Brett Johnson has joined the Geelong Cats as Performance and Development Manager.

Johnson has extensive experience in leadership roles within football, most recently spending eight years at the AFLPA as General Manager of Player Development.

Johnson will lead and support the player development strategy across men’s and women’s football programs as well as co-ordinate the delivery of programs across medical, fitness, coaching and player development. Johnson will also work closely with key external stakeholders at Deakin University, the AFL, AFLPA and AFLCA.

Who is vetting the resumes down at the club.

Ctrl + f and Hawthorn and any hits it should go in the bin.

Does that mean we shouldn't have recruited a guy by the name of Ablett? ;)

I'd be interested in anyone who worked there between 2008-2015. Being involved in 4 premierships I would have thought might be a positive.
If we can ever get their physio he is a genius but I know he won’t leave Melbourne.

Or Ling. Didn't he play a few VFL games with the Hawks before he was drafted?

sacked mid season. someone stuffed up with that recruitment.
Probably just didn't get on with Lloyd.
Or maybe a misunderstanding as to their respective roles; which wouldn't surprise, given the utter gobbledegook description in the Johnson announcement.
Whatever he does, Poulton got another part-time gig doing it again at GCS.

Well there were a number of issues with player programs which were different to what some players had had before. So they were meant to be revolutionary but in fact they just resulted in injuries not experienced by certain players such as Paddy, so boom he’s gone. Players complained I understand so that ended it.

Not sure if it's been already said, Johnson was a physiotherapist.

This is from his LinkedIn profile:
"We all know the career of an athlete is brief; so it is vital that the paths we create for our athletes encourage not only maximum opportunity during their sporting career, but set them up for success for the years ahead. As a former professional athlete, I bring a lived experience of this dynamic to my role as Geelong FC’s Performance & Development Manager.

A key part of my role focuses on external stakeholder engagement, advocacy and relationship management. I network regularly and welcome new connections within the business community."

Fred, what would you like them to say? I have to say its pretty clear what it is he’s doing.

But just for the sake of it, he is managing the fitness program initiatives across the club including the sports science group whilst liaising cooperatively as per agreement with the other bodies where the teams data is used; for clarity they upload team data to the AFL, AFLPA and the AFLCA just like other industries so it can be used to compare and contrast an individuals performance.

Just to also partially answer previous query, the titles of each role will most likely be different as its difficult to sack people these days so they restructure and make redundant to get people out.
