About his first game as forward coach.

I've just been looking through All I Can Be again. Every time I pick up that book, I'm impressed at how single-minded and driven Bucks was as a player. He'll be the same as a coach. And he has unfinished business. This is how he finished his book:

Although we didn't achieve the ultimate - a premiership - and there's a massive hole in my life as a result, I have no regrets. Our lack of success wasn't through a lack of effort or application on my behalf. Over the years I turned a number of weaknesses into strengths, and I've gained enormous satisfaction and comfort knowing I did everything to be all I could be.

Now he'll have a chance to realise that premiership dream in another way. Best of luck to him for the season.:thumbsu:

All I Can Be is a great book, Buckley really bares his soul to the world, and it takes a huge amount of bravery to do that. I have to say after reading it I was filled with disappointment all over again that we never won that premiership during his captaincy, if any player on our list has deserved it, it is him. I can only hope his intensity and esire for that ultimate success rubs off on our current playing group.

Yes, it's a theme that runs through the book like an exposed nerve-end. If he can just transfer that desperation to the players, the universe will unfold as it should.

I reckon he would be getting very very toey this afternoon and he will not sleep very well at all tonight........

And what about the rest of us? I am on the edge of my seat already and lost half my finger nails........The game hasnt even started yet

You and Bucks can sit up all night and chat with Dave in the Granny Naps thread.:p

I'm actually of a little different opinion.

I think Bucks won't be able to sleep tonight, but it won't be nerves, it will be pure excitement.

For, after missing 2 seasons of "real" football involvement, he is back and part of the action again, and I can't believe Bucks being anything less then excited about what approaches tomorrow.

One things for sure, he has already implanted his "mark" on the forward line, if the pre season was any indicator, as we seemed to have more players with multiple goals then I have ever seen with this current group, and most probably under MM.

I don't think sides will be able to figure Bucks out really, he will be seen as an innovator in football coaching in years to come, and tomorrow we get our first glimpse at our "new" forward make up.

Make no mistakes about it, MM made Nathan Buckley forward coach for one reason, and that is that the forward line is the one area where we can improve enough to match the top 2 sides.

Bring it on, Bucks is back, and it's official as of tomorrow.:thumbsu::D:D:D

Bucks being forward coach makes no sense at all. makes as much sense as MM team selection for round 1 which has cost us the game already

Our forward line is what needed the most work coming into 2010, I think Buckleys a great choice. He has a great footy brain and if anyone can work out a way to get it functioning again it's him. Just because Buckley played midfield doesn't mean he should be a lock to coach the midfielders, the experience of coaching forwards will do him good in 2 years time when he's in charge of the whole shebang as well.

what on earth are you talking about? care to explain. i see no issues with our selected side. Beams is in our best 22, but is obviously out due to his indiscretion.

MM loves Johnson and we had to expect that he would play. Also he always kicks akers ass

So, let me get this straight, you want a player who played 250+ games as a midfielder to coach the midfield, well yeah, on face value that makes sense, but not in the world of developing Nathan Buckley to be a senior coach.

Bucks has to learn all aspects of the team, next year my guess is he will be the defensive coach, and then obviously in 2012 he will be the senior coach.

And as I said, if there's one area we can really improve in, it's our forward line, so to pt it simply, I CAN'T SEE A BETTER POSITION FOR NATHAN BUCKLEY IN 2010 THEN AS OUR FORWARD COACH.:thumbsu:

And as for MM's selection costing us the game, how the **** can you say that, you could make a valid point and actually explain yourself, but by making an utterly absurd comment like that, you have just made your statement invalid.

I guess if you cannot make any sense of the decision to make Bucks a forward coach for a year and even less sense of Micks teams selection, which may I point out are made with consideration to many things and discussion with the many others involved, then I guess you will not be able to make much sense of anything until Mick is gone................
