I am Building a PC and just want to get a bit of a feeler if anyone has any experiance with my components.

Motherboard
Asus P6T delux version2
CPU
Intel i7 930
Hard Drive
Western Digital 2tb Caviar Green
Graphics Card
Gigabyte GeForce GTX470
RAM
*Aiming for 12gb DDR3
TV Tuner
Hauppauge HVR2200 dual hybrid

wow i came here to make a thread because i am planning on building my first pc myself too, in that case ill post my questions here as well. (apologies for hijacking your thread)

Your set looks good but I dont understand why you need 12 GB of ddr3? its awfully expensive and I have found even under the most intensive games i play i will only use about 3 gigs. Surely 6gb will be overkill alone and you will probably save $200-$400 depending on quality of RAM.

Anyway this is what i plan on using for my build:

Mobo: m4a79xtd-evo
Ram: 4gb ddr3 1600 mhz g-skill ripjaws
HD: WD 1.5T
GPU: ATI Gigabyte 5870
CPU: AMD x4 965
Case: Antec 902 (sexy)
PSU: Antec Earthwatts 650 Watts

is there any incompatibilities?
how do i setup the BIOS shit on the first boot? is it even necessary?
is it just like a normal setup in regards to installing the 64bit OS from the CD?

Sounds awesome though not sure if 12g of ram is needed

Let me know how it works out & how much it cost as i'm thinking of another upgrade.

Must be 32bit as any more ram above 4g is wasted.

What's your budget?

Monitor? K+M?

I would look at the Samsung F3 for your HDD. Or make sure you get a Caviar Black if going for WD. Black are the faster drives, but most floating around will be Green, and are toned down

no need for monitor and K+M, got those. Budget ~$1500.

Hmm I am buying off msy/pcdiy and they dont list any specifics on their parts prices list, just the brand and various storage sizes followed by their respective prices. All i know is their prices is pretty much the best and most competitive in melbourne.

btw is this what you are talking about?

its 500gb, dont think the store has any in 1tb + versions.

All looks good there, might want to go ATI over the Geforce, but that’s just personal opinion, I would also go AMD over Intel but once again that’s because it is cheaper.

For example the PC I have quoted below will beat yours but should cost roughly half as much.

12 gigs of ram is overkill, I would go for 8gig Max, but even that is overkill, unless you are heavily into encoding.

All that looks good, might want to get more than 650watt if you plan to add more hdd's/ or graphic cards but other than that it’s good.

I have basically the same except I have an ATI 4890 and I run every game on full spec @ 1920x1080 8xAA, etc.

64 bit will install from CD as per normal, BIOS will be set up, Windows 7 will install all drivers for you, everything is basically plug and play.

The only other major thing to remember (that alot of people forget) is make sure you put stands between your motherboard and your case or it will short.

That link looks like the one he was talking about, the Blacks are the best version, you should be able to get it from MSY, when you go in just ask from the black and not the green, I did that in WA and got one.

I reckon MSY is the cheapest.

If you want a really quick HDD get a Solid State Drive, there not cheap (64GB -$ 179, 128GB - 319 from MSY) but they boot up almost instantly.

cheers mate, i decided to get the 1tb samsung F3 spinpoint.

Who knew, I'm planning on getting all my parts after exams (next Sat.)

CPU: AMD AM3 Phenom II X4 955BE
Motherboard: Asus M4A87TD-USB3
RAM: G.Skill-NT 4GB DDR3-1333
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB ($111)
GPU: 1GB ATI Radeon HD5850 ($391)
Case: Lian Li Lancool PC-K58
PSU: Seasonic M12-II Bronze 520W
ODD: Samsung DVD Burner
CPU HSF: Coolermaster Universal Hyper TX3
Monitor: 23" LG W2343T-PF
Speakers: Logitech X230 2.1

bold = already bought.

total budget should be around 1.4k

Hopefully MSY at Port Adelaide will have the parts I want. Their new order website that shows the stocks seems like a gem... not sure when I should place my order though.
