I thought Butch played reasonably well today... Well enough to play against the Hawks, maybe not... but may be recalled for the game in Alice?
10dis and 8marks for 3.3... is a good return for a forward.

I'm not big on the idea of having a forward who can not reward his midfield and team mates with finishing off with a goal.

The consequences and affect is far greater at AFL level.

Sorry Butch but a bit more work needed. I hope he gets there.

Lance Franklin kicked 7 points in a row before kicking a goal against Hawthorn. I'm not saying Butcher is Buddy but you can absolutely still have an impact while developing your kicking at a whole swag of great key forwards (including the great Warren Gary Tredrea) had big issues with conversion in the early stages of their career.

Before today Butcher had kicked 15.4 at SANFL level in 2014.

Yeah a few, but i'm just as happy seeing Butch take marks on the lead given leading wasn't his strength early on. He marked pretty well.
Need to change your avatar. We don't play at footy park.

And I'm a bit shocked he had the 8 marks because it really hasn't been his strong point for quite some time.

Wouldn't bring him in yet though. He needs to demand a spot. He should be kicking 4+ each week in the sanfl. Walker kicked goals returning from 12 months out in the sanfl so can't be too hard for a talented player to get a goal in the seconds.

I want him in our first team, I really do, but he needs to force his selection and be dominating in the 2nds.

Walker isn't really a fair comparison, he's an absolute gun. Averaging 3 goals a game is a pretty good effort at any level. KPF isn't a position like KPD or midfield where we have so many performing players that you can carve in the SANFL and not get near the side. We need another tall forward in the AFL side going forward IMO.

Yeah I agree, he is averaging 3 goals a game which is a good return... could be more given his kicking, but if he maintains the output in the AFL that is a great return.

True he is a gun but he just spent 12 months out of the game.

The maggies are killing teams so it should be even easier in our team to score goals than in the cows reserves. I want to see dominating performances before reward.

We are scoring plenty of goals in the afl so butch needs to push his own case to get a chance. Who would we drop for him? I can't pick one.

Yeah dunno who we would drop to bring the Butch in, but I do wonder is a coincidence that in Rnd 1-3 when Butch was in the side Westhoff was playing great footy, and since the Butch has been gone he has been down a bit (Apart from the brassy game hasn't kicked a goal since). Bringing Butch in also allows the Hoff to do as he wants which is the way he needs to play. So add a cpl goals from Butch and a cpl goals and saved goals from the Hoff is a nice turn around... But yeah who do we drop?

..... He marked pretty well.
Late in the game he looked like an AFL full-forward, marking well and kicking well. But as in every game since he was dropped back it was only in the second half, when coincidentally or not the Maggies were beginning to run over their oppositions.
In the first half as in all recent games he would not have held a spot in the Maggies firsts pre-1997. He is not anywhere near ready for an AFL recall.

Agreed, Butch is in my opinion miles off an AFL recall, there was no improvement in his set shot kicking at all today, and as I said in the match thread the two he kicked from set shots were end over end floaters, the third was a gimme handball Bruggeman gave him from just outside the goal square.

He definitely worked harder in the 2nd half, but he has done that in all 4 Alberton games, and you do have to wonder if he lifts only because he gets a bake from the coach at half time.

The stats probably aren't available, but I will be very surprised if any more than about 30% of his goals are from strong leads ( marks ) and kicks, ( most full forwards bread and butter ), he gets a lot of his goals at SANFL level from scraps, or from handballs set up by others.

Yeah he had 10 kicks and 8 marks all of which were 20 metres out from goal! Shudda kicked at least 5 at least!!

Not sure of the stats. He led better today than previous games and took a few more contested marks.
But I agree...miles off. His kicking alone was terrible.
I've copped a bake on the "changes .." thread regarding Butcher so I'll stay out of this one.

Some of those grabs in the second half were really nice contested marks
That's true, they were of the quality required. Mind you with that game there shouldn't be as much claim/counter-claim as usual because at least here in SA it was on TV for those that couldn't get there.

Some second half marks were excellent but he struggles to impact when the heat is on the game and in the afl that can be for the entire game

Wingard could be criticised for being a second half specialist this year too. 15/18 goals by my reckoning have come after halftime. Difference I guess is that Wingard's third and last quarter goals have often broken the opposition's resistance and broken the game open for us.

Butch could have had a couple of goals at least up until half time if he kicked straight. His second quarter was very reasonable, bar his kicking, provided options and worked hard defensively. Led the game in tackles with 5. Would have led the game in contested marks as well. The only thing missing is accuracy by foot. In the best players, but should have been best on ground.

Agree but winning is in Wingards DNA. Not sure Butch is a winner but I'm tough on him because we need him to step up
