Given the good news of my buddy signing on for 3 more years today I thought it was a good time to see what our buddies have been up to in the pre-season and what they need to be doing to continue their improvement in season 2007.

My buddy has had a pretty good season - played well in the derby and was one of the best against the roos, and from all reports was very impressive against the crows.

Obviously this is the season for Sandi to take it to the next level - his improvement has been very progressive since his debut and he's now at a point where he can challenge as one of the best ruckmen (and players) in the league. Sandi needs to dominate against the teams with lesser ruckmen and provide our midfield and forwards with a clear advantage. If he can start to hold onto his marks in contested situations he will be unstoppable as a forward and will be a go to man if we get in trouble. He has the potential to become one of our most important players (if not the most important) and will go a long way towards delivering us a premiership if he can achieve it this season.

my buddy has been a little disappointing so far this preseason. Hasn't really taken the next step forward.

I hope he holds his place, but expect him to either move positions or drop to the WAFL so Kiwi can get a game.

Then he will get angry, kick 6+ goals a game in the WAFL and come back a better player for it!

My buddy is Des Headland. Yes, the much maligned Des Headland.

My expectations are that he will narrow the gap between his best performances and his worst performances, without reducing the levels that his best performances get to. I expect him to respond top having a potent forward line by kicking long and accurately to them from the half back line, wing and half forward.

Solly.

Hoping for a solid year by him. Nothing too flashy, but enough to get the job done.

Mundy

I believe he can continue his improvement this year and really become a focal point in the backline and help the team rebound the ball quickly and give the forwards the best oppurtunity.

Expect him to really take a big step forward.

James Walker. i exect him to have a shaun mcmanus-esk rennaisance, learning to break lines with his unmatched pace and lose his 'soft' tag. i predict that he will play the 9 games he needs to get life membership at the club. thats the gospel according to grandson.

not getting injured would be considered a successfull year for andrew browne

i expect him to take over the role shaun mcmanus has played so well over the years

Pav - what can you say? How much better can he get? How much more can we expect of him?

Pav will be Pav, and we will all be in awe of the Great Man. :)

My buddy Jeffrey

Will be chomping/champing at the bit come Round 7! May be Round 8 or 9 before he comes back in (depending how our forward set-up is working). He'll have plenty of fresh legs for his two thirds of the season and the finals series. Probably prolonged his Freo career by another season.

But he's still a very naughty boy!

My mate Doddy will probably get a tagging role in round one with Old Carr out. Dodd v S Burgoyne? Will be disappointed if Dodd doesn't play all 22 games + finals.

Sheehan in the herald sun has Sandi at number 14 in the top 50 article and climbing. Pav at 5.

I just want to see Tarrant play an injury free season and if he does so, as expected considering he's back at full training, he can maybe get back to his All-Australian form! Imagine two star All-Aus's running amok in our forward line?

:)

Schammer
Just like to see him ready to go before the mid season break(so get match fit in wafl) and busting for a spot. Will put more pressure on the others to keep their spot which could only be positive.

Ryan Crowley - am sure he will continue to improve and hope he continues to upset the opposition without being reported

My buddy Longmuir will, after maintaining some semblance of fitness for the first time in many years, remind us all why he is regarded as one of the best in the game.

Well i hope CC can get rolling in the WAFL, has had a short pre season due to OP...Would love to see him get a chance/crack as replacement for The Wiz but that is a little optimistic given his limited Pre Season...

A full year learning from The Wiz and bulking up, 2008 Rising Star...
