Not a good example.

But if we're taking examples, look at Luke Ball ...
It's a good example in terms of everyone pointing out that Broughton was in our top 5 B&F as a reason to not let him go.

I've said this before I think GB is a good player and liked him at FFC, however he's not to our head coaches liking for whatever reason and we aren't privy to those no matter how much wild speculation goes on these forums.

Get over it ! Broughton was a crab, not in the best 22.

we are paying him a lot of coin next year when he is not going to play under Lyon.

pick 37 is the new pick 20 in this years draft....move on tree huggers.

I see you signed up to BF today.

Please, post more of your opinions.

Just stepped off a 13 hr flight ... dafaq?

I agree you have to trade when they have currency, but why toss in pick 60 as well? Unless we don't need it to fill our list I assume...

Because we all know here on BigFooty that no-one has ever watched a game of football or learnt anything about it before joining up here. Guys opinion is as valid as yours, join date has nothing to do with it. Could be Ron Barrassi for all we know.

If pick upgrades are all the rage around here, why wasn't pick 17 + Broughton for pick 13 possible?

GC said the didn't want to trade pick 13. From the link it sounds like Greg was on the way out, for whatever reason. Everyone's happy with what they got, except some of the fans.

Yeah and we said no to St Kilda's offer did we? Oh wait there was no offer..

We didn't value pick 60 and jumped up 23 spots while dumping a 350k salary. Good business.

A huge 350k salary, which is about the average wage for an AFL player...

I'd be surprised if we used pick 60. I believe we have to delist one more player just to use pick 40. And not upgrade any rookies.

I'm sure a four pick downgrade could have sat right with them. Far closer to fair value than what we got. Closer to our strategic need for talls as well.

You can be happy and stupid. Sounds like the club is both.

Meh. Someone had to go. I'm sad it was greg, he was a favourite of mine, up there with roger and cookie, but without knowing the full story I'm not gonna cast aspersions speculating on sentiment and getting upset about it. The fact remains the club did fine without him and he's being looked after. In the new regime he became surplus to needs for whatever reason and a decision was made. Shut the drawer and move on.

I'm disappointed we let him go. One of my favourite players, and an early result of the policy of taking mature age players with lower round draft picks and turning them into instant AFL footballers. Now Broughton is gone, Silvagni is out of favour too. Suddenly that recruiting angle seems a bit hit and miss - ok we still got Barlow and Fish-pub.

So you favour Broughton & 17 for 13 .......over Broughton & 60 for 37

No agree.

Yep, this was clearly Broughton's Walters/Pearce moment and he chose to walk rather than do the (sorry) Hard Yakka. Nothing to see here folks just a coach sending a challenge and a player thinking he didn't deserve to be challenged. Ross doesn't let up. He will hammer you into to a grand final.

That's not throwing a challenge, that's shitting all over your player.

How the **** could someone be regarded as a great communicator when they come out and say that sort of shit to a player? It is the antithesis to good communication and managing.

OK. Obviously you disliked it when I made some offhand comment about Walters.

Having been on the Gold Coast earlier this year for round 6, I think this deal is just a big thank you to the Suns for not embarrassing us and letting us win a game we never should have.

I wish him well, he was a very solid player for us.

Also disappointed to see Broughts go, but can't wait to see who we try to snare with the cap space we're freeing up.

I tend to agree. Throw them an ultimatum, but don't shit on their dreams.

Certainly, given our needs for talls and where that places us in the draft.

I'm sure Bond has a skinny flanker earmarked for 37 though. And I'm sure you'll defend the policy under 'best available', even when it plainly isn't.

Last time there was this much anger at FFC was when they sacked Harvey, but some things work out for the best don't they.

I'm not stoked with the trade but if they get some KPP's I will quickly get over it, just get some ****ing KPP's already!!!

But high for a bloke who is on the outer.

I will too if you can point out to me where he has expressed it.

Got sauce, or just talking out of your arse?

It's not hard to join the dots and see the picture at the end.

Greg Broughton is not the first player to fall victim to new regime syndrome, or even fall victim to Ross Lyon regime syndrome, and he won't be the last.

There are coaches who work with the talent they have and try to build on it, then there are coaches who have a plan and recruit/develop players accordingly. Rossy is firmly among the latter.
