I reckon with Stokesy under a injury cloud. here is a good chance to bring in Nathan Djekurra. WHat does everyone think? His hardness and speed would be good!

Speed and hardness, not to mention fresh legs, would definitely be welcome against the Pies. But something tells me Stokesy was dropped last week, not injured. Who knows.

If Stokes was dropped, he'd have played in the VFL side you would've thought. I've got a feeling he was rested. IIRC, he played all four NAB Cup games, and also in round 1, so needed a break, considering we had a five day break after the Richmond game. You think if he was injured, they'd have given a better 'reason' than "soreness" when the team was named.

You really are on the wacky tobacco today CB.Egan,Ottens and Hunt aren't really injured. The club have faked their injuries to hide the fact they've really been dropped.

FFS,some people post out of their arse

Stokes sat about five people down from me on Saturday and seemed ok to me. No way I could really tell, but he didn't appear injured.

I'd like to see him play, I just can't see how the club can flex the 22 around to fit him in, especially since we already are lucky enough to have fan favourites in Gamble and Hogan in the team at the same time.

If he is going to be a back flanker of sorts he has to be beat out Kelly and the other established midfielders who plug all the holes in our defense.

Maybe you could explain yourself a tad...

He is similiar to Varcoe in that he doesn't use his speed to advantage enough and doesn't seem to read the play well enough to get involved and get the pill. Fumbles a lot at ground level and is another with deficient kicking skills.

We already have Varcoe, do we really need Djekkura?

They bring something different to the table. Yes both have speed, but Djekkurra is harder bodied.

With time maybe he can play a Byron Pickett role.

I think both Varcoe and Djekkurra in the team is too much of a risk. Really don't want two small, similar players being a liability on game day. Varcoe has already shown he is very hit and miss.

He didn't have a great game in the VFL, and never really seems to stand out. But you never know, he might get lucky with all the injuries.

You're a cantankerous chap aren't you JUBJUB. I did notice that you bought right into my Eddie Betts thread earlier.

Anyway, re Stokes: dropped/sore-rested, whatever. He had a very ordinary game against the Hawks. It's not inconceivable that the coaching panel killed two birds with one stone, giving him a rest AND sending him a message at the same time.

Djekkura is a long way off judging by his pre-season form in the VFL. Has really struggled from what I have seen.

Would rather much see Laidler, Gillies or Moles get a run before Djekkura. They have been consistently in our best for the past month. I know Laidler or Moles would need to be promoted but they both look to have what it takes to play AFL.

It's an interesting one his form was good I was told on the weekend. Also when Varcoe was promoted to the seniors his form at the time did not warrant selection but was given a game. I would like to see him given a few games in the seniors to see how he goes. He has shown he can mix it in the seniors and does play with a very good attack on the ball TB

Except he was average in the 2's, did not dominate and wouldn't get promoted on that effort.

If Stokes doesnt come up,Djekkurra would be a chance to play. His hardness and tackling would be good against the pies this week.

Come off it guys - we all know that if Stokes doesn't play, Byrnes is a shoe in....
Seriously, with the five day break we will need fresh legs, so I'd give Djekkurra a run. Maybe for Varcoe who doesn't do enough?

I wasn't necessarily advocating bringing in Djerrkura, just that speed and hardness (and fresh legs) would definitely be welcome against the Pies.

We've seen coaches use youth effectively over the first two rounds; Geelong could perhaps do with a small injection for round 3, given the 5 day break.

Djerrkura is not quite ready yet, we shouldn't give away senior berths, he has got to earn it. Hogan should be kept in the side, because he has earnt his right and if we are searching for fresh legs than Byrnes is a reasonable option. I also like the idea of promoting DJ against the pies to play a true back pocket role....he is very hard at the ball and a consistent VFL (and AFL) performer.

I think Lonergan might be brought in also, especially considering the week off...played a good game against the pies in NAB cup and could provide a solid matchup for Rocca / Anthony or even Cloke.

IMHO it wouldn't be the worst thing resting a few tired bodies this week and giving depth players a chance to step up. Am excited about seeing West, i think he will be one to really step up and take his chance this week.
