Anyone know where he is at ??
He'd be pretty good rotating through the middle !!
We've got Palmer, Ibbotson, O'Brien, Foster all coming through.
These kids may all get a chance in the midfield this year.
Midfield could be :

Headland
Schammer Gilmore
Peake Bell
MJ Pavlich (if we are getting belted)
Roger
Josh
Mundy

Throw the kids in there, and it may not be too bad. Matt Carr playing for the Gummies, Crowley only in if he's consistent.

Oh, and Solly and Johnson as well for a bit of smash.

Mundy is crap in the middle - see adelaide game
Peake needs to head back to the WAFL IMO - very poor decision making
MJ - see Mundy

we have to rely on the kids now and i reckon there will be a couple of surprises as to who is in there early on.

so.. yeah get Brocky in there i reckon :thumbsu:

According to the official site, as at 29/02 he's still out for another 2 weeks with a foot injury, so unlikely to be considered for a game for some time yet. He'd need to put in a few good games at Peel before he gets a look in.

Foster is 3 weeks with a back injury, so unlikely to be seeing him anytime soon either.

Thanks for that.
I disagree about Mundy, he could be good at receiving and kicking in to the forward 50. He's got a good kick.
The problem is who is going to get the ball to him ??
And I was only meaning rotations, not in there the whole time.
I reckon Harvey is going to rotate, and heavily.
But not with the same Crowley,M Carr etc he'll bring in surprises like Roger, Johnno and Mundy.

You don't want someone who doesn't win their own ball and isn't quick inside the centre square. Mundy's best coming off the edge of the square to receive the handball.

I don't think Brock plays in the middle for Peel too often so he's probably a couple of years off being able to play that role at AFL level. Same applies to Gilmore, if he was an AFL calibre midfielder he'd be a clearance machine for South, but he rakes up 30 possessions playing wing/half back.

i reckon crowley is getting a rough go here. crowley has been our most impressive preseason performer on the track. he could easily play a regular role in the guts. or even on a half forward flank, he is a great set shot and would fight hard to keep the ball in. reckon he is underrated

I know it is a very different role, but Gilmore got some handy clearances while rucking. With Hasleby gone for the season we need some other players to win clearances for us, and I think he will play a role.

Just wondering what sort of player you see Brock developing into long term?

Is he looking like more of a tough negating HBF/BP or does he look capable of developing into a genuine clearance winning midfielder?

Cheers.

I think so...can make his way through traffic, hard as nails, great kick on the left and pretty quick from what I have seen.
If this kid can get going, I think he fits the Schammer mold. But I may be alone here :D

He's been names as ruck-rover for Peel this weekend, so he's on his way, and he's now playing a midfield role for them rather than in the back pocket / hbf that they had him playing last year. Can only be a good thing. :thumbsu:

I think he has the abillity to be a clearance winning midfielder. He is hard as nails and has major small man syndrome which leaves him in the Daniel Kerr mold (though nowhere near as good). My cousin plays WAFL against him and hates his guts - reckons he has a chip on his shoulder and is a dirty little ****. He sounds just what we need at freo, a bit of mongrel.

Sounds eeirely familiar to St Josh of Fremantle

181cm - 6 foot in the old language - and he has small man's syndrome?? I just think he's a hard-as-nails, got a fair-bit-of-mongrel about him kind of bloke. Works for me. :thumbsu:

Also this was on the Slimes website from last week for those that missed it:

Freo midfielder Brock O'Brien overcomes foot injury

FORGOTTEN Fremantle midfielder Brock O'Brien has overcome the debilitating foot injury that threatened to derail his entire 2008 season.
The hard-nut onballer has played no part in the crucial early-season restructuring of the Dockers' midfield after surgery on his foot over summer.

It put the 19-year-old a long way back in the Fremantle queue, despite finishing last season on the best possible note, making an encouraging AFL debut.

But O'Brien has finally broken the shackles, playing his first two league games of 2008 over the past two weekends with WAFL club Peel.

Thunder coach Chris Waterman said O'Brien had made an impressive return and expected him to be back in the Dockers' selection frame soon.

``The injury has made him think pretty hard about his footy and he just looked like a more-mature footballer last week,'' Waterman said.

``If he keeps developing along the same lines as what we've already seen, I think he'll be a strong chance to play AFL in the near future.

``Outside of that, he should be a very solid WAFL player for us this year.''

O'Brien's hardness won over Fremantle coach Mark Harvey after he gathered 15 possessions in the Dockers' last-round loss to Port Adelaide in 2007.

He was one of the youngsters called up to replace the six key players Harvey suspended for the vital Round 22 match, in a major stand against ill-discipline.

``He had stitches in his head and kept coming, and they're the sort of players that you look for,'' Harvey said.

``He's obviously grown up pretty tough in the country and that's the way he plays. It's always good to find those sort of players.''

But O'Brien looks to have been leapfrogged by a bevy of Dockers this pre-season, including Rhys Palmer, Garrick Ibbotson, Clayton Hinkley and Chris Mayne.

He ain't 6 foot in a dream - sounds like the Freo website which has Peter Bell at 175 cm!

My cousin is 6'5 though, so i guess he considers alot of people small :) Or perhaps its just his attitude as well.
