Its utterly ridiculous that people here believe (or claim to believe) that Geelong received the government money due to the past premiers being supporters. It has nothing to do with the fact that they support the club and everything to do with the fact that many of the seats are situated in the greater Geelong community are marginal. Hows the best way for government to try and win these seats? Promise large injections of cash into community projects. None make the news more so than an upgrade of a stadium. This is also the reason the Federal gov. threw money in and would've thrown far more had AUS won the 2018 world cup and why John Brumby (Collingwood supporter) pledged money to the stadium as well.

Yeah.

Anyway, the point would probably be that either being the premier's team or situated in a marginal seat may not necessarily be the strongest foundation for building a high horse on.

Still makes the club look like f***ing muppets

Why do you give two ****s about what outsiders think?

I couldn't care less about impressing them. They're doormats to me.

Agree that James should just STFU about these matters in public though. It's no one elses business.

So we pursued one of the best in the business but ultimately he decided he wants to stay? Fail to see why we should be worried/concerned. I'm glad we're going after the best ($1 million is a hell of a lot of money though), the search continues. Feel sorry for Vale at this time though.

Also some of the stuff some Geelong supporters have been spouting about our cub is rubbish, the amount of shit they've heaped our way (26geelongcrazy or whatever I'm looking at you) since trade week has been downright disrespectful. If you have a problem with the way some North supporters are talking on your board then take it up with the individuals over there don't litter our threads with the exact same thing you are complaining about.

Yet you are all over this site carrying on like a pork chop

Not saying where not lucky to be in that situation, but thats what a good CEO will do.....Make the most of what you have and milk it for all its worth. Anything less is negligent.

Lots of your supporters on this board were doing this all week on our board, don't condone it but can understand why it's happening here.

Thank hard to beat and DOS for what happening.

Fwiw I'm surprised they didn't gt carded.
Maybe because they did nothing wrong.

Disagree.

We said we'd look for the best possible replacement when Arocca left. Most peoplke regard Cook as the best. We had a crack, he gave it serious thought, then stayed put. What harm is done?

Even if we stick with Vale, we'll pay him less than we would have paid Cook, while Vale gets a long-term chance to prove himself.

I love that we're being talked down to on our board.

You should have been over our way before he decided to stay. Deja vu....

Plenty of chippy North posts about how Cook was gone.

The upside for North is that they presented the best CEO in the business a very attractive offer and nearly got him. Means that there is potential in the place going forward and im sure you will have success - just not with Brian Cook right now.

One thing beyond your control that even Vlad couldn't touch was the fact that Cook was in charge when Bomber left.. under contract. Cook is a man of his word and breaking the current contract after dealing with Bomber doing it might have just been too much - irrespective of the bag of $$ being thrown at him.

Please keep your romance writing for the Geelong board.

Hasn't this bloke been at the helm when a club captain, Brownlow Medallist and premiership coach have all walked out on the club?

Get back to me when he saves your club from relocation, builds a completely new facility and increases your membership by 35% whilst undertaking a complete rebuild.

I might be impressed then.
Just getting back to you.

When Cook first came onboard there were serious talks about Geelong playing all home games at the Dome which would have been as good as relocating the team.

How much did the new North facility cost $10 - 15million?
Cook so far has overseen a $137 million redevelopment of Kardina Park with stage 4 to come being valued at $110 million and the creation of a $10 million training facility which we got for free at Armstrong Creek.

When he took over at the end of 1999 our membership was at 21,000 last year it was 40,000 a 90 odd percent increase in membership

The team is now going through its second rebuild under Cooks last year we had 10 first game players playing the second most in the AFL behind the GWS.

Place Cooks first 5 years against Norths last 5 years and he pales by comparison.

Geelong in Cooks first 5 years (2000 - 2004)

W/D/L = 55 /2/57
Membership = + 3989

North since relocation fightback (2008 - 2012)

W/D/L = 54 /1/56
Membership = + 11382

We'll have to see how we go with pilfering the public purse when we can get a couple of North loving premiers in to parliament.

Come back when our run is finished in 10 years time.

All part of why North tried to headhunt him and Geelong wanted to keep him. Can go in the "non-North thread" now, though, it's irrelevant to our club again, as it was before. We need a CEO who can be similarly successful managing and leading a club with very different strengths and challenges, and I'm sure we'll get a good one. Like "Get Bucks", these things matter a lot more at the time than they do in hindsight.

I'd like to see NM be the first AFL club to have a female CEO. We had a reputation for being progressive, so let's try something different.

Nah, no thanks.

We have already been "pussified" enough.

We need to add a more aggressive dynamic.
