Left because we tanked, and he's not comfortable with tanking.

'Nek minnit' - yeah he said that.

He went to Carlton.

Tune into On the Couch now

Strong words from Brock, good on him for coming out with the truth, I say. He said he sympathised with Bailey for the position he'd been put in, but just couldn't try to make it work at the MFC with such poor culture being ingrained late in 2009.

His quote about the game on Saturday was hilarious too... "I tried to kick a bullet pass to him (Casboult), nek minnit it went over his head and through for a goal." I laughed a lot.

Loved Brock when he played for us, wished him well when he left, was happy for him when he finally starts getting a game and plays well, now after tonight's interview I hate him.

Big mouth ****en dog!

All class.

He's a troll, forget it. Good on McLean I say, I often wondered why he left. Were in the shit now because of decisions like this so why not acknowledge it, and never do it again.

Don't see why this is such a revelation. Bailey, and even Stynes, on occasions made hints that we tanked, and we did. Remember hearing an interview with Stynes where he said 'We could've won more games had we played the senior guys, in their natural positions, but we looked to the future and played the kids and mixed it up.' Development, getting games into the kids, building a list etc. are really just euphemisms for 'tanking' which we did. Hard to swallow, but it happened, sadly.

Love the 'nek minnut' drop though, McLean is as bright as his twitter suggests!

Hah respect for getting nek minnit on national tv :D

I wouldn't worry though, with the olympics on hardly a single soul would have been watching OTC tonight anyway (actually, even if the olympics weren't on...)

Dwayne Russell was trying to bluff his way through some equestrian commentary at the time, so I think OTC might have rated pretty well.

I'm surprised so many here are angry with McLean's words tonight, I'm quite the opposite. I've come to respect the man for pushing through some really tough times last year and the year before, and I reckon it's great to see him doing well in the middle these past 6 weeks or so. (that view is helped by the fact that he's scoring very well for my Ultimate Footy team).

Hearing his interview tonight has only made me like him more - it's obvious that the MFC at large was in the wrong in terms of his departure in 2009, whereas I think we all thought he had cracked the shits because he wasn't really guaranteed games and was about to be squeezed out by younger blokes. So after that admission I have no bad feelings towards him at all - fair enough that he walked. He would have languished at the MFC anyway, we didn't have the facilities or expertise to help him push through the battles he has had with his lack of speed/penetration.

Also I don't think it's hypocritical for him to talk about tanking while he plays for Carlton. He wasn't there at the time (Kreuzer Cup etc) so why should he cop the heat just by association? He had nothing to do with the whole saga. I reckon he wanted to go to Carlton because they wanted to have him - they made an attractive offer, and he jumped on it. I doubt he went there for the amazing culture, but then again any culture would have been better than our poor excuse for it circa 2009.

Good on him.

This is going to be a bit of a shit stir. Will go away in a couple of weeks, Caroline Wilson will eat it up, Brock McLean will get more attention and life will go on. There have been a lot of clubs that have tanked including us. I hate it but it exists because it was the best option for most clubs in the position they were in at the time. We were blatantly obvious about it, Carlton were pretty obvious to. Collingwood and West Coast managed to be a bit more coy when they did it. In the end it's a problem with the system and not with any one club. Though this will just be another lot of crap on an already crap season.

The hypocrisy is him leaving because he doesn't like the tanking direction the club was taking and then going to a club that went in that direction prior to that. No he wasn't a part of tanking but he joined a list that was built on it.

Agree with CJ but this is why it pisses me off. Shocking season.

For telling the truth? Really?

I take his word for it on the tanking happening at melbourne, I don't believe him when he says that's the main reason he went to Carlton, because hahahhahaa

Also, I reckon we should appreciate the fact that he's waited almost 3 years to bring this out in the open. If he was a shit bloke he could have really caused havoc by coming out when he left the MFC in 2009 and saying just that. Who knows what may have happened... Jim's name would have been tarnished at the very least, and surely heads (and draft picks) would have rolled.

I have never pressed rewind more furiously in my life on the IQ remote. First thoughts were no way my ears are deceiving me, then bang he actually said "nek minnut". Mike Sheehan had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't Mark Robinson masquerading as Brock Mclean.

Just heard on radio that the afl is re-opening it's tanking investigation on Melbourne after Brock's comments last night.
