Who gives a flying **** if you keep your first pick in the draft? As long as you don't breach the salary cap, you get one for doing nothing every year. I wouldn't be lauding Bond for that. The Clark **** up annoyed me more, but I am super pissed to see Broughton go. He is loads better than Spurr. Will do fantastically at GC.

Must admit, was bewildered (and rapt) when i heard of this. U guys got reamed (no offence).

Push up your salary cap .....hello Harley.

Pearce was probably the 2nd biggest fish to move in FA this year after Goddard, that makes us pretty big players. Some people just have unrealistic expectations.
The expectation was placed by making comments about being well placed for FA, sure the media latched onto this by linking Goddard and Cloke to Freo. Pearce I wouldn't exactly call him a big fish, by big fish most people look towards the A-Graders not a B-Grader with C or D grade form and besides that he isnt on the biggest contract you will ever see to justify being labelled a big fish or us labelled big players.

Unrealistic is the first round draft pick expectations by half this board in regards to Broughton. I dont think it unrealistic to expect the club who has a proven coach and a developing list (which was playing some of its best footy in its short history) to attract an A-Grade player to the club. Especially when the list managers make public comments regarding our cap space which could have fit $1.5 million a year. I don't think I am alone in having this expectation of the footy club.

Man for all you guys and gals bemoaning Bondy and saying this is a disaster.......let me just say welcome to the club and as you have obviously just joined us I hope you continue to support us going forward.

We are keeping our lower draft picks, we are attracting mature players to our club at bargain prices and we refuse to pay ridiculous prices in regards to picks/players plus we are trading peripheral players (hey love you Broughts but a 26 year old utility is not core) ...........so we aint capturing any free agents who are KPP's .........this is disappointing not disasterous.

Broughton being traded - OK I thought we might have got a pick about 10 places higher than we did ....we were never getting 13. However I don't know Broughts situation - could be salary cap, could be he is one of the ones disappointing in off field discipline and perhaps he just dont fit.

I don't know and dont really care. Lyon had us playing the best football I have ever see us play. For the first time in my life I am thinking that if we can get the right cattle on the ground in the next 2 years - we aare actually a ******* chance to win this thing. If that means trading out a best 22 player to send a message, or if it is just because we want the cash to target someone they feel is better than Broughton .......do so with my blessing.

You want disaster - Croad me, Sam Mitchell me, Bell me, McLeod me ........Broughton is a really solid player but I could tell you 15 players on our list I would rather keep.

Plus to the Ibbo haters, you got no idea how important his run and carry is to our club ......Hill, Pearce, Ibbo and hopefully some push through by the likes of Menegola or Sutcliffe.

The fact we go to another draft with our 1st pick in place - win for me.

I agree with everything you said there - except for the bit about Ibbo. He simply does not run and carry. He stops, looks sideways and then kicks back. He did take some reasonable intercept marks in the back 50 this year, but his general lack of conviction in contests and in moving the ball forward at speed, just kill me.

You're allowed one mistake

We had a fair crack at Goddard too but I don't want to over pay Vics to play for us anymore anyway.
Well we're not going to get much in the way of anything through free agency if we don't chase Vics and players from other states.

Franklin is a pipe dream.

I don't even care about speculating over how unfair the compensation may or may not have been, Broughton was one one of my favourites and I'm shattered to see him leave.

Wondering if those who are deliberately underselling his value to the team in this thread are just trying to convince themselves he's a spud so it doesn't seem so hard to take? Suggestions that Spurr/Ibbotson/Duffield/McPhee are far better players, laughable

Broughton is a tough and uncompromising customer who has always played with outstanding discipline, I still find it incomprehensible that he didn't "buy-in" to the Lyon plan.

I don't trust anyone with Tom Swift as their avatar.

I don't trust anyone that rates Ibbotson.

Low benchmark.

Tom Atkinson just tweeted that Greg had been told he'd be playing for Subi for most of the year and that he felt he was being "coached out of form."

"Coached out of form" sounds suspiciously like the words of a man who wasn't buying in.

Mind you, it's pretty poor form from Lyon too if he walked in and pre-emptively threatened a player with being dropped to the WAFL for the year.

Depends how you put it.
Lyon: at this stage Greg, I see you as a depth player and unless injury or form changes that's where it sits.
Greg: **** this shit.

Broughtons manager was just on 6PR and said it was Bondy who said that he was likely to be playing mainly WAFL football next year.

so now we know - by midseason he was sitting down on the job, after being told to pull his finger out - he should have done what the coach demanded - result was inevitable

in jest :) - will miss Broughton not being out there in purple

Urge to kill rising

but oh well hes gone now and it isnt really a loss we cant cover(although it would have been better if he stayed)

If Lyon really used it as a motivator why tell him prior to the trade period? It's pretty obvious the message was 'you better put yourself up for trade, because you'll struggle to get a game here'.
