What the actual ****?

NORTH Melbourne is on the verge of poaching Geelong's chief executive Brian Cook in what would be one of the AFL's biggest off-field coups.

It is understood the highly respected Cats administrator is warming towards a move to Arden St to take the vacant CEO's role.

The Kangaroos have been searching for a "big fish" to replace Eugene Arocca, who resigned on June 5.

The Kangaroos have been searching for a "big fish" to replace Eugene Arocca, who resigned on June 5.

They are becoming increasingly confident they can convince Cook to leave Geelong, a move that would shock the football world.

It is understood there are a number of issues to be resolved between Cook and the Kangaroos before a deal can be finalised.

It is not known whether North made the initial play for the man considered one of the AFL's most astute administrators, or whether Cook approached the club.

I'll say this bluntly, Cook has said endless piles of shit about 10 clubs in Melbourne cant work, etc etc.

He'd need to check all that shit at the door.
But I don't recall him saying that we would be one of the clubs to disappear.

This would a HUGE signing if we could land it. The bloke just does not know failure. Almost too good to be true.

Il be honest. I thought this thread was about Cooky having another crack at Melbourne clubs.
Was he not the one that said the toughest job in AFL was CEO of north Melbourne and laughed about it with Vlad?
Now he wants the job.
He's either up for the challenge, there's some dark behind the scenes work between AFL, Vlad and Cook or the article is bullshit.

Who cares he believes in where we are headed and this is confirmation that the AFL also do

Is this what you're alluding to, taz ?

GEELONG chief Brian Cook has flatly denied claims he was approached by the AFL to take over embattled North Melbourne Football Club.
It was reported yesterday that the AFL had sounded out the highly regarded Cook over the off-season to oversee administrative and board decisions at the Roos.

While the AFL and Cook strongly denied any official approach was made, it emerged yesterday that a light-hearted question about joining the Roos was put to Cook during a dinner at a Sydney restaurant.

The dinner at Icebergs in Bondi, on the eve of last year's AFL draft, was attended by a number of high-ranking AFL and club figures, including AFL boss Andrew Demetriou.

Demetriou yesterday said the remark was not a serious offer but rather a joke and insisted the AFL had not made a serious or secret play to get Cook to North.

"During the course of the evening, after a few drinks, we got stuck into Brian about ... how many more redevelopments has he got in him, and did he have another CEO stint in him at the end of Geelong?" Demetriou said on SEN.
"And he said, 'No, this is it for me'. We said, 'Come on, if the position came up at North Melbourne, would you be interested in it?'
"And that was the context of the conversation. Then we moved into the next topic of discussion."

Does give a weird quirk to the rumour.

Yeah, the guy is going to destroy his reputation to run the club into the ground under AFL orders, chuks.

He'd be put in to ensure ultimate success.

Would this put Buckley into the Geelong hotseat?

Never said anything of the sort. And to look at it like that shows incredible shortsightedness on your behalf.

It's a legitimate question that needs to be asked. Why is the AFL interfering in our search for a CEO?

Have never seen them do that at other bigger clubs like Collingwood. What's it there business to interfere in ours? And with their previous sinister history of meddling in our matters, why are you so happy to see them start doing it now?

This is the same administration that was happy to see us playing 7 games in Tasmania 2 years ago. Now looking to be lead by a CEO who has stated that 10 clubs in Melbourne is too much.

In actuality, if Cook could manufacture a North Melbourne relocation to Tasmania, after the failed 2007 attempt it would probably increase his reputation 10 fold in the football communities eyes. Not destroy it.

He is a good operator........but this just doesnt seem right. If its true he'll have to work hard to sell him coming to aegis as a good thing, members with memories will be apprehensive to say the least.

Signed a new 3 year deal at Geelong last year so would seem unlikely that he would break that.
The HUN ran a similar story to this mid year as well and Cook came out and shot it down interesting that they ran it again when he is out of the country unavailable for comment.

He has obviously been promised a fairly speedy passage through to Jolimont.

Wilson has her nose 10 feet up Geelongs arse, so how come there's no mention of this in the Fairfax fish and chip wrapper?

He wouldn't be going in as any hatchet man, as we could and would stop it anyway. That's one CT too far mate.
