Burning backup copies of CD's/DVD's you have purchased is totally legal, even if software companies make it damn hard to do. I used to run off backups all the time in case they got scratched.

Now I use Virtual CD, create an image and use it. It's faster, easier and no chance of the CD getting kackered though you do need disk space :D

Yes, but blank DVD's are like $30odd so what is the point of burning them?

Burnt CD's won't work on the playstation unless you get a chip in (duh  ). But the PS2 has been designed in such a way that installing a chip will disable the DVD player, so effectively you lose the option of playing DVD's on it. You can only install a chip safely onto the japanese version of the PS2.

So you're left with having to buy originals :(

Please tell me how its done i really want to know

>Where can you get a chip for a PS2 In Australia-Melbourne
>Do you need a special type of Burner (if so what)
>DO you need a special CD

Thanks

From what i have read about ps2 chips, you can buy one that is external to the machine i.e. it plugs into the USB port at the front so the actual console will still have full functionality, and you can't void your warranty on the machine.

Check the trading post, they advertise both sales and installations of the chip.

Only if its a DVD-cd game. Its about 50-50, that is half are DVD's and half are CDR's. If its a DVD game then you'll need a DVD burner and a DVD CD.

The games have an increasingly hard to break copyright "patch" on them, so burning a game does not necessarily mean it will work. There is software you can get to get past it, but I can't remember their names at the moment. If i get around to it I'll look up the names for ya sometime soon if you like.

so how do you know if its a dvd game?

Yeah that would be great i get the trading post often enough but i would like a PAL chip

At the back of the original CD case there is a little icon which either displays "DVD" or "DISK". Thats how ya know.

I remembered the burning program lots of people recommend, its called "Clone CD". Unfortunately it is supported by small number of burners, mainly the major brands. I'll see if I remember the software that overrides the copyrights and protections, i'll probably post that up tomorrow though.

Yeah, thats a CDR, you can burn those. If you don't know if its a DVD or not, just chuck it into your computer and see if your burning program detects it. If it does, then its not a DVD. If you are going to burn PS2 games, make sure you do it at a low speed, preferably at 2x as faster speeds will write the media files too fast, which will result in the game and music skipping.

Sorry about the late reply, I've been working 10hrs a day for the last few days and have had limited access to the computer.
