For me I was a 'stay' person and now that the UK has voted for independence it's going to be an interesting two years.

Having worked in the UK for the last two years at several pubs the majority of our kitchen staff were very hard working Polish. Good luck convincing the entitled voters who just won their independence to be prepared to work back of house in a pub in two years time to keep the venue operating. /endrant

It's certainly something the anti-immigration lot never think about. Most of the jobs immigrants "steal" are the ones they wouldn't want to do anyway.

Interesting times ahead.

Have an English Mrs so this is going to make interesting times for us.

Not all leave voters are from the "They're stealing our jobs" lot but those who are in for a rude shock.

Being an IT trained Australia it's probably gonna make my life easier, but the big picture I think is going to hurt Britain.

Seeing that smarmy campaigner Nigel Farage and his gaping wide smile only rubs salt into the wound.

The U.K. was never completely committed to Europe anyway.

Sure, they signed the Maastricht Treaty, but it was a half arsed attempt at integrating within Europe.

Their imperial exceptionalist roots, characteristic of an Empire, with this "we can do everything ourselves" mentality, have been brought forth once again.

There's one problem with that: they aren't an empire. They're a medium sized island nation masquerading as something much more.

Self inflicted wounds all round.

David Cameron has resigned and fair enough.

They'll need a "leave" proponent to stand in front of the metric tonne of shit that is going to land on the UK in the coming months. Thrilling to explain to the anti-immigrant mob why nothing is going to change for years.

I was thinking of past Australian significant events that could use this word blending that's so popular now days. Instead of 'Federation' we could of had 'Consolistate'. Where were the marketing strategists back then?

The next couple of years in UK...

I'm not across the implications of this move at all, but all my pommy friends on facebook are taking it badly.
My rellies are mainly pro leave but a couple wanted to stay.
Obviously a complex situation but they feel they will be better off in the long run. Will probably see a domino effect as there is talk of a couple of Scandinavian countries following suit

Planning to move to London next year with the missus and work as a supply teacher. This makes things interesting, particularly with me wanting to go over with an Italian passport to save money on the hefty Visa fees.

I voted Leave. I regret nothing.

If the UK was fully committed to the EU they wouldd have given up the pound. They have always had one foot in and one foot out.

To be honest I don't think a lot is going to change. Yes the market will bounce around a bit due to the uncertainty but I can't see it being another GFC as predicted. The UK economy is structurally sound.

Businesses aren't suddenly going to stop trading with the UK. Would be shooting themselves in the foot. Yes new trade deals have to be worked out but there is 2 years to get that done.

I just think the EU is an unelected bureaucratic gravy train who only cares about self-interest and increasing their powers.

And I think all countries should be able to control their borders. Britain is the holy grail of migrants coming to Europe. You only have to look at the Calais camp and the lengths people go to to get here to know that. Yes it's good to have free movement within the EU but the thing is it's not a two-way street. More people want to come to the UK than any other EU country. There are 800k Polish in the UK at the moment. (I have more Polish friends here than English so I have nothing against them whatsoever.) Do you think there is 800k Brits in Poland? The traffic is one way and looking at the NHS, housing etc the UK can't cope with 300k more people every year. These people are usually the best and brightest as well so it also levaes the countries like Poland weaker.

Having a Aus points based system allows the UK to choose who they want to let in.. This isn't stopping immigration and it wont be diminishing the UK's humanitarian intake. Also as an Aussie I have less rights in the UK than someone from the EU eventhough the Queen is our Head of State. I don't think that is right.

I think more countries in the EU are going to go the same way. I think borders are going to be tighter not freer in the future.

I await your wrath.
