The British Open starts on Thursday with plenty of betting options to have a punt on. With Tiger being out injured makes the event wide open.

I like Ernie Els ($15) to win the tournament. Els has an unbelievable record in British Open's, 6 top 10's including a win in his last 9 attempts. Had a top 10 last week, so is starting to run into some good form.

Also like Adam Scott for top Australian at $4.

Probably a bit too early to obtain tee times and accurate weather forecasts which may be a factor.

Will be leaning towards Jimenez @ 41's & Immelman @ 51's.

IMO, Garcia is way too short @ 11's.

Tee times have been out for a couple of days. From all the reports the rough is absolutely penal.

He has a horrendous record in majors but I wouldn't mind a sneaky go on Robert Allenby. At least for leading Aussie anyway.

Reading in todays' Herald Sun, Ogilvy has said the conditions for practice have been blowy with rain. May look towards a Justin Rose as well as Jimenez.

Just having a look at some of the 3 balls, there is a few i like.

Goosen $2.85
Harrington $2.25
Leonard $3.25

Like Justin Leonard in this 3 ball. Retief Goosen has been in terrible form all year and Harrington is carrying a wrist injury (http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,24027448-23213,00.html). So $3.25 looks good value.


Ames $2.60
Howell III $3.50
Jimenez $2.30

Jimenez has been in really good form this year. Howell has had only 2 top 10 finishes on the PGA tour this year from 20 starts and Ames has a horrible record at the British Open.


Garcia $1.75
Imada $3.75
OHair $3.75

Garcia is the tournament favourite and should beat these two in Rounds 1 and 2.


Els $2.00
Kaymer $2.85
Verplank $4.00

Els has a brilliant record at the Open and will be very hard to beat. Verplank has had only 1 top 10 in the British Open in 11 starts and Kaymer even though is a very good player might struggle.


Cink $2.15
T.Clark $2.85
Havret $3.75

Cink has been driving the ball horrible this year and is ranked 142nd in fairways hit. With the rough being tough, you have to keep your ball on the fairway. Tim Clark is very accurate and has a very good record in Major championships.
