I've been pretty much on the fence with Butcher. My view on whether he should stay or go can change from week to week. But seeing him yesterday, how despondent he looked after those early shanks, and riding that emotional wave with him as he took that amazing grab in the 2nd and lined up before kicking the goal, how can you not love the guy? I had little tears in my eyes as I watched the crowd go up as one, the relief sweep across Johnny's face, and his teammates come from everywhere to rally around him. How can you not love the guy?
He's so "human" it's ridiculous. He's not perfect and he doesn't pretend to be. He knows his flaws and he just gets on with it and lives with them as best he can. Viva la John Butcher. It will not kill us to give him another contract. Do it.

Westhoff's form on a wing has been underrated for the last 12 weeks. With him settling into that role after a bumpy first half of the season it's even more reason to play 3 key forwards (including him) now.

Butchers game on the weekend despite the shank had more impact than I would expect out of Shaw, Redden, or Harvey (time on his side). The other talks are still not ready, for that reason he's probably some form of insurance.
[this wasn't the case earlier in the year, his time down back has helped him as a player]

You can legally set the ball on the ground and take a spot kick when lining up for goal in AFL can't you?

Could work for him.

The old place kick may be legal, but only Buddy would get away with taking the typical sort of arc-ed run up to kick them. A rule would have to change to allow a run up "arc" for a place kick specifically. The time taken to setup the ball on a little pile of sand might draw Gillon's ire as well.

You watch him take a set shot for goal and by the time he's launched the ball he looks like Michael Flatley having a seizure. It's like he's either trying to remember 8 million things at once or just getting it over with before anyone notices he's kicking the ball. In the field he just laces out what looks like an old Darrell Cahill stab pass.
I don't mean to sound rude but I think Butch needs a psychologist more than a kicking coach. Some positive visualisation could help.
If only we could send someone from bigfooty back in time to silence the person who first called him "The Future."
"Hey John you're 'The Fu.." Slap.
"Don't say it!"

Most emotion you'll get out of Casual Ken (well apart from the RIGHT ANGLES showdown final siren)
After he and the team came off their medication after the WB loss, Casual Ken started to show his true passion again in the box, and the team followed suit on field, led by Hartlett and Jonas.

Let it be a lesson for Ken and the players to never try to tone down their excitement, anger, pleasure or disgust for the sake of looking calm and composed.
