Bring back Billy.

I am leaning towards Pearce. He is the tallest of the three, the youngest, and should have the most upside. I watched him in the televised VFL game a couple of weeks ago and he looked alright.

Hickey isn’t going anywhere at the moment. He isn’t an issue

I'm not advocating a change in ruck back to Longer but Dinny Navaratnam has highlighted our inability to contain opposing ruckmen. We've conceded more coaches' votes to opposing ruckmen than any other side. We are also last in clearances by quite a long way and have been behind for the last three weeks.

This is an area that we do need to look at. We're putting our defenders under huge pressure every game and giving up too much ground.

Trying different combinations of rucks and mids would be a start.

Very true but I would argue Hickey has played against some of the games top Ruckman in the last 5 weeks or so and he's competed pretty well.

He had his fair share of hit outs to adv as well.. He doesn't get as many overall hit outs but he has a high % of them going to advantage

Our clearance issue is more midfield related

More concerned about what happens when the ball hits the ground after ball ups- our midfield is no good.

It’s not about the ruckmen it’s about our crap midfield.

Richo's press conference today... I'll paraphrase for you all:

"Billy was a liability in the first two rounds."

I agree. No doubt our midfield is one of the weakest in the league.

However, just look at the article I quoted. The coaches are giving opposing ruckmen a lot of votes. So clearly they see the ruckmen as influential (not just the mids), either by hit outs and/or around the ground work. We are being beaten in that position and it is having a material impact. I tend to put a lot of stock in the coaches’ votes. They know more about performances than I do.

Our ruckmen are being beaten and this needs attention.

Really ,,,,, You wanted Billy , you sure jump ship quickly

Can anyone enlighten me as to the possible reason/s that Billy bit crap?
IIRC he played a season when he first crossed, but I remember nothing from that time. He's a high draft pick, especially for a ruckman, which suggests to me he was a very good junior player, and I dont think he was so immoile when younger.
Also, when he plays he's loathe to actually kick the ball and will pass of at any opportunity, so is he really that poorly skilled?
The only opinion I've been able to form is that he looks lazy around the ground. He shouldnt be this average, does anyone know whats gone wrong???
