It would be a massive coup if it happened
but it just doesn't seem plausible

plus - if we end up appointing someone else (i.e. Vale) then the story will be how we failed to lure Ben Buckley and Cook....

It just turns a fairly typical organisation-activity (recruiting a CEO) into a bit of a circus.

I truly hope we end up with Cook, but it does seem to be challenging.

Irrespective of what any posters might think on here, Harf interviewed Colin Carter on SEN just a short time ago. Carter is confident he will stay but said that they will not let the current contract stand in his way if he decides to go. I detected a note of resignation in his voice but then again I might have wanted to detect a note of resignation in his voice.

Why would North have to pay out his contract with Geelong???

Thats what a contract actually is and is designed for. Just as Hamish McIntosh was contracted to North we had to give you compensation (a draft pick) if he was uncontracted you get nothing. Brian Cook is contracted so if you want him to get out of that contract you need to compensate for it ie pay it out. Its what a contract is all about. Unless there is some sort of clause where he can give notice,.

To have it paid out by a third party that is not a party to the contract??? o_O

Brian Cook is not potentially being traded by Geelong for something in return!

If you want a contracted employee i think we do. As for know your place its an internet forum pal, get over yourself.

No you don't, you can't enforce contractual terms against a third party who is not mentioned in, and agreed to the contract.

It will come down to Cook and Geelong having agreed to either party being able to walk away from the contract if certain condistions are/have been meet by either party.

You didn't hear Carter this morning did you?
"Contracts are in place to protect the employee, not the club. Especially long time servants"

If you get him guys he will definitely help you. Such a smart operator.
And from the outside looking in it seems you need him.

So I wouldn't begrudge it. We still owe you for saving our arse 70 years ago.

Whilst I don't think there Is anything in this rumour, some big guy from Geelong was on the radio just then saying that if he wanted to leave they wouldn't hold him to his contract.

Fair call. :thumbsu:

How short some people’s memories seem to be. 2007 was only 5 years ago. The AFL aren't our friend.

It's not a matter of Cook driving the club into the ground, it's a matter of him shipping us to Tasmania, or some shit. He is on record for arguing against 10 clubs in Melbourne, the AFL has a history of trying to get North relocated, so this does not look promising.

The CEO doesn't make those calls. He implements Board policy. And we (now) elect the Board.

He's got great experience making a boutique club financially secure and creating a stable environment for a football department to thrive. I can't see how it could be bad news. He's said stuff that annoyed me before, but if he stakes his reputation on moving to North, and is prepared to leave Geelong while they are so strong, surely it's not just to be an AFL shill.

Greg Denham says on SEN , Cook to North very unlikely , nobody wants the North CEO job . What the hell is this blokes problem ?

Andrew Swallow WILL be at GWS...

Denham hasn't been friendly since Laidley's time. Seems like we give him nothing, he makes a fool of himself on anything North-related, he resents the whole thing. Plus he writes for the paper no-one reads. His problems are legion.

Is this a joke?

He's a weird one alright. Must admit I have enjoyed his trolling of Melbourne, been calling them "the Bears" all trade period and has well and truly exceeded his catch limit!

You Sir (Kid) have no idea.

But I don't recall him saying that we would be one of the clubs to disappear.

This would a HUGE signing if we could land it. The bloke just does not know failure. Almost too good to be true.

The one who said we should of gone to the GC or disappeared is their president, Colin Carter, who has always said we are one of the clubs that should of disappeared, if he ever was made Boss of the AFL, we would be in a lot of trouble.

Negative press is what the media feed off but it seems like him and Fatprick Smith get joy out of negative stories about us and a couple of other clubs .

Clubs like us Bulldogs and Melbourne need support not media flogs taking cheap shots , in general people have very little interest for history except for their own clubs history , the loss of Fitzroy had been the darkest day in our games history and some would get some joy out of us being next .

A clubs fortunes can't be turned around over night but we are heading the right way , stadium deals are killing us and the AFL are derelict not fixing it

Denham is a bit of a douche'...remember this kiddies?

Doubt Cook will come to us. If it does come true I'd want to know how he is being paid. If the AFL are subsidising his salary then I'll be very afraid.
