At Work.
AFL Club
Fremantle
Somewhere in the annals of Dockerland circa 2003/2004 when Sandi was considered a crab, I wrote that he'll win a Brownlow one day. Obviously, I am extremely talented talent spotter. Equally obviously, lacking any sense of modesty.

So I can be the first I want to say that Greg Broughton will be the new Shane Parker. He's just a defender's defender, plays short and tall, from Subiaco and has a later start in the AFL than most.

I predicted he would get elevated. Look for him to drive forwards crazy and never get any recognition in doing so.

Correct. He was from the age of battlers.

Loved his application, not his skill level or decison making processes.

What ...so your basically saying that everyone that has contributed careers with Freo are no good coz the team has battled? What about the team of 2003. Came close our first GF and he was a starting 22 member.
Parker was rock solid and despite his appearance of uneasiness at times he was always cool and composed under pressure.

Umm...Parker was good in a lot of areas but cool and composed under pressure he was not. He was terrible under pressure!

Obviously!!!

Care to list all the one's you got wrong over the years?

Give the kid a break. He hasn't even played a game of AFL yet.I have no doubt he will play, but fair dinkum, how can you compare them. One played over 200 AFL games and the other is yet to debut.
To those of you who say Parker was a nobody or no good, you obviously know nothing about the game.
Had Parker played for one of the Melbourne based clubs he would more than likely have played over 300 games and been accepted as a real star.Unlike our SUPPORTERS!!!! they appreciate the quality players.

Oh dear God. People bad mouthing Shane Parker. I am sending an email to Chief as we speak to find the names and addresses of the dissenters so I can come and kick their arses until their noses bleed. Insulting the great man is pretty much admitting that you wouldn't know a football if it hit you in the face as you got out of bed every morning for the rest of your life and that you hate all things Fremantle. Seriously, if you don't rate him, you suck at life. That's all there is to it.

Dr Dagg, I hope you're right. But I know deep down that there never has been, and never will be, another Shane Parker. And nothing stops the resultant hurt I feel.

Yeah Parker did have the occasional brain-melt...

Especially when kicking out from behinds. Thank god we took that job off him in the 2nd half of his career.

...but overall the guy was a very good player.

Yep, he wasn't flashy and he wasn't skilful but he was one of the best shut down defenders going around. And every team needs one of those.

Remember Chisholm kicking in? That was quite ridiculous. In our second season I recall him kicking it straight to a Bulldog in a nail bitter that we somehow won anyway.

I think Parker was a very reliable and dependable player but on the occasions he did stuff up it was very bad/comical and it would stick in your memory.

What?

And I disagree, yes he was a capable stopper but his disposal was WAFL standard at best.

i think people bag parker out too much, people tend to remember the time he kicked it to nobody player ben hollands for richmond one time in the dying seconds of the game which eventually lost us the game, and forget about the copious amount of times that he made phil matera his bitch and then the next week would line up on and beat a guy like tony modra or barry hall...... the guy could be the most underrated player of any sport of all time... although roger hayden and luke mcpharlin arent far off that mantle

Friday 5th Sept 6.40pm
Fremantle v Essendon
yes we got demolished so it was semi tongue in cheek, however it was the closest we had come with a home final.

(he also played all 25 games 2006.)
