Both very good midfielders, Deledio obviously more athletically gifted, but doesn't quite have the ability to control the midfield like Mitchell does.

Overall, who do you think is the better footballer?

They're pretty different players... I thought after Griff v Lids we'd have no more Deledio polls because they never end well.

I say Mitchell because he's a better player...but as I said before, what sort of poll is this?

So according to you, all polls should only compare players that are exactly alike?

Both are A-Graders and both are midfielders, that alone makes it worthy of a thread. People like you need to quit whinging about every single poll that doesn't compare players of the exact same ilk.

Apples vs Stepladders. Which one would you rather marry?

Both are seriously overrated.

I'd take Deledio but only because he doesn't have any exposed form in stinking it up in big finals games.
Don't troll here.

It's an odd thread because one player has won 4 B&F's, Captained a Premiership, and been very close to winning the Brownlow twice, while the other has won 2 B&F's. They are at different ends of the spectrum in regards to what they've achieve, plus they play completely different roles.

And I'm a Deledio fan, having watched him grow up around my old footy club, and being coached by his old man.

Great poll IMO. It's easy to pick between two similiar players, this one really gets you thinking. Tough one to answer, I'd probably go Deledio by a hair.

At the same age (so Mitchell in 2007) their honours are pretty comparable. 1 B&F vs 2 B&F's.
Mitchell did finish 3rd in the Brownlow that year however.

Brett Deledio is a much better Utility, having played in a variety of roles in his career so far... Sam Mitchell however is a better midfielder. At the moment Mitchell is the better footballer and has had a better career to date.

It depends on what hype you buy into. Deledio is probably more skillful, but I'd rather Mitchell. He's had to work harder so you'll always get 100% but along with that he's also pretty good. He's got a bit of 70's and 80's Hawthorn about him - hard, tough, does his job, doesn't worry about getting on the social pages of the local rags (minus Brereton), and finishes a game the way he started it. The sort of thing that North supporters respect.

Very different players, one is much better inside and with his hands, the other is far quicker and better overhead. Mitchell has achieved more so far, and careers to date you'd have to say he's been better, but I still think it might come down to what a particular side needed. Ie a team with a strong inside core lacking outside pace and run would look at Deledio, a team needing a bottom of the pack distributor/ clearance player would look at Mitchell. Voted Mitchell but both stars and thrilled to have Deledio.

I would argue that it takes PLENTY of skill to do what Sam does, often described as the best by hand since Greg Williams. Sam's vision and ability to time a pass to a teammate in space on both left and right (handball and kick) is almost without peer (Simon Black). Deledio is athletically talented which is exactly what Sam doesn't have.

I would say that Inside guns are harder to find than outside guns therefore + Bias = Mitchell

Silly poll, both are very handy, both supporters wouldn't trade one for the other. I would say we are both happy with who we have.

Exactly I don't mind comparing players whether they be runners or ball winners but the age gap makes it tricky.
Mitchells last 2 years have arguably been his best, Deledio might be similar and improve every season.

Mitchell but only cause he has the runs on the board and I'm a Hawks fan.
