tank, more list rationalisation.

Port have reaped the dividends of getting games into Pearce, Salopek, Pettigrew, Chaplin, Surjan and co - maybe we should begin doing the same above and beyond the number we're already being forced to go with.

Excellent post, couldn’t agree more dyertribe. :thumbsu:

take the teal glasses of dyertribe we are nothing like port 2005-6. Plenty of time is and already has been put into our youngsters. Neil knows what hes doing.

Burton is basically playing for the team atm and shouldnt be criticised v.much.
He’s averaging 11 possessions per game, pretty pathetic if you ask me. The guy can barely walk, he shouldn’t be playing and someone who can run out a game should be in his place.

Only if you take off the Ray-Bans.

yes he is clearly injured and is playing because we need him to, that was sort of the point. We have plenty of youngsters out there already.

So you believe that running an injury-prone player who is playing at 50% of his capabilities into the ground is better than giving Jericho one last chance to prove himself (why is he still on the list otherwise?) or getting games into Pfeiffer?

My point was that he’s not “taking one for the team” because he’s not even offering anything out there. You may think it’s courageous of him to be playing hurt, but he’s giving this football club nothing. Get a youngster out there who is 100% fit!

So because we have a few youngsters playing, that means we should play an injured, out of form Brett Burton.

He has been disgraceful this season, absolutely terrible. Needs at least 2 weeks off.

Luke Jericho is on the list to make the rest of our players look good by comparison. Brett was shithouse tonight, but his game resembled almost every game Jericho has played for us.
May as well bring Daz in though.

:D

Very true.

Make no mistake, I don't rate Jericho, but as far as a straight swap for that jekyll and hyde x-factor goes, Y2J would be the perfect switch for a halffit Birdman.

I actually thought Chris McDermott made a good point on 5AARGH tonight - said that Birdman never plays well injured and it's only a matter of time before he blows a hamstring at his current level of fitness.

If he blows a leg and needs a good 4-6 weeks on the sidelines with all the resultant hiccups and niggles rather than a week or two's rest, we'll be shot like Breaker Morant.

ah ok you are wrong then, hes gives us a target to go at. I imagine Neils main aim at this point is to get through this patch with a decent w/l ratio. Not throw the towel in like some of you are.

Get a youngster out there who is 100% fit!

We have plenty out there already this is not a case of playing under performing oldies at the expense of youth rather we are hit with injuries atm and we just want to get through it until we get our squad back.

oh an who out of our 26 man squad you would put in btw?

I don't see how having a bloke who can't run is helping us achieve this.

Who the heck is throwing in the towel? So because we want Burton rested/dropped we're throwing in the towel? That's a ridiculous thing to say. Playing a clearly unfit Burton and replacing him with Pfeiffer is anything but throwing in the towel.

Like Drummo needs to be asked!
:thumbsu: ;)
