Yeah mate i have looked into The Rising not so much Magic before. Really enjoyed The Rising, Mary's Place ,Waitin on a Sunny and as you've put into your top 61 Lonesome Day. Surprisingly i hadn't heard of i think it was 5 or 6 of your top ten alone with the rest of your top 61. Listened to a few songs from Magic such as Girls in their summer clothes and Working on a dream, all i can say is im really impressed. Continually this man seizes to amaze me, i like many of the Springsteen fans are leaning towards post 2000's > pre 2000's.

Growing up Dancing in the Dark was my all time favourite, but now i feel Jungleland (like you) is clearly my favourite, just 9 minutes of absolute magic. In saying this, some of my other favourites include Spirit In the Night, Atlantic City (particularly with his Paris 1985 performance), Tougher than the Rest, Rosalita, Born in the USA, Born to Run, Radio Nowhere, Murder Incorporated and The Promised Land.

The best concert I ever went to was Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band back in 1985 on the Born In The USA tour. I was a teenager and promptly went out and bought all of his albums thereafter. Don't buy them as religiously as I used to but don't buy music much at all these days as I have other financial obligations.

Great concert. Went for nearly four hours. Rained half way through but nobody cared. QEII was absolutely packed. Springsteen just spent so much of the night telling stories leading up to his songs. Magical.

Magic is a great album. It's definitely worth listening to, Girls In Their Summer Clothes is great, if it had come off an earlier album I think it would be a staple. Absolutely magical song, no pun intended. A great, feel good track. Should get round to listening to (Magic) it in its entirety if you can.

Waitin' On A Sunny Day was good, during The Rising tour, it sounded too country on the WOAD tour, it's a fun song. And I did like it a lot when I was younger, it's a good singalong.

I prefer Bruce's voice post 2000 compared to pre 2000, but I would probably have to lean with pre 2000 Bruce for music. BToR does not have a bad song on it. The whole album is a masterpiece.

Which ones in the top 10 hadn't you heard? If you say Incident, click on that clip now!

I saw him on the Ghost of Tom Joad tour at the Palais in StKilda...it was a freaking 35 degree day and 45 degrees in that shite hole, but hell of a solo performance....never really liked the tied back hair do must admit.

Saw him at Telstra and got ripped off with the gold seats...on the wing other side of ground.

Third time lucky hopefully in 2012...would love to f** off the corporates and let the fans have the front rows.

That Barcelona DVD is a concert i wish I was at...

As an aside...I do like the 'Better Days' song/video from Lucky Town/Human Touch era. Its actually an underestimated song...again, the lyrics hide some home truths under that roaring guitar.

Standout best:
Secret Garden

Yeah, I never liked the slicked back hair either, his current hairstyle is good.

The Dome show any good? I will definitely go to both Melbourne shows providing he tours and will most likely follow him to Sydney as well.

Live in Barcelona is great, the Europeans really know how to do shit. So much atmosphere in those shows if you see uploaded fan ones on YouTube.

Better Days is a good track, I like Lucky Town too. I have a frame with a lyric from Better Days "It's a sad man my friend who's livin in his own skin and can't stand the company."

Blood Brothers is good but I have never really got into it all that much. The last song he sings on the Reunion Tour at the last show, he is arm in arm with all The E-Street Band and he has tears in his eyes, very moving.

And as good as Secret Garden is, it doesn't come anywhere near this

I have a frame with a lyric from Better Days "It's a sad man my friend who's livin in his own skin and can't stand the company."

The clincher in that song for me was "a woman I could call my friend" and I suppose that's why some of his songs can reflect on your own experiences of which are too long gone by to tell here...

The other two were 'Brilliant Disguise'...particularly towards the end when he cleverly reverses the doubt onto himself:-

Now you play the loving woman I'll play the faithful man
But just don't look too close into the palm of my hand
We stood at the alter the gypsy swore our future was right
But come the wee wee hours maybe baby the gypsy lied
So when you look at me you better look hard and look twice
Is that me baby or just a brilliant disguise

Tonight our bed is cold
Im lost in the darkness of our love
God have mercy on the man
Who doubts what he's sure of

and Tunnel of love...

There's a room of shadows that gets so dark brother
Its easy for two people to lose each other in this tunnel of love

and The River...

Is a dream a lie if it don't come true

So what I am saying is that it does get under my skin when some think of him as mean streets-fast cars etctectc when in fact he does write real statements on the complexities of relationships.

Tunnel of Love will be one of the songs I profile about being unlucky on missing out.

His writing is underrated. Pretty much BIT USA/Dancing In The Dark/Glory Days/Hungry Heart/I'm On Fire and BToR receive the most airplay, and out of those BToR is the only well written one. Again, people can only judge what's put in front of them, but the stuff that doesn't receive airplay is far better than the stuff that does (BToR the exception of course)

Backstreets shows it as well

Stranded in the park and forced to confess
To hiding on the backstreets, hiding on the backstreets
We swore forever friends on the backstreets until the end
Hiding on the backstreets, hiding on the backstreets

Jungleland....

The Rat pulls into town rolls up his pants
Together they take a stab at romance and disappear down Flamingo Lane

Bruce has always written about relationships very well, the way his characters develop during songs as well is evidence of it too.

The doubt you highlight about himself comes up as early as BToR

'Cause baby I'm just a scared and lonely rider
But I gotta find out how it feels
I want to know if love is wild
girl I want to know if love is real

Did you listen to Lonely Night In The Park? If so, did you like it?

Anybody seen or heard of these guys? They're a tribute band from NYC, they're brilliant.

They're on Facebook too if you like them that much. Well worth a look.

The whails are..... indescribable.

You're allowed an opinion, but if you don't like him, there's not much more point you posting in here imo.

Of course you're allowed an opinion. Everyone is. Am I allowed a retaliation to what you think?

If so, then once again....eadc :thumbsu:

Higher and Higher

I almost included it in my list, almost. But I decided to take it out as it was a cover. It pained me to do it, but I thought it wouldn’t be fair, so I opted to leave it. Had it made it in however, it would be in the top 10.

Never have I seen anyone have as much fun with a song. Ever. You thought he had fun playing Rosalita, well you ain’t seen nothing yet. Higher and Higher takes it to a whole new level. He dances like he doesn’t give a shit, bops around like he’s king of the world, it’s an awesome sight to see. It’s a song of pure joy, and it works perfectly with The E-Street Band. The horns, Roy jamming out on the piano, Max with the steady beat, all of it comes together so perfect, and so effortlessly, it’s like clockwork, it’s that perfect.

Then there is the switch up to D. A key change halfway through a song they’ve never played before. Unbelievable! And they do it like it’s nothing. But it’s what you’d expect from Bruce and the band, they’re so good at what they do, nothing can challenge them.

I can’t praise it enough. Nobody will ever understand I don’t think. I hope you guys get the joy I get when I listen to this song. It brightens up my day, it leaves a smile on my face for the 8 minutes it plays, it makes me want to live life to its maximum potential.

This is the song that makes me the happiest I can feel. Nothing else comes close. Not even Rosie.

The best cover you'll see of any song.

Watch all of the video, you’ll be lost for words.

Well Johan Cruyff may have been the master of the Dutch's Total Football, but Cruyff14 is the master of this thread if not Bruce on bigfooty. A great read of his favourite songs, as well as other contributors.

The reason I finally joined bigfooty in late 2004, after 6 months of lurking was that Port board moderator Ford Fairlaine, quoted some obscure lines from Jungeland, about a young SA footballer who had been tipped to be a star player but just drifted between a couple of SANFL clubs. Ever since then Ford and I have been swapping PM's about the Boss. I will have to get him to read this thread.

I found this website just over 12 months ago. It's updated every Friday - Canada time. There are some great videos from the archives in this.

Any news re confirming his Oz tour dates?

Thanks Russ, your words are appreciated. I'm more than happy to send you a disc of random songs I have downloaded from bootlegs if you're interested.

As I said in my description of Jungleland, it is the greatest song I will ever hear.

None as of yet, fingers crossed.

i think human touch is his best song he and the band nail it in this.music at its finest

30) Human Touch

We're all riders on this train

For all the great things Bruce has brought us, you can’t really name too many positive reasons for breaking up the ESB. However, it didn’t completely back fire.

And that’s what leads us to entry 29, Human Touch.

From the 1992 album of the same name, it is probably the best song he wrote when he went solo (Joad fans will be cursing, but live with it).

This song really sets the stage alight when it’s done live. Bruce and Patti play it like a duet, sort of. Bruce of course commanding the stage as always, but Patti is just a little to his left. You can really see the chemistry between them when they hit the bridge and again toward the end of the song when they are sharing Bruce’s mic. What’s even better is how well this works with the ESB.

My favourite part of Human Touch is probably the outro. The band is rocking in full force and Bruce is wielding that Telecaster like a chainsaw, it’s brilliant.

In regards to the video clip, here is a funny story about it from another site;

“So then a few years pass, and Meiert hired me to shoot a band called the Rituals and we’re shooting all the view on materials, it’s always like rituals like ancient African rituals, and we’re shooting in this cave and we got this moving camera. There’s lightning-strikes machine, and we’re shooting weddings and all first strange ritualistic behavior. And then when shoot material with this girl in like a ‘30s or ‘40s apartment. Well, we’re shooting the girl and there’s lightning flashing, and they told me we’re going to New Orleans, and there’s going to a street car and a spark when it goes over the joint. And so I’m playing with that in this shoot as well, and there are interior lights coming through the windows.”

“In between takes, I look, and Springsteen comes walking into the studio. So I go, ‘Oh, f*ck. What the f*ck is he doing here?’ I’m thinkin he’s probably coming out to a meeting with Meiert to talk about either what’s he going to be doing in the future, or look at some video Meiert made for him. So I just keep my eye here on the camera, thinking I’ll just stay with the camera and he’ll leave eventually. I won’t to have to deal with this guy. I’m not going to talk to him. So we’re shooting another take and as we finished the take, I get tapped on the shoulder by Springsteen, and he goes, ‘Daniel, the circle becomes complete.’ He says, ‘You were right on how you wanted to light me. I was wrong. This [video you are on right now] is my song. We’re shooting here now, and this is the only way we could get you to do it. I want to apologize because you were right.’ And that turned out to be the video for ‘Human Touch’, which I think, is a great video in a lot of ways.”

Thanks for showing me the way to this thread REH. Looks like I have to set aside some reading time!

Cruyff14 has produced an opus worthy of The Boss himself :thumbsu:
