ALLEN Christensen has had a start to his AFL career to test a young man's patience. He has begun four of his five games as Geelong's substitute, yet caught the eye enough that the Cats' Shop might consider a run of green vests with No. 28 on the back.

''It's hard not to say it's different,'' Christensen said this week, a ready smile lighting up his fresh face, betraying what he hastens to add - he'll happily start there every week so long as he's in the team. Yet it is an extra challenge, especially for an AFL novice, one footballers haven't known since the long-gone days of the 19th and 20th man.

Interesting article. Loved this bit:
''All Geelong supporters should be really excited about the future,'' he says, confident but not cocky. ''We as a group, as an academy, we're all going to come through together and hopefully keep this club up for a long time. We are the future, there's no hiding that.''

I love that last quote. There is no doubt that the club builds a culture around grouping the players that come through together. That must go a long way towards player retention.

Aside from that, I really like how he plays, looks a long term player IMO

When asked how he approaches the task of coming on to the field, later in the game, as the sub, he says he always tries to "liven it up".

Onya, Bundy.

I had my doubts about AC last year. I was worried he'd be another Ryan Gamble or Nathan Djerrkura: flashes of good form and a few brilliant moments but no guts. This was based on watching the VFL where he'd have an excellent quarter or half, but kind of drift in and out of games.

I am very happy to see the way he's playing now though. He's giving us some pace and grunt in the midfield, and there's not a lot wrong with his disposal. He puts his head over the footy and is smart enough to play the "designated sub" role Chris Scott has him pencilled in for perfectly, right from his debut. The goal from 50 that he kicked against the Pies last week was magnificent. Good on him. He's got a long future ahead of him as a Cat.

Absolute gun really composed and knows what to do when he gets it. Pardon my ignorance but why is his nickname Bundy? :p

.....and played pretty well tonight given a full game. Impressed more than a few people.

And he will only get better.

Still haven't figured out why this guy isn't getting more credit and game time - continues to find the hard ball and was a critical factor towards the end.

Gee we are unearthing some youngsters this year. Between T Hunt, Dunzel and this kid, I like the look of the future.

Had a pretty good game tonight I thought, he has a real crack and disposal was pretty clean. The pick up and give to Varcoe was top class.

Going to be one of the steals of the draft. Glad my man love has started to rub off onto everyone else. He looked fantastic for us last night. Star.

Well you made the call on him a long time ago Rizzo, well done. Great spotting.

I had not really seen what people were carrying on about until last night.
Seems to know where to run and he always goes when it is his turn.

Once he gets the confidence up his decision making will improve and he'll provide crucial moments in matches.

A bit too keen to hand off a short handball at the moment to players under a bit of pressure. That will improve.
