Brisbane win: very dissapointing

If i was lethal leigh matthews i would be getting worried. The dreaded premiership hangover has obviously arrived - evidence being last nights performance against the bombers. To only defeat sheedy's highly "over rated" team by 50 points is a dissapointment. I truely mean the term "over rated". Sure, I also believe Essendon "underachieved" by not winning last years grand final - and i know the two statements kind of contradict each other, but who cares. Lets get one thing straight. Essendon are an average side - and i have Robert Walls to back my argument up. Their backline is terrible. Dean Solomon is ireplaceable. Damien Hardwick = an up and coming superstar of the competition. Their midfield questionable and as of last night their foward line is the weakest in the competition. It needs another marking option. The foward structure is too one dimensional. If we ignore the fact that they ran 5 players out of full foward against the tigers a week earlier, you could argue that they go to Lloyd every time! The age got it right - Lloyd was lucky to kick three goals last night - despite hitting the post once and having another taken away by the umpire. Yes they are in dire need of another marking option. Dont you bomber supporters say Scott Lucas is returning, cause he aint no marking option - he couldn't take a grab to save himself. In fact if he played last night, his likely opponent would have been Chris Johnson or someone of a similar size. Lets face it Brisbane - to only beat this side by 50 points is a disgrace. All you aarogant brisbane fans have to realise you have NO chance at back to back premierships. Dont argue that you're not arogant - you are. Your team are winning - you MUST be!

While your comments about Brisbane being ****e and disappointed are downright stupid, I cant help but think the Bombers are really starting to lose it.

They no longer have that fear factor about them, that they used to have.

They are now very much beatable.

Their forward line last night really did look in trouble.

Lloyd wasn't getting enough of the ball, and there were no other real marking options down forward. Lucas will be back, but you cant count on him as a direct key option.

The midfield doesn't look all that fantastic either from last night, but then again they were up against the best midfield in the competition.

Defence, they are missing hardwick, I think that is fairly evident.

All in all, Essendon still have a fairly good side.

My tips are. They will finish top 4, but WONT make the Grand Final.

Anything can happen between now and then of course

Oh i agree. Mase. History shows that teams that think they can beat Essendon, usually have a pretty good show. It's especially effective when the media really play it up - look at Hawthorn & Richmond. There's proof enough. Heck that's the only way they won in 2000 - everyone else thought they couldn't lose. Same with Brisbane last year - i know when Essendon met them in round six Sheedy was saying "my god, we cant beat this mob, they're unbeatable - they're one and four"

While i agree with you on that point, Mase, you clearly are a fool. How can a team with:
a forward line that looks in trouble. (lloyd (lucky to kick three), lucas (where was he last night?), caracella (who?) , alessio (superstars dont need match fitness), mercuri (hack) , moorcroft(shane harvey's better).
The midfield doesn't look all that fantastic (Hird and the two Johnsons were SMASHED last night) and a
Defence that falls apart without a hard at the ball yet kind of slow back pocket (perfect match for akker)
still be a fairly good side and still going to make the four?

how can they possibly make it in past hawthorn, richmond, carlton and port adelaide!?! These three teams are all going to win the premiership this season. Mark my words.

I think you have missed my point.

I said on last nights game. I haven't seen any of Essendons otehr games, and I never thought of otherwise.

But from what I saw last night, they just aren't the force of old at the moment.

Whereas in 2000 and to a lesser extent 2001, teams were going in for respectibiliy rather than genuinely thinking they would win.

Now that fear of losing is no longer there.
They are still a great side, but teams can now have the belief that they can beat them, because they are not up to the same standard they were, whether it be out of form or loss of players or whatever.

I never said anyoen should be dropped etc..


It wasnt a cheap shot or anything, just an observation, sorry mate!

I personally think that Bradshaw should be dropped. 6 goals? His brother kicked 11. Fair enough, it was in the reserves, but the way Essendon were playing they would have had trouble beating the little league teams at half time.

While I agree to some extent some of the edge has gone, it's Brisbane that made us look bad.

I'm not blaming anything on injuries or anything like that, but, the return of Lucas and Rioli should lift our forward line. The forward line isn't so flash at the moment because some of the forwards are now playing in the midfield. And anyway, it is hardly Lloyd's fault he was not getting enough of the ball....if the midfield is not going as well, obviously the ball isn't gonna get to him. The bloody umpires did not help. I might say every week that the umpiring was ****, but this week I mean it: Lloyd couldn't get a bloody free kick if he paid a million dollars for it. OK, so he got one in the last quarter...and if the umpires hadn't paid that I would be absolutely rampant (not that I'm not absolutely rampant about it anyway ), because it was a bloody obvious one, but there were some shockers of decisions there. Again, not that I'm blaming it on umpiring. Essendon were not up to their best last night, clearly.

Re the defence...it's not Hardwick that's missing. It's Solomon. The inclusion of Peverill made up for Hardwick, but with Solomon down, it makes things a hell of a lot harder. Remember, the backline was also without Wellman last night.

and re your comment that the Bombers are starting to lose it...well....to some extent we are not as hard as 2000...which I would like to point out, is only to be expected!!...but if we were losing it, we would not have demolished Geelong and Richmond as we did.
