People seem to be forgetting how good Butcher has been when our team has been playing like absolute shit. The potential is very much there, we've all seen it. I'd love to give him to the end of 2015 to start showing it, give him a majority of this year in the SANFL to help his confidence, giving him games in the AFL where we can, and then push him into the starting 22 next season. We have the ability to invest more time on him currently and if it pays off, there's the potential to seat us comfortably in the top 2 with ease for the next few years. He has had a pretty bad run with injuries, he's still more than capable of becoming an absolute gun footballer.

its imperative to reduce the load on Lobbe with Westoff/Trengove (to increase their rucking times/duties) for the rest of the season

no ands ifs or buts

if we have serious designs on september (now October) managing Lobbe is of utmost critical importance

im with you where hoping he would play tonight, but now with the other injuries need to relieve lobbe to the point if games are won then lobbe is subbed out, just to make sure he don't get injured. Its also 2 defenders we have lost as well lucky we have a few spare but depletes the stocks

I doubt Butch is robust enough to take centre bouncedowns, but he may be ok as a pinch hitter at boundary throw ins.

You would think though that Jacko ( with support from Westy ) is a lock as Lobbe's back up.

However, as soon as he marks inside the 50 a massive cloud of C02 hovers over the ground.

Butcher will make it as a genuine AFL key forward.
He's getting regular game time under the right coaching structure in an AFL environment with the Magpies, which will do his confidence with his body untold good.
He's getting regular goals which will do his confidence with his game untold good.
He's playing for a club that seemingly has a very successful on field period coming up, which means he'll have to earn his way in, but is able to be given enough time and enough on field quality supply to do so.
