Bumping into players

One time I was walking through the shops a few years back and saw Clive Waterhouse and then Docker Kingsley Hunter thoroughly perusing a Manpower calendar outside the newsagent. I found it highly amusing.

i met Gardy once, he's a sweetie and this one time i saw the Croadster in Sportgirl trying on this gorgeous black mini skirt, it really suited him

Oh and I used to see Gary Dhurkhay down the Newport Hotel in Freo.....the night before a game. And one time I saw Andrew Wills at the Zanzibar in Freo just after it opened, standing in the corner by the Men's toilet looking very bored and not drinking. But then again if I wasnt drinking at that joint id be very bored too, dont know if id hang out by the toilets though. Well maybe the ladies :)

Well I live in the Northern Suburbs of Perth and I used to see Woosha in his pharmacy at the Joondalup Shopping Centre. That was when he was still playing.

That refreshes my memory again actually. I used to serve Winston Abraham on occasion when I used to work at a pizza shop in Freo, I think he ate far too much pizza for a footballer during the regular season, not that im a dietician or anything but yeah. Maybe thats why he played so much better at North, couldnt find a decent local pizza joint.

I think i have the biggest claim to fame on this one... A year back i was in northbridge with a female friend of mine, and she got hit on (unsuccessfully) by Karl Langdon- he gave her some dumbass line about 'i suppose you know who i am..'
I have to admit it surprised me. Eagles fan though i am, i was of always of the impression that Karl swung the other way, if ya know what i mean :)

When i was at the Subiaco Pavillion Markets once i saw 5 dockers having something to eat from one of the asian parts of the markets. There was Peter Bell, Shaun McManus, Adam McPhee, Adrian Fletcher and Luke Toia.

I also saw a couple of eagles once, once was when Peter Matera was in Albany, I ran into him downtown(i had had a coaching clinic from him that day too) and I also Ran into Woosha somewhere in Perth once, can't remember where though.

David Haynes

Saw the emerging superstar out in Melbourne on Sunday night. He was at a bar in Ascot Vale, interesting to note that Jason Johnson was there two. (Both are very big boys).

He was having a quiet beer with some very attractive young lady friends and I presume enjoying the obscurity of going out in Melbourne. He wasn't acting up, had a very quiet time and left the pub at a reasonable hour (which is more than I can say for his Bomber couter-part).

I did literally bump in Chris Lewis in Subiaco back in 1993. I was not looking and was too busy perving on a sweet little lady in a black mini and did not see where I was going. I did smack straight into the champion and fell over embarassing myself in front of this babe.

Lewis reached down, pulled me to my feet and asked if I was ok. I was spinning out looking at this man whom I worshipped on the footy field. Lewie was a true gentleman to me and his mannerisms were beautiful. I wished I got his autograph or something as a momento for that moment.

Karl Langdon was another I met at the Thornie football club back in 1994, but I did not hold him high as I did Lewie and spoke to him as another normal guy. My 3 yr son had a kick with him and kept yelling at Karl "GO EAGLES" Karl autographed his WCE jumper and allowed me to take a pic of Karl holding my son and the footy they kicked....

I've seen so many footy players its not funny. Here in melbourne, there are certain streets where you are usually likely to see at least one footy player.

Also, when i was in grade six, the Bulldogs ran a program where they visited the local schools. I met Kretiuk, Grant, and a lot of others I can't seem to remember. I also got to press the siren button at Whitten Oval, watched the bullies train and participated in training clinics, and they even gave us free admission to a Bulldogs v Essendon match at the MCG.

Haven't met any WCE players, not in person at least. I chatted with Glen Jakovich and Bluey McKenna on the AFL chat thingy (which no longer exists!). Quite interesting some of the stuff that they said, particularly McKenna. Everything Bluey said that day has so far come true, including Milli's rate of decline, eagles poor performances (which he predicted!). He also predicted the eagles would be genuine finals contenders in about 2003-4. Ohhh, and this chat happened in early 2000

Played a season of cricket with Spider Burton when he was with the Eagles back around 93-94. Kempy and Tony Godden came and watched. Had a bowl at Kemp in the nets and got him out!Went to an after match do in 2000 when I was in Melbourne after we wallopped the Roos first round that year and had a bit of a chat with Phil Read and some of the heirarchy. A mate of mine works at the Eagles (he never gives up any juicy details though). He's on the bench on match days at Subi monitoring matchups. Appart from seeing the odd one out every so often in the streets or in clubs taking drugs, that's about it.

cant say ive had the honour of "personally" meeting any players, but i did see Michael Gardiner in Hay St a while back...and also Darren Glass in West Perth the other day,

I literally bumped into Bluey McKenna in Carillion Arcade in the city going into the optomotrist (sp?). I didn't know that it was him until later when my dad told me confirming the fact that I needed contacts! :D

I've seen Michael Gardiner on Murray Street a few times.
He always seems to be with Tim Gepp

Neil Marshall obviously works on Hay St, because I see him at least twice a week.

But the ultimate was seeing Dean Buszan a few weeks ago. Almost wet my pants.

Oh and for a two week period, just after Christmas, I saw Stephen O'Reily (Former Freo Fullback) in Subway nearly every day.
He tried to cut in front of me one day, so naturally I had to lay down the smack. He may have wrestled Tony Lockett while playing footy, but he didn't know what hit him when I had a go. Had him crying like a baby. ;)

About two years ago the drycleaner who services our building ran a promotion where you could have your drycleaning delivered by Guy McKenna. Bizarre, but what the hell

So one morning I stagger into the lift clutching the morning coffee and lo and behold, there's Bluey, standing with the little drycleaning guy who was grinning like he'd won the lottery

When I was in Year 12 in 1996 I saw David Hart and his then fiancee talking to eachother. David picked her up for the night and they were heading to the footy because W/C were playing!

Watters and Mainy

My wife sat next to Scott Watters in science calss at All Saints. She said he was always up to something.

Saw Mainy at Abbey Beach Resort in late 1999 after his retirement. He was compereing (?) a fancy dress breakfast for PMFM or 94.5 or some FM Pop station. He autographed a friend of mine's ten year anniversary of the Eagles book, much to my friend's delight. I happened to borrow it and had brought it on my holiday with me. Being a new Eagles supporter, I wanted to know more of the clubs history.
